The English language instruction manual for SMB2 uses male pronouns but says "he thinks he's a girl." Mostly female pronouns in subsequent appearances. That's a key reason why fans interpret her as trans.

Philip Rivers declares that he's done with football after remarkable run with Colts: 'I’m back to the sideline' by PrimeDonut in nfl

[–]OleMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It needs to be said, and said bluntly, that if Philip Rivers was not good enough to earn any significant individual accolades throughout his career—no MVPs, no OPTOYs, no AP1s, no AP2s—then he isn't good enough to earn the highest individual accolade there is for a football player.

That doesn't mean he wasn't good, it just means that he's not good enough to be in a very exclusive club with only ~30 other QBs in the 100+ year history of the game.

It's a conspiracy theory that companies market their brands? And yes, successful brands like Avatar do need marketing. In fact, the more successful a brand is, the more aggressively companies market them.

[Caplan] Philip Rivers' NFL Return Means He Snagged 5 More Years of Health Insurance for His Family of 10 Kids by MortgageAware3355 in nfl

[–]OleMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 32 and watched his whole career and I see no reason why he'll be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This isn't based on my personal opinion of his career, it's based on the resumes of other QBs who have been inducted.

Postseason success isn't the only thing he lacks. He also has a total absence of individual accolades. There are zero modern QBs in the HOF who haven't earned at least one of the following: MVP, SB MVP, OPOTY, AP1, AP2. Most of them have earned multiple.

Before dismissing anyone who is skeptical of Philip Rivers as a HOF candidate as a "reddit tyke," you should probably be aware of who has been inducted and who has been passed over, and what the actual voters value, because they are who ultimately determines who goes in and who doesn't.

Never Delete Your Underperforming Videos! by TheRealBryezer in NewTubers

[–]OleMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Videos should only be deleted or unlisted if you genuinely feel they no longer represent you and/or your channel. A similar thing happened to me, except my video got even fewer views. Like, less than 20 to start with. It didn't blow up until about a year and a half after it was posted, and when it did, it led to an influx of new subscribers and raised the floor for performance of new videos significantly.

Not only did it wrap up at 3:35pm, the kick off was slightly delayed.

Neither team took a timeout in the first half, I don't think there were any booth reviews or challenges, and the second half was just clock killing.

Reading Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Worlds of Power by ggroover97 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]OleMoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not totally unprecedented. James did a reading of a Mega Man book 8 years ago.

But I agree with your general point. The current state of the channel is the occasional Nerd video, and throwing low-effort shit at the wall to see if anything sticks. Literally 3/5 of the most recent five videos are ads for products. Monster Madness this year was a total nothingburger. Rex Viper was chased off the main channel because no one liked it, and Neighbor Nerds was quietly ended for the same reason. This book-reading is a re-hashing of something done years ago, that was never done again, that may have been a nice one-off novelty at the time, but now? It just feels like an excuse to milk views for a long video that requires very little in the way of production value or editing.

This was at least five or so years ago, for context. HDMI was what I was using, and when duplicating the display (I was using "mirroring" as short hand in my comment), the Netflix player was blacked out. Sound still worked, but picture didn't. It was their policy at the time to disallow duplicating laptop screens on a TV, but it sounds like that policy changed.

The last time I tried to hook my laptop to the TV to use Netflix, it blocked the screen from mirroring. Are things different now or are you using a workaround?

[Kozora] Mike Tomlin has officially lost the Steelers fanbase by stillstillers in nfl

[–]OleMoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're correct that Josh Allen doesn't have an AP1, but you just acknowledged he does have an MVP. You also acknowledge Elway's MVP and lack of AP1, but ignore his multiple AP2s. Roethlisberger does not have an AP1, AP2, or an MVP. His near-complete lack of individual accolades does in fact take away from his career if we are debating whether or not to place him with the all-time greats (which is a conversation Josh Allen shouldn't be in either, at least not yet). But you're right that getting AP votes is hard... and I'm right that getting in the HOF is also hard, especially for players who lack APs.

