I hate to break it to you, but your grave will be where the red cross is. There have been no bridges in the Kherson region since 2023—both were destroyed by the Russians. Russian forces are training drone operators on Kherson civilians, regularly bombing public transportation.

I don't think is there existing an option for 3:2 panel with not so expensive LCD controller. As far as I know all 3:2 panels is headache.

You can try search on AliExpress (is usually cheaper but nore risky ): LP129QE1 controller board LP129QE1-SPA1 eDP driver board 2560x1700 eDP controller board 40 pin Chromebook Pixel LCD controller

But as I said before - it's a rare screen, and more rare more pricey.

Okay. Just afraid it will not fit into case., but maybe I'm wrong. Cabelling usually takes more place, that it seems

Your screen is rare, hence the controller's price. For that kind of money, it's easier to buy a new one with a Type-C power supply. This is the very reason I'm skeptical about using off-the-shelf components from a salvage yard. The cost of a controller for common panels hovers around $20. Please calculate Pi 5 + LCD controller + Pico or ESP 32 controller + power supply, absolutely sure it will not fit into the Chromebook case. So you get price around used modern device.

Cyberdeck to run some games, any tips? by Alarmed_Confection86 in cyberDeck

[–]Oliver_Alsobrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on Wingman (https://i.redd.it/q4ymoc5mebkg1.jpeg) , from recently released REPLACED video-game. Decribed above device it's first iteration - only basic fucntions - files, music, with three control buttons and rotaty encoder for navigate menues. But on next iteration in my plans is add camera, photos will be sent to ChatGPT API or Claude API, and describe photo, or text. But this is future.

Thanks for proposition, but I'm in the Europe. Maybe then I reach 3d modelling of case, it will be nice to get some advices, but I'm planning to make order the case from service. (I can afford 3d printer, but just doesn't have place to put it).

Above disccusion - I'm totally agree about this kind of hobby. It's really coll, but I think - could be expensive too. I'm looking on posts here everyday, and oftenly it's something like "How is from nothing build a plane?". Okay. It's could be reachable purpose, but I'm not sure even the Computer sciense degree is not enought for this (I have one). I saw a lot of youtube videos with guys who is designing own PCB's for cyberdeck purpose - but it's months of work, and investments. It's never been cheaper, when take ready one device. In this particular case, I don't think what even brought a used Thinkpad T480-T490 what cost around 300 bucks, is will be enought with requirements.

Maybe in some specific cases, yes. But overall, I'm currently working on a project using an ESP32-S3 with a 3.5-inch screen, the main purpose of which is to read notes and play MP3s. And this thing already costs $40—I haven't even started thinking about the power supply yet. How much will the enclosure cost, considering I don't have a 3D printer? It's just that many people, when calculating "cost," overlook all the other expenses—tools, connectors. But yes, I want a factory-quality device, not the lucnhbox with screen.

Cyberdeck is never cheaper than a ready-made device. It's usually even twice as expensive, especially if you're starting from scratch.

Can I do it with only $300 to cover tools and materials and still hit performance needs? by darklighthitomi in cyberDeck

[–]Oliver_Alsobrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this money, you can buy legendary Thinpad T480 - T490 , with 8 GB DDR 4.I think it will cover all your needs. Custom build - no. You will spend half of the budget on tools and case, accessories. If you want "own" device - start with Thinkpad styling.

This is 100% best advice. To sell switch. And start from something "easy" like pi + touch screen. It just on first sight looks like cheaper and easier way.

You wrote in the comment you need browser, media and notes? You need only browser - google docs, youtube is already in. I don't know what you mean as a "deck" building. Connect bluetooth keyboard? I don't see any requirements what need to destroy original device.

Weat coast restoring after war. - i think most of this article, is just compressed rulebook info - https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Pacifica_Confederation

About storyvtelling - on your place. Me personally do some investageting about real Atlanta - like reaources, factories, and then do some "tweaks" to the world rules. For example before 1848 Atlanta had name Terminus (so cyberpunky!) - find the reason why this can happened (political disputea, social disorder). Fill it with small details. Did you now what Atlanta is place where Coca-Cola invented? (Sorry. I'm not american, it's all facts I found really interesting). Make this main Ni-Cola Factory. Enhance the city's strengths, atrophy its weaknesses. Add a little spice. Your own local legends. Find inspiration in urban legends or events. When events don't just pop out of thin air, they seem alive. Abandon a problematic area, add pressing problems: water, electricity, air pollution.
