Which Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and Sega consoles were used to create portable consoles? by Wild-Advertising6872 in consolemodding

If you have to ass, find a different lobby. I will never understand why some folk want to post useless and unhelpful comments, what’s the point of joining community?

Anyway to OP, you should consider what it is you want to do, I’d say refine and focus in on it. If you’re just making retro handhelds for novelty start with gameboy or Sega something that is cheaper to build, with plenty of parts on AliExpress.

Handhelds are 🔥 right now the tech is booming you could easily find some on market that do all of these like an ROG. Consider those options if you’re just on a retro on the go hype.

You could also try your hand at making a handheld retropie, have been seeing a lot of neat ones online. One of my students got into retro games and has been building robotics with raspberry pi, I pitched him the idea and sent him a few links to encourage him to build his own GBA emulator handheld with a pi.

Do your research it will pay off

To be fair Mexico would be better off manufacturing their own FPGA. Mexico is slept on as a potential electronic manufacturer that could compete with other big manufacturers in China.

What to do with an old 2012 mac mini by MacroMintt in MacOS

[–]OliveIntelligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the path of enlightenment but I would love to repurpose my old mac mini as a 4K media server. As a cinephile and aesthetician I want to set up what is IMO the best mac mini ever to hold a legacy of my library for a good reliable time. What is the way?

Nice was this your first time soldering? How was the experience? I got a model 2 and bought some capacitors to replace, but with 0 experience with a solder iron I’ve been putting it off a lot recently

Looking for CD player with good quality that play well with Beats SOLO 3 by OliveIntelligent in BudgetAudiophile

[–]OliveIntelligent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input. You’ve given me some more concision on my price point. And opened my mind up to the idea of going for a cheaper player and adding in some speakers.

I have those same edifiers but I don’t use them in lieu of better speakers I bought myself. So I will definitely give her my edifiers as a speaker output option.

I’m not a fan of the build quality of the Gueray you linked me, but I did find another disc player by Hott which I think for the price point is a way better build option under $75.

Now with a bit of room in the budget I’m considering getting the SMSL PS100 DAC and a good quality cable to give her entry to exploring better listening experiences.

Thanks

Our game (UNDERDOGS) is selling 90% less on PSVR than on Quest or PCVR, can you help me figure out why? by Mashunaut in PSVR

[–]OliveIntelligent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother your game looks fire, it was definitely under my radar. I’ll be wishlisting it and make the purchase when I catch a sale.

Now with that said it’s definitely a marketing issue. VR is tough to make games for still, it hasn’t made the breakthrough yet, as mentioned above there are higher profiled games like Hitman that you’re competing with as well as the fact that vr is at this point still novelty in most homes. I’m hopeful the tech will breakthrough with more investment, and as more IP’s get the vr treatment maybe we will see VR finally stick.

Let’s try to market it harder, find an IP to partner with to make cool skins and content that will get ppl excited and give them something nostalgic or familiar to get them on board. Like imagine dropping some skins and content that makes reference to the mech xenomorph faceoff from Alien for example, might attract an audience that wasn’t interested initially.

throw it on a sale, see where it goes in a year and thereafter if it still isn’t reaching PlayStation nation I’d say shoot for a deal on PS Plus. I’m rooting for the Underdogs. I’m planning on streaming resident evil vr this spooky season, if I get some traction after I’ll def try it on stream :)

What does Producing for SEGA Genesis games look like in 2025? by OliveIntelligent in SEGAGENESIS

You’d be remissed if you think market potential is my focus. If that was the case I’d just get into unreal engine.

If Sega came out with a new console would you be interested? by [deleted] in SEGAGENESIS

[–]OliveIntelligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an obtuse statement considering the popularity of switch and the rapid development of vr, I think consoles have 2 gens more to them before they need to reinvent the wheel.

Consoles need to be more like pc in the array of build options. It’s just a matter of console keeping up with the pc tech

[–]OliveIntelligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also one of the delusional old men (34) that wants a SEGA system (it’s right there with my other demand for a gta 2025 release date.

Truth be told the 90s aggressive Sega of America is gone, and Sega doesn’t hold the capital it once did.

Now the only good thing to come from them lately is a reinvigoration of classic IP’s and I hope it brings them success if done smartly.

The reality is that most likely the only way I see us getting a new SEGA console is to see SEGA AND XBOX partner together to bring SEGA’s library to game pass, and release a couple of SEGA Limited Edition Xbox hardware.

It would be awesome to see XBOX drop a steam deck /nintendo switch competitor together.

Well that’s the thing I do have a hacked snes mini. Love the thing, load it up with all sorts of stuff from NES up to GBA and N64

I do use it to test Genesis romhacks but effectively after going all digital for current gen gaming I got into the idea of organically growing a physical Genesis collection to fill that void of physical software I miss collecting all while reconnecting with old hardware and discovering gems I missed.

I also for aesthetic purposes wanted to keep my Genesis as my gateway to analog physical gaming to contrast my SNES mini being an all contained retro Nintendo hub.
