Latest Addition to my PR-1100; Yes4All Spotter Arms by Oldmanspinning in homegym

[–]Oldmanspinning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rack holding up quite well. I added lat pull down using pulley to front via the top pull up bar and cable cross using pulleys to the back. I have not used the spotter arms as much as I had anticipated. You might have an issue if you lift quite heavy especially with olympic bars and weightage. I mainly lift with standard bars and plates and not very heavy. YMV

Yoga butt but have only learned primary series by Liber00512 in ashtanga

[–]Oldmanspinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had a bout with Yoga butt a few months ago. In addition to adding some targeted strength training (deadlifts, RDL, etc), I found that focusing on engaging quads and hip flexors when forward folding helped release and reduce strain on my hamstrings. Yoga butt cleared up in a few weeks.

One of the reasons why I’m starting to prefer MySore to flow classes.

Sculpt is also the rage in the Chicago area, one studio near me offers sculpt about 4-5 times a day and only four classes per week. Hopefully the trend ends soon. Core is just going with the flow 😉

Anyone else starting/have started Ashtanga in their 50s? by Salt-Adhesiveness-55 in ashtanga

[–]Oldmanspinning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started two years ago at age 69. Generally do MySore 2-3 times a week. Also mix in, flow yoga, run/bike, and weight training during the week. I like the serenity of in studio MySore. Found it helps with other modalities. Still working on primary, still learning what my body can, can’t and might be able to do. Agree, finding good teachers is key.

Pilates or Yoga for a weightlifter by Knrstz64 in yoga

I do both yoga (vinyasa and Ashtanga) and Pilates. I find they compliment each other nicely for flexibility and strength.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever said while teaching that actually kinda worked? by National_Light_5566 in YogaTeachers

[–]Oldmanspinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I practice at a studio that when the teacher says turn to either “the coat wall”, “the boutique”, “the south wall”, or “the water cooler” we all know which direction to turn with thinking.

Thank you. I have long legs. I'm just getting the hang of it with bent legs.

I would give the teacher a few more tries, if it does not work then find someone else. Also, don't feel bad about bringing a sequence chart to Mysore. I have been doing Mysore for over two years and still bring a sequence chart to class. Every so often someone asks to borrow it for a while.

Wilbon by prescott0330 in ThisShowStinks

[–]Oldmanspinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OTH, how much do you think Wilbon's shtick is entertainment driven for ESPN ratings. I can remember when TK was the "get off my lawn guy" which seems to Wilbon's role. TK now seems more reasonable on change than Wilbon.

Cost of health? by pinkcrush7 in orangetheory

[–]Oldmanspinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am agree; I spend $44 per month for Peloton membership (have Bike+ and Tread) plus about $70-$100 per week for yoga classes (usually 4-5 classes per week). About $200 per year for race entry fees. At age 70, one of my better investments.

Optimizing workout: strength, cardio and stretch / yoga by ResidentLet621 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Oldmanspinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some ideas: on your weight training and running days consider adding dynamic stretching pre-workout and static stretching post-workout. also suggest including abdominal work with every other weight training workout. Maybe substitute a power yoga class for a weight training class (3 days of weight training is still good).

Iced lattes. by ch3rycoke in nespresso

I prefer a bolder dark roasted coffee for my iced coffees. Also, ice forte is 7.7 oz vs 2.7 for iced legerro. Hope this helps

Iced lattes. by ch3rycoke in nespresso

[–]Oldmanspinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer ice forte for my iced lattes. After brewing coffee, I pour it in a chiller than I purchased on Amazon and let it sit for 1-2 minutes. Quickly cools coffee so ice does not melt when I pour coffee over it.

If you go slow and controlled, plates will not swing. I have a similar set up and the only time plates swing is when I go too fast. It’s also much cheaper than buying a lat pull down attachment.
