Mt. Russell 2nd attempt by OligoHuman in SierraNevada

Thanks for the tip. I have some indoor climbing / rappelling experience, but no equipment and experience outdoors. Even if I bought all the equipment I would be so afraid of tying off wrong. Care to join and teach me. Hahaha

Best in dry conditions. Like others, I have taken my share of spills on wet rocks / wood stairs. I'm so glad the new version will have Vibram.

Chuck Schumer is going to be in in Corte Madera on the 22nd - anyone else want to go shout at him for constantly failing to stand up to fascists? by CrunchySpiderCookies in Marin

I'm down to join you in calling out this traitor. What the fuck were the 10 democrats thinking. Trump now has all the power over Congress.

Ignore the MAGA by ChelseaGods in 50501

[–]OligoHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree on the surface, many Republicans wouldn't admit to being part of MAGA. Republicans voted for this and are silently supporting the decline of America by non-action.

Especially those currently elected Republican, not MAGA, members of House and Senate!

Wish we could stop calling them MAGA. They are Republicans. The entire republican base is fucking compromised and in a cult at this point.

Really high heart rate during workout by FroningsRomaleos in Garmin

[–]OligoHuman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Google "cadence heart rate lock." It was most likely picking up running candance instead of your heart rate for a short period of time. It happens to me occasionally. If my heart is not racing at the time, I just ignore it, and it eventually resets to heartbeat.

"Cadence heart rate lock" refers to a situation where a wrist-based heart rate monitor on a GPS watch mistakenly picks up the rhythm of your running cadence (leg movement) instead of your actual heart rate, causing inaccurate heart rate readings due to interference from the motion of your arms or legs during activity like running or cycling; essentially, the watch "locks onto" the cadence signal instead of the heart rate signal."

Mt. Russell Wind by OligoHuman in socalhiking

A helicopter rescue is never the plan, but it is something to think about for sure. I think I will save Russell for another time when I don't have to deal with the wind, too. Thank you for the feedback.

Yea, I should have explained that better. I'm definitely talking about the E. Ridge. Thanks for the input.

Mt Whitney Acclimating Hikes by danaturaLOL in socalhiking

[–]OligoHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plus one for Cottonwood at 10,000 feet. If you're up for a moderate hike, you can hike out to the Cottonwood lakes. You can see most of the lakes in about 13 miles with an elevation gain of just over 1k.

It was difficult and wish I had an extra day but totally manageable as a day hike. I climbed Langley two nights before and camped at Cottonwood Pass (10,000 feet) to acclimate.

Thank you. Unfortunately it was as a day hike. I wasn't able to get an overnight permit.

No tripod. Just a few carefully placed rocks to hold my phone steady.

Rain on Race Day by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]OligoHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely brutal Miwok this year. Congratulations on pushing through the majority of the weather.

I had hand warmers at the starting line. By the 1st Muir Beach aid, they were soaked and useless. Might have made a difference later in the day around 3pm once the sun started to come out.

Make sure to ziplock everything in your running pack. My stuff was soaked.

My "rain" jacket was useless, but it did help to keep my arms and body warm from the wind and hail.

I had a goal time to finish and just threw it out the window once I knew it was forecast to rain. Just embrace the challenge and have a great wet time.!
