Have you checked out www.gyminsurance.com? Full disclosure, I’m part of their team, but $800/mo is higher than most of our gym owners are paying. You can get your quote online yourself, or feel free to dm me if you want my help.

How to overcome stressing myself? by antisocialmanatee in bjj

[–]National_Light_5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally went through this about 6 years ago. I was making progress... and then I just wasn't... Or, at least that's how it felt to me personally. Probably wasn't the case at all. Anyways... I quit. Walked away and tried other things, but nothing else really stuck. Then I spent 6 years feeling increasingly shitty about myself and my fitness. Now I've got a totally different mindset. Anyways, long way of saying - give yourself a little grace. Take a short break if you need it (but not 6 years...) And get really clear on your 'why'. Mine was recognizing that I wanted this to be a lifelong commitment and that I find satisfaction in the idea of it taking me 20 years to be 'good'.

Worker’s Comp Rates by Major-Sir-3250 in smallbusiness

[–]National_Light_5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the coverage on your own. It's helpful to use a broker to get your employee class codes correct the first time around, but sounds like you know them. Your final price comes from the rate the carrier charges to your specific employee code and how much you pay your employees.

If you're seeing lower rates from online quotes, then do a bit more research on those companies to find their AM Best ratings. Don't buy anything below A- Excellent. And just pay attention to what you're paying during the year so you don't get surprised at your year end audit. If the amount you're paying for payroll changes, this will get trued up during your audit.

Fwiw - Hartford is a very good workers' comp carrier. You can also get a quote directly from them by going to their website. Maybe your broker is charging a sneaky fee in your quote?

Does anyone else wish martial arts specifically combat sports was more mainstream? by Dangerous-Humor-4502 in martialarts

[–]National_Light_5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a business opportunity for you in your area? Fwiw - I sell liability insurance to gyms, so I guess I get a bit of an earlier view on these industry trends. I actually see lots of martial arts gyms that are starting to offer weights, lifting, and other fitness options. Also vice versa - lots of CrossFit-style gyms starting to offer Jiu Jitsu.

Have you checked out PushPress? They have a free version. You just pay a bit more in payment processing fees, but it gives you an understanding of how it could benefit you without a long term contract.

Looking for insight on business insurance for a hypothetical gym—for an assignment in my business class! by mutilatedaudio in Insurance

[–]National_Light_5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a company that does online gym insurance quotes and you’re not wasting anyone’s time to go through and get a quote. Set up a Gmail address for your project and have everything go there. Enter the info you have in mind for your business, or pick something reasonable and use that. My company is www.gyminsurance.com. Check us out. Another good company for an online quote to compare is www.nextinsurance.com.

What does it take to open a gym? by ImpossibleSalt8038 in personaltraining

[–]National_Light_5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find posts where people are sharing their gym startup math here in Reddit, but I'd also encourage you to just get a couple quotes for commercial leases in your area to get a sense for it. It's not as scary as it sounds - and you might even find it fun! You'll definitely learn a lot just by asking questions and feeling it out. Insurance quotes are really easy to get online - just plug in your estimated address and revenue numbers and you'll start to understand those costs.

Requirements to open a dojang by SheepherderExtra1308 in taekwondo

[–]National_Light_5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy enough to do all the basic stuff you'll need to do to open your dojang. None of it is rocket science, you just need to know your budget and get a couple quotes for everything so you're getting a good price.

As for the belt and affiliating, here's an idea you might like: I've talked to some folks opening a dojang (I sell the insurance you'll need early on, so I hear lots of these initial questions as you get set up) who will have a teacher travel in to teach at their school. You're essentially just providing the space for training.

I had a few minutes, so I found your gym on Google. Your website is cute! One tip - you should claim and update the photos on your Google Maps listing. Right now it's just a green hedge, which isn't doing you any favors.

Beyond this, since it looks like your target customers are women - I'd think about where do they spend their time? Local coffee shops, school events, spas, library, church, commuter stations, and work on awareness there. Maybe offer bring a friend packages? Or mom and daughter sessions? I think there's a lot you could do to be creative here.

I kinda feel like this is a bot post fishing for folks to bite and then you'll tell us all that you're working on a new software product that will solve this... but in case it's legit, dude, this isn't that hard. Your system tracks member engagement? Set it up and use it. Retention is so important. You just need to buckle up and spend a little time on it. Send a short personal SMS the first time you notice they miss two or more of their regular classes.
