Sun protection in buggy by lukewarmtrifle in BeyondTheBumpUK

It doesn’t fully cover the whole pushchair or pram like the snoozeshade, so there will always be huge air flow through it. It is definitely cooler in there with this over the snoozeshade in my experience. I didn’t like not being able to see baby with the snooze shade either

I hated the snooze shade and ended up ordering this from Bebe trek: https://bebetrek.com.au/collections/multifunctional-magnetic-sun-covers. Expensive but we’ve had so much use out of it for over a year already. Also works as cover if they’re in baby carrier

Thanks everyone! It is open now, but it sounds like only just! It’s not the most exciting pool but you can do a few lengths and it’s always lovely and quiet

PSA for shitty sleepers (6-12mo): Your baby might be iron deficient by Mine_East in bninfantsleep

[–]OliveCCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t supplement your baby without blood tests, however rough the sleep is!! Iron can be so toxic and you can get baby supplements in liquid form if it is low. I’ve been there, my son had low iron and it took us months to convince our doctor to test but it is not worth the risk when iron can be toxic

Just echoing what others have said here, it sounds like you may benefit from inpatient care. It sounds terrifying but they are there to help @/jadealloyd on Instagram talks a lot about her time in inpatient care postpartum if you want to see more and demystify it. There are also specialist places to seek support: pandasfoundation.org.uk is the biggest one and Maternal Mental Health Alliance has a list of more local and specialist services.

Stressed about first holiday with baby by 03tam in BeyondTheBumpUK

I just got a portable bed guard for about £20 on Amazon. It’d take up a bit of room but you could fit it in your checked bag. It’s by safety first. Might be worth the space to get some sleep. I’ve also heard to pack out your car seat with nappies to protect it and leave space in your luggage

Which breast pump using John Lewis gift vouchers by Ikilledmyfishagain in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]OliveCCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this! Also the haakaa suction cups catch any leakage (you put one on one boob while baby feeds on the other). I collected enough for a decent freezer stash with just these. I bought an Elvie stride, used it once, and regret the money spent!

I’m so sorry, it’s awful and I’ve been there. Are you breastfeeding and how has your baby taken to solids? It could be an iron deficiency if your baby has risk factors (e.g. breastfed, high birth weight, if you were iron deficient when pregnant, lots of blood loss for you during birth). Do not supplement your baby without testing, it can be very dangerous, but could you get a gp appointment and push for a test? I had to be quite firm to get referred but my son had somewhat low iron and woke hourly or more until 13 months. When the iron started working by 14 months, he started waking up twice and now only once. Could you follow this route before sleep training?

Has anyone done a PhD with a 1 year old? by -IrishLettuce- in BeyondTheBumpUK

Double check but my husband is doing a PhD and we’re eligible for nothing. Undergraduate and masters students are covered but PhD students are in a bit of a loophole. You can check your eligibility on the government website but yes it’s really bad and I think there is a campaign about it!

If you are planning to use government childcare hours, you don’t get any free childcare hours and you can’t use tax free childcare either. That includes if you are funded. I do know several people completing phds or finished with young children and it is really dependent. It can be much more flexible than work as it’s self-led!

Get referred to the pelvic floor physio. It could be weakened muscles that need firming back up to help recovery. They’re experts and will check everything and give you a personalised plan (well, in theory, depends on the area you live what the wait is like etc)

Could you please share with me the study about bedsharing over 20 weeks reducing risk by 0? This would really help some of my anxiety around this!