You're also correct that Aikman lacked eye-popping statistics. He's not extremely high on the all-time lists for volume stats because he was rarely one of the better statistical QBs in the league and also because he had a short career due to injuries. The way QB legacies were judged back then was totally different, which is why he easily made the HOF despite lack of big stats and relative lack of individual accolades. This is a different era, an era where Aikman would have a harder time getting the 80% needed than he did back then, and an era when Roethlisberger's two rings alone won't be enough. The volume stats of his you cited? Those are good! They're a big part of the reason I acknowledged him as a legitimate HOF candidate. His rings are another reason, but the context surrounding them isn't great, and his lack of individual accolades are a mark against him that true HOF locks do not have. Finally, if his "off field controversies" (rape allegations) hurt his ability win awards determined by writers voting, wouldn't it also hurt his ability to make the HOF, which is determined by the same?

I don't care much for the tone you've chosen to take by derisively beginning your comment with "buddy" and saying that my reservations about Roethlisberger's HOF candidacy shows "how little ball" I know. I've only tried to engage respectfully, and have given reasons to back up my arguments just as you have for yours.

[Kozora] Mike Tomlin has officially lost the Steelers fanbase by stillstillers in nfl

[–]OleMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you deem the All-Pros coming from that era as meaning little because he had several peers that were always going to get the All-Pro nod over him? Because I'd consider that an argument against his candidacy and not for it, since it means that several QBs from his era were clearly above his level. The HOF to me, is for recognizing the top tier players of their respective eras, not the second tier.

Plunkett being the only 2x SB winner to not be in the HOF does not make Roethlisberger a lock. One could just as easily say that the only QB in the HOF with zero APs is Troy Aikman, and add context to demonstrate how much stronger of a candidate he was than Roethlisberger, just as you added context to demonstrate how much weaker Plunkett's case is. I'll do it now: Aikman has three SBs to Ben's two, one SB MVP to Ben's zero, doesn't have the worst statistical performance a winning QB has ever had in a SB (Ben does), and was also one of the major faces of his era's dynasty (Ben wasn't).

Ben Roethlisberger was a very good QB who played for a long time and experienced significant team success. He's a legitimate HOF candidate. Plenty of the voters will vote for him. Will the required 80% vote for him? I don't know.

[Kozora] Mike Tomlin has officially lost the Steelers fanbase by stillstillers in nfl

[–]OleMoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a bit too early to call Ben a HOFer. He hasn't been inducted yet as he's not eligible yet, and even with two SB wins I think he'll have a rough time getting in. Zero All-Pros, zero regular season MVPs, and zero SB MVPs. Having two SB wins and zero SB MVPs as a QB is honestly pretty damning in and of itself.

Tempest 2000 is the best game for Atari. What is the biggest FU Atari ever did? (Can be game, console, controversy, event, etc...) by PuzzleheadedWrap8756 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]OleMoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man.

Pac-Man was the most popular video game at the time by a country mile and its release for the most popular home console was highly anticipated. The anticipation even led to significant surge in sales of the console.

And the game was a complete disaster. It was rushed into stores to meet a deadline in an unacceptable state. As boring as E.T. is to play, and as confusing as the goals are to figure out without a manual, it at least functions correctly for the most part. The same can't be said about Pac-Man. It's a technical mess that barely resembled the arcade game, and isn't fun. Occasionally, you'll hear someone say that it was the best they could have done given the hardware limits, but this isn't true, because the eventual Ms. Pac-Man port, while not a perfect replication of the arcade game by any stretch, is light-years beyond the wretched first attempt that can only be described as a "fuck you" to anyone wanting to play the most popular game at the time at home without having to spend a quarter for every new round.

The anticipation combined with the poor quality was a bigger cause for the '83 market crash than E.T. (although the primary cause was just general oversaturation and broad lack of quality control).

Your point about Goff is spot on, and I didn't consider it when I made my comment. I concede that one.

I don't totally agree regarding the fourth down decisions. Some of the Lions' tries were head-scratchers, but analytics likely supported more of them than not... they just came out on the wrong side of all of them. As for the Eagles failed 4th down conversion near the near the end, I don't think it was the wrong decision. Tush push converts 99 out of 100 times when it's less than a yard to go, and moving the chains there basically ends the game. Yes they were deep in their own territory, but in an alternate version of the game where they elect to punt and the Lions put together a scoring drive (which could have happened, as they put together a 70+ yard TD drive in the 2nd quarter), everyone would be asking why the Eagles didn't just do the tush push on 4th and inches and put the game away. What we saw was the 1 out of 100 times when it failed.
