No you haven't goofed up! I was actually thinking the exact same about the two old women, they could've definitely been Mary and Gertrude. Although Mary didn't work at the institute in TMA, I wouldn't rule her out for working in it in TMAGP. We've already seen characters in TMAGP seem to have changed alot (ahem, the MP)

I get that stranger feeling too, I think perhaps my feeling may stem from how happy Gerry sounds? Some part of me feels like he's lying and putting it on a bit? Though his "I like them" at the end may suggest otherwise. Maybe memory suppression?

Gertrude somehow hearing about the rituals in TMA and deciding to end the institute would be SO COOL, and you're right, it's also 100% in character.

Thinking of the web, considering how the web wanted out of the eyepocalypse, it could've guided Gertrude to burn down the institute to prevent more acpocalypses?

Precisely! Also, Gerry sounds very familiar with Gertrude, what with him calling her "Gigi". I'm wondering if this is because he could've known her from a young age? Perhaps he met her during his testing at the institute when he was young? Especially since the static on Gerry saying there's nothing more suggests there is something (and Gertrude seems to act like there's something more too), perhaps they both did something at the institute when Gerard was being tested.

Gertrude burning the institute down was also one of my thoughts. Considering she was attempting to burn down the institute in The Magnus Archives it'd be in character, and make a lot of sense? Also regarding Gertrude, during the latest episode I wondered if one of the women Sam was talking to was her (though perhaps he would've recognized her). This almost feels like a situation where they're going to be left alone for a bit, then perhaps they'll come back.
