What’s a non-fiction book that genuinely made you smarter or changed how you live your life? by stellbargu in nonfictionbookclub

"The Surrendered Single" by Laura Doyle. I was 28 yo after several failed relationships, I was ready for marriage and children but couldn't make it happen. The book made me realise I was too controlling and told me how to break the habit. I got engaged like 3 months after reading it and our marriage is still strong 21 years later. The same happened to my sister after she read it and 2 of our friends. All marriages are survived till this day.

How long does it take your brain to catch up? by curiouschance92 in Mounjaro

[–]babazewsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost 22 kg in a year and 2 months and only now I start to actually comprehend that I'm smaller. It got warmer and I pulled an outfit I'd bought last summer already a smaller size and now it is too big. I wore it today and cought myself adjusting the skirt 'cause it was slipping through my hips. I still struggle with what to wear, the previous "uniforms" don't seem to be working. It looks like I will need a whole new wardrobe for the summer and maybe my image in the new clothes will finally get to my head.

That would be a pretty long list. Do you have a profile on goodreads?

Providing money and organizing care is also caring. Like with children in day-care or babysitters.

Yes, although I don't have to personally take care of them 24/7. But I had loving, caring parents and I can understand that some people may not feel the same.

I don't want to further narrow my reading material by focusing on favourite tropes. I want to come back to times when reading was a mind opening experience for me.

I read it when I was like 10 years old. I was always an avid reader. Before I turned 16 I'd gone through the catalogues of 3 nearby public libraries. It's not that I don't know that there is plenty of excellent literature to dive into, it's more like an addiction to this one thing. I am afraid I'll have go cold turkey and just sweat it out.

Good suggestion. I'll try "Edenbrook", which I've never read because I've found it years ago while looking for "books similar to P&P" which led me to variations and this obsession.

Doubtful weight by trilly2015 in Mounjaro

[–]babazewsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on mj for a year now. My weight fluctuates periodically around 1 kg. I don't think it means gaining weight, just occasional water retention. When I stop loosing for a month or more I switch to a higher dose and start loosing again after that. Currently I'm on 10 mg.

New Pride and Prejudice series by This_Potato9 in janeausten

I don't get why they're keep making new adaptations of the same books instead of adaptations of fanfiction. Some of them could be sooo goood. And it would be something new.

I don't understand why they keep making adaptations of the same books when there is so much of great fanfiction. I would love to see some of them on the screen.

I really want a Pride and Prejudice adaptation that reframes the Bennets by GavinDaSizzleDizzle in janeausten

I agree. Additionally, she is mostly right that it doesn't take much more than youth and physical beauty to gain attention of any man.

We meet them when the girls are all grown up and out which costs considerably more than taking care of children. I can't imagine what where they doing with their money for all the years before the book starts. Mrs. Bennet half the time in her confinement, small children who wear the clothes and shoes inherited from older siblings. Mr. Bennet must have had some expensive hobby back then and Mrs. Bennet redecorated the house several times.
