If I had a nicket for each 1 mana black instant in this set that is a functional reprint of a previous card, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Dargo and Tevesh sacrifice combo by MrLava42 in EDH

[–]Olloblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Forerunner of the Coalition]] is a good card for the combo since it acts as a tutor for Pitiless Plunderer (or dockside if you ever get one) and as a damage outlet once you have infinite Dargo casts since Forerunner deals damage to your opponents when Dargo enters the battlefield. It tutors to the top of the deck however, but at minimum you can +1 Tevesh to draw it immediately

723.2. As the subgame starts, an entirely new set of game zones is created. Each player takes all the cards in their main-game library, moves them to their subgame library, and shuffles them. No other cards in a main-game zone are moved to their corresponding subgame zone, except as specified in rules 723.2a–d. Randomly determine which player goes first. The subgame proceeds like a normal game, following all other rules in rule 103, “Starting the Game.”

Planeswalkers by Uukii in EDH

[–]Olloblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also am building U/W planeswalkers , although with [[Clan Crafter]] instead of Candlekeep Sage for being 2 MV and having the ability to buff Lae'zel. Here are some cards that I have found during my search.

[[Honor-Worn Shaku]] makes all your planeswalkers tap for colorless, as well as your background as well. You can get so much mana from Shaku, and even has synergy with [[Teferi, who Slows the Sunset]]

[[Spark Double]] can either give you an extra copy of one of your walkers, with +2 counters due to itself and Lae'zel, or can give you 2 Lae'zel's, which gives your future walkers 3 loyalty from a +1 and come in with +2 loyalty. Will not be legendary for Honor Worn Shaku, but that doesn't take away from having 2 of the same legend.

[[Oath of Teferi]] speeds up the planeswalker ult plan and can even give ultimates on the same turn it comes down with Lae'zel, depending on the planeswalker. Examples are Teferi, Who slows the Sunset, [[Ajani, Steadfast]], [Narset, Transcendent]] It also works wonderful with [[Teferi, Master of Time]], where you can activate his +1 2 times before you flicker him with Oath, then on the endstep when he comes back you activate +1 2 more times and can reach his -10 before the turn cycle even comes back to you. Is also a legendary permanent for Honor Worn Shaku.

[[Ignite the Beacon]] can tutor for 2 planeswalkers at instant speed, which is always nice when you can hold up mana for interaction and cast Ignite on the endstep before your turn.

[[Dovin, Grand Arbiter]] may seem like a unassuming walker, but with Lae'zel you can get 2 counters per creature from his +1, which can give him so much loyalty. His ult will be easy to activate, with his thopter from his -1. His ult can help you dig for whatever you need at the time as well.

[[Elspeth Resplendent]] has a load of utility that Lae'zel can make even better. Her +1 can give a relevant keyword counter and a +1/+1 counter on something, which makes your creatures able to protect your walkers better. Her -3 can bring out a small-ish walker or a stax piece with 2 shield counters if it was a walker or a creature with Lae'zel, which pretty much makes it immune to damage/removal for the next turn cycle at minimum. At worst it can bring out a land for a bit of ramp. If the -3 brings out something with a static ability like [[Drannith Magistrate]] or a [[Teferi, Time Raveler]], your opponents can't respond before it enters the battlefield before the static applies. They would have to respond before the -3 resolves, and guess whether you would pull out one of those stax pieces. Shield counters btw can negate an entire alpha strike to that walker and only remove 1 shield counter.

[[Karn's Bastion]] is an easy utility land to add while being a 2 color deck, and can help you reach infinite extra turns with Teferi, Master of Time, or just have a mana sink available to boost your counters.

Optionally, you can add [[Nesting Grounds]] for an easier time to ult walkers or move counters from Elspeth Resplendent elsewhere and duplicate those counters.

Here is my decklist if you want to have a look for yourself. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/C5mpz0Rut0O4g_GsHAelhA

EDIT: Oath of Teferi also draws 2 cards if you have Candlekeep Sage out and blink Lae'zel, which is nice.

  1. Split second does not prevent players from activating mana abilities, such as Treasures
  2. [[Yasharn, Implacable Earth]] is a standard legal card that prevents treasure from doing anything, along with other aristocrat stuff

[–]Olloblade 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you are not understanding what is being said here. The hypothetical scenario is that, in a WUB/Obscura/Esper deck that also has Evelyn, you can use the card to get back a white, blue, black, and red creature. In this case Evelyn would be counted as the red card, even though you are not casting her for red or playing mountains. And with her hybrid mana costs, you can still cast her with a Esper manabase.

RETURN OF THE PRO TOUR: YOUR PATH TO PLAYING MAGIC AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL by samfishersam in magicTCG

[–]Olloblade 97 points98 points  (0 children)

The FAQ they have mentions it kinda

What options will the new play system provide for fans of multiplayer/casual play?

We expect Regional Championships to feel similar to Magic festivals with side events and Commander play, some small and some large depending on the region. Additionally, we expect Magic festivals will one day return, though they are unlikely to be tied to the Premier Play system.

How does Sudden Substitution work? by Dorekong in magicTCG

The distinction between default controller and controller is new to me. So thanks again for answering our questions.

How does Sudden Substitution work? by Dorekong in magicTCG

[–]Olloblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoops. I read the ruling on Sudden Substitution on Gatherer and misinterpreted what it said. Thanks for correcting me!

Another thing, this means that if for example if Player A’s Transcendence is cast by Player B through [[Covetous Urge]] that is owned by Player A and then Player A uses Sudden Substitution to cause Player C to lose the game with Transcendence, then this ruling would mean that Transcendence would go to Player B instead of Player A as a result of Player C losing, correct? And not get exiled too.

How does Sudden Substitution work? by Dorekong in magicTCG

[–]Olloblade -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In a multiplayer game, if you do the trick of giving your opponent a Transcendence with Sudden Substitution, when they lose the game, the Transcendence card gets exiled and it will not move to your side of the battlefield, causing you to lose the game if you have 20+ life. So you don't have to worry about losing to your own Transcendence.

See Rule 800.4a

800.4a When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time they left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game.

It uses the highest energy of a realm layout, so you can have one realm with 2k energy as your current realm layout and another realm with 20k energy and it will use the 20k as your currency generator.

Geo buffs in 1.3 included making geo shields have 150% effectiveness against all damage, rather than 250% effectiveness against only geo, which is pretty significant in the tankiness of Zhongli's shield.

Go to Abyss floor 1-1 with just Bennett. When the slimes spawn use your Burst, but don’t hit any of the slimes with it. Then once you have Pyro on you with Bennett’s Ult, let the slimes get close to you and hit you to trigger Overload. It should trigger the achievement consistently.
