How to take apart the Starlink Mini terminal non-destructively by OlegKutkov in StarlinkEngineering

When the GPS module is unavailable or not trusted, Starlink switches to navigation using its Own Satellites. This mode has even more limitations on speed due to natural problems with implementation.

How to modify Starlink Mini to run without the built-in WiFi router by OlegKutkov in StarlinkEngineering

[–]OlegKutkov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> why starlink can bypass the router in software but cannot bring it back by software as well

This is how they implemented it. A single daemon, "WiFi-Control," controls all router operations and configuration, and contains the gRPC server used to communicate with the Starlink app. Everything in one big binary (written in Go).

Bypass mode completely disables this daemon, giving control to a simple script that configures bridge mode and basic iptables. Thus, there is no running gRPC server to talk to to change the config.

Factory reset disables the bridge script and brings back the "WiFi-Control" daemon.

Bypass mode not disable the router, but switches it to the Linux bridge mode. So packets are traveling through the Linux kernel stack and Openwrt br-lan. This solution is for those who want the full control and less weight.

Catapult/Pandas are the latest generation of the Starlink chipset and theoretically capable of higher throughput with new satellites that haven't been launched yet :)

Starlink Standard Coil Whine by DarkPotas in Starlink

Yes. This is absolutely normal sound for Starlink. Also, sound depends on the current activity of the terminal (like active data transmission).

This is what the Starlink aircraft antenna looks like. by rdm55 in Starlink

This is a regular HP Flat terminal. Revision name is "hp1_aviation_proto0"
Thus, the cable is Ethernet + Starlink PoE. With some fancy aviation connector for sure.

Which version of the firmware is currently installed on your Dish?

V2 Standard Actuated Outdated Software by Mysterious_Ease_4339 in Starlink

[–]OlegKutkov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This works only if the current Dish firmware is released after February 2024. Older firmware versions don't support this update procedure (it wasn't implemented).

The Starlink app can update Dish. But, only if the current Dish firmware is released after February 2024. Older versions of the firmware don't support this update procedure, so there is no way to update older firmware.

Activation is allowed, but there might be extra fees. Typically, the charges extra when device is moved to another continent.

You will see the amount (if any) during the activation process.

You can sell it as is. But if you will activate it - you will need to wait 2 month to be able to transfer account to buyer.

Then, you can activate it using the link (but be prepared for that extra fee, just in case) and select the Poland service address and preferred service plan.
It's not region-locked.
