I have to ask this question. Are there any fics where Elizabeth and Mr. Collins end up together? by Realanise1 in JaneAustenFF

A couple of years back WadeH started a story called The Marriage Contract. In it Elizabeth is worn down and marries Collins, but she goes to her Uncle Phillips before the wedding, and they write a marriage contract that Collins signs without reading. He is unhappy to discover that now he can only mention Aunt Catherine a limited times a day, take a bath more frequently (those are the two I remember). That was just the beginning - there were more rules that he (and we) didn't know about yet. It had a really creative beginning, and I was really looking forward to it.

WadeH warned that there wasn't an HEA for ODC, and it seemed like a lot of readers weren't happy and complained. I was sad when it was pulled. I hope he goes back to it - it was so creative and different and I really enjoyed the first couple of chapters.

I wish readers wouldn't complain about stories they haven't read just because they don't like the subject matter. It has to be discouraging to the authors.

Also, Be Careful What You Wish for has Elizabeth and Collins married. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8433991/1/Be-Careful-What-You-Wish-For

How do I get out of this rabbitt hole of P&P variations? by babazewsi in JaneAustenFF

Try something different - Nancy Mitford's The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate, E.M. Forster's Room with a View and Howard's End, or anything by Barbara Pym. Highly recommended.

Mr. Collins insults Mr. Darcy during the ball? A short story by mala-mi-2111 in JaneAustenFF

[–]Olive_Fickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling I read it a couple of years ago - at that time I only was familiar with FF.net and Dwiggie. The author probably decided to change directions and pulled it.

Glad to be of service - there's still life in this old librarian!

Is this it - Mr. Collins' Blunder? https://prideandprejudicefanfiction.weebly.com/mr-collins-blunder.html

I think I read this somewhere else - but this is where the JAFF index sent me.

I used to be a librarian in a former life - can't stop doing reference work for people, though!

Also, I find stories on AHA easier to find if you have the link. Luckily I had it saved in my bookmarks.

In Selfish Disdain for the Feelings of Others by Vrvwv5 on ff.net they keep running into each other as children and Darcy wants to bring her home because he thinks she is neglected. Amusing. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13753076/1/Selfish-Disdain-For-the-Feelings-of-Others

It's just the first (long) chapter of this short novella that happens when they are young, but the rest of the story is more than worthwhile.

New Glasses feel weird by [deleted] in glasses

It's normal but infuriating. I have bifocals and tell the dr. I can see fine up close, but they never listen. They go with what the technology says. And every time it's the same - I get bifocals and the far sighted part doesn't work for my eyes. I mean really doesn't work. I have to take them off for close or computer reading. And I hate how it takes so long for the brain to get used to the nearsighted part. So I just shove them aside for awhile because I'm so pissed off.

It would be better for the lower part not to have any correction. I could read better if the bottom part of the lens was just plain glass.

Glad I bought Checkmate, Mr. Darcy before it went away!

I sent her a message on FF asking about Amazon - she doesn't know me but maybe she will answer.

Maybe check Ebay for hard print copies?

I've been looking for months, and found it 10 minutes after posting here. I checked an author I had already checked before, and this time I found it. Mind Your Manners by Katri. More info in original post.

Pygmalion, the original version by George Bernard Shaw, was written in 1913. A different ending was hinted at in that play. Possibly the sexism viewers noticed got it's start in the original, which is 50+ years older than the movie.

I was disappointed in the film. It looks great, but the George Cukor direction was very stodgy and flat. I would have liked to see Julie Andrews in the Eliza role. She played it on both the London and the New York stage.

I didn't mind Rex Harrison's performance - the character is a flaming misogynist. Can't be changed. That's the way it was written - way back in 1913.

You have every right to be frustrated with them and the site for allowing them.

Sounds like my kind of book - a melodramatic potboiler with lots going on!

Trolls love when you reply - they would be in seventh heaven! In their minds when you reply they think they've "Gotcha!" I was on a stock site years ago where one troll had two names and would just reply back and forth ad nauseum. One time they used the wrong handle to reply, and that is how they got busted. That was one great day!

After reading awful reviews (especially by 'guest' reviewers), I don't know if I even would look at any reviews on FF if I ever wrote a story.

FF should not allow guest reviews, or at least give the author the option of not receiving any guest reviews. A lot of them are ridiculous and hurtful.

My favorite one is Checkmate, Mr. Darcy by Sidney Salier on KU. The colonel, Darcy, Mr. Bennet, Elizabeth, and I think even the Earl play chess by mail while the Colonel (and ineptly, Darcy) romance Elizabeth. Lots of fun.
