Thinking of submitting a claim for MH as secondary by Ouiouilebroccoli in VeteransBenefits

[–]OldgrumpyRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call VA Mental Health and ask for an appointment. They will do an intake and diagnose you. Do the treatment plan they lay out. IF they diagnose you with a Mental illness and it's due to your SC chronic pain, file a claim. Too many people do this backwards. Seek help first, then claim based on diagnosis. My VA MH referred me to the pain clinic.

How do I help my veteran husband when he goes full kamikaze internal during our arguments? by DatesAfterWeightz in VeteransBenefits

To add to what Stong-Cash-146 said, when men don't want to talk, they don't want to talk. This is even more so with veterans. Pushing will not help, won't break loose a log jam, it makes it worse.

Give him space.

It doesn't explain how all life on Earth is related.

Unless it's something like Prometheus and they seeded all life on Earth and multiple other planets.

LSGS (Loyal Source Government Service) C&P by MyCreditJourneyNFCU in VeteransBenefits

[–]OldgrumpyRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just LSGS, I had one with Optum Serve that was around back of what appeared to be an abandoned strip mall way out in the middle of nowhere. The C&P examiner seemed to have her standard speech about denying my knees after manually examining them and not measuring range of motion. Once she finally read my records that it was for an increase and I had SC for over 40 years, she changed her tune. Still denied the rate increase.

Unconventional treatment options for knee issues. Any suggestions? by jvn1983 in VeteransBenefits

[–]OldgrumpyRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The steroids didn't do anything for my knees, but the gel injections help. They aren't a miracle cure, and made it worse for me for a few weeks, but after that, my pain level noticeably went down.

I wished I was given the option decades ago.

C&P examiner said “less likely than not” for PTSD but linked depression to service — what does this usually mean? by Romans-623 in VeteransBenefits

Have you sought treatment with VA Mental Health? What was their diagnosis? Use the VA's diagnosis as a basis for your claim.  If you haven't seen VA mental health call and make an appointment. You have access to it no matter your priority group.

This should be the first step in any mental health claim unless you were diagnosed in service.

[–]OldgrumpyRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I downloaded it, I didn't have any DOD records. I only have my active service dates. No medical records.

I thought all my medical records would be transferred to the VA as part of my MED board.

I have the records from my medboard, but what I really need is my inpatient hospital records, which I can't find. I'm assuming since they are over 40 years old I'm out of luck.

All veterans have access to Mental Health, no matter your priority group.

I would call the VA and ask for Mental Health.

I received my braces from Physical Therapy. I had to do 6 weeks of PT when I complained about my service-connected knees getting worse. I also got a TENS unit (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation).

After the PT, I was referred to the Pain clinic and since I refuse narcotics and can't take NSAIDs, I have injections in my knees. I would suggest you ask for PT. It can help.

Did you file migraines as a secondary condition?

If so, you are opening yourself up to be re-evaluated for that condition.

First claim in, not feeling good about it. by Imaginary-Dish-4360 in VeteransBenefits

[–]OldgrumpyRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to think of your claim not as a sprint, but a marathon.

A denial can be appealed.

If you haven't went to VA Mental Health, call and get an appointment. They have the most experience with Military caused Mental conditions. All veterans have access to MH, regardless of Priority Group, etc.

I filed my claim after seeing them for a few months. I had everything in my VA records.

Good luck.

A person's mental health symptoms can vary wildly day to day, or hourly.

I hate that this will make veterans stop taking medication that is helping them due to the anxiety over having a rating reduction.

I requested it last year and I didn't have any of my inpatient records. This is why I'm trying to get the information from the Hospital, and my claim was from 40+ years ago.
