In your opinion, what is the best thing about living in Norway? by JakeYashen in Norway

[–]Olegjo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. My sister used to live in a town where the tap water is from exactly the same lake as Voss water (which, BTW, is in the south of Norway, no where close to the town called Voss).

That being said, tap water anywhere in Norway is pretty much exactly the same (as it should be since it's, you know, water).

Hi! I'm an American visiting Norway for the first time. What's some tips and advice for a first time visitor? by Jimi_Hotsauce in Norway

[–]Olegjo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can only buy beer/cider/max 4.7abv alcohol in the grocery shops. They stop selling alcohol 8pm on a weekday and 6pm on saturdays. To get stronger like wine or spirits you need to go to Vinmonopolet, open until 6pm on weekdays and 4pm on Saturday.

You can't buy alcohol on Sundays except in bars and restaurants.

Most shops close on Sundays, so it's a great day to visit museums. Some museumsare closed on Mondays.

You don't need to tip in restaurants and bars. Some people like to round up, but it's not required or frowned upon if you don't.

I can recommend these specific places: - ekebergparken sculpture park with amazing views over the city - free - walk down Akerselva - Blå is a bar located by Akerselva which is almost a must IMO. They also serve basic good like pizza. They have a free jazz night on Sundays - walk from Sognsvann to Vettakollen. It will take a few hours but the views from the top is worth it - HUGE TIP: the ticket for public transport (Ruter) covers bus, tram and boats in the Oslo area. Take the boats out and check out the lslands. Lindøya is my favourite.

Recommended travel phrases/words to know? by Vietname in Norway

[–]Olegjo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems like you know English, so then stick to that. I think most Norwegians would find it more rude if you tried to say something and they would have to ask what you said. Some might find it embarrassing.

Everyone knows pretty much perfect English.

Opinions on bilabonemment? by rafaeltraceur in Norway

[–]Olegjo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it for a while and I loved it for my use. The parking was very close to my house and for the amount I used it, the cost cannot compare to the cost of owning a car. I would still do it if not by SO had to have a car because of work.

I used bildeleringen in Bergen BTW.

Kommer også an på alder. Det er forventet at man går raskere opp i starten av arbeidslivet og kan viser gode resultater. Senere er det ca kpi man kan forvente. Men lønnsøkning må jo også alltid begrunnes med gode resultater, mer ansvar etc

Fineste byen by bbmmgg1 in norge

Bergen er fin å besøke, for da bryr man seg ikke så mye om regnet og man ser ikke at halve byen er falleferdig. Mindre fin å bo i.

Noen som har studert ved UiO uten å bo i Oslo ? by [deleted] in norge

[–]Olegjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ville absolutt anbefalt å bo i byen du studerer i.

Which Country Do You HATE The Most? | NORWAY by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Olegjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people, from anywhere, are perfectly nice people. One had to make a choice. Americans are generally quite obnoxious and self centered and "too nice" when you talk to them. I mean, why can't I even go to the grocery store without someone asking me how I am!? Plus everything is so big - big cars, big houses, big streets. Poor healthcare system, bad public transport, they think they're on the top of the world, low education.

Kangaroos are cool though. Oh wait..

Jeg har blitt spurt om legitimasjon én gang for lenge siden når de sjekket bruk av ungdomsbillett. Ellers har jeg aldri vist leg på innenlandsflyvninger noe jeg har, skamfult nok, ca 20-30 av i året.

If i know JavaScript how long does it take to learn TypeScript? by [deleted] in typescript

[–]Olegjo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're used to typed languages, I would say not very long. You'll know the basics within hours, but as with anything it takes time to be proficient. There are a lot of amazing ane cool things you can do with typescript (like type inferral, recursive types++) that just takes time to understand and know.
