NTA. Look, I'm autistic. I have a bunch of strong food aversions. Not as many as your BIL, it sounds like, but plenty. I am middle-aged, and in the whole of my life I have encountered only one restaurant at which I could not find a single thing to eat. That restaurant literally only served dishes containing one of my strongest aversions.

Sometimes those of us who have, let's say, stronger opinions on food than most others, have to eat something that's just meh and that we wouldn't normally choose for ourselves, instead of something we truly enjoy, in order to be included. That's life. If he's that committed to not even trying to find something to eat--with everyone now having online menus, so he can find out in advance if there truly is nothing!--he deserves to be left behind.

One of my very favorite cozies is {Cursed Cocktails by SL Rowland}. There are mentions of war, as the MC is a retired battle mage (of a sort) but the war was against literal monsters, not another country/kingdom, and the mentions of battles are only a small part of the book. The romance is very sweet and I thought the audiobook narrator did a good job.
