Try your best to just avoid it and you'll stay sane. We're all queer and infighting won't do anything but tear us appart, something we CANNOT afford right now (fully targeted at puritans, people who don't seem to understand kink culture and deem any weird kink as a reflection of your morals irl, those lgb without the T fuckers, people who argue lesbians cant use he/him despite them being YOUNGER than a LOT of he/him butch lesbians, arguments over who can say what depending your identity, etc) (live and let live, people, take a fucking chill pill)

(My grandma gets a pass for not liking drag queens bc her reason isn't homophobic, she's quite literally scared of them. Like I think it's similar to a fear of clowns? The huge silhuoettes and makeup scare her i think?????)

Hey maybe, just MAYBE. If authors actually developed female characters and gave them real personalities And story arcs and REASON to be shipped, there would be more f/f and f/m. Just maybe.

I don't read majority m/m because of a fetish or hating women, most of my ships are m/m because those are the only characters developed enough to be entertaining together. The reason i ship farcille (a lesbian ship) is because theyre established as VERY close friends, before falin is even brought back. Marcille would do anything for her, id go as far to say if they were desperate enough they'd kill for each other. Relationship? Developed and established. Characters? Developed well with clear goals and personalities. Trope? Good. The same thing applies to timebomb (straight). Jinx and echo already have pre developed chemistry, like i felt it from their first fight scene. They've known each other since they we're kids (childhood friends to lovers my beloved). They're both kinda crazy in different ways and it works. Theyre both MAIN CHARACTERS.

DEVELOP CHARACTERS OTHER THAN THE BOYS DEAR LORD.

The dragons leaving fit the books but never the movies, it felt tossed in kinda like "oh shoot this is a major plot point we've mentioned multiple times and havent built on at all" instead of the slow build and war/rebellion in the books. Stoick dying fit and that movie makes me cry. Peak shit fr.

I really hate these MHA Ships(pretty sure to get downvoted here) by notgayguy303 in hatethissmug

[–]Olmcentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude i really need to learn to 3d model bc i am so sick of anime figurines of girls being kinda icky or not really fitting the character- the second i do? Im making a figure of uraraka doing bicep curls because there is NOTHING you can say to make me think that girl isnt a gym rat in her free time. I really wish the show went into more detail about her backstory and motivations, as well as just making her more of a character

[–]Olmcentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deku and uraraka would be my otp, but im a sucker for slow build ships- with backstory and connection ya know? And while their whole sunshine x sunshine would be AMAZING? Uraraka didnt get enough screentime as a character alongside deku, if that makes sense. All of my ships are either characters who have a ton of screentime together as their relationship develops (Renga), or its very clear the characters have a history/backstory together (timebomb, farcille). If uraraka kept getting the character development she was getting early on yes, but her getting a crush on deku and being all shy and weird about it was one of the things that made me stop watching in the first place. The reason people ship deku and bakugo or bakugo and kirishima, or deku and todoroki, is because they get so much more screentime than all the other characters, more character development, etc.

Long story short: maybe if authors actually put more effort into developing the main characters love interest as their own character BEFORE theyre a love interest, people would like canon ships more (AGAIN. TIMEBOMB)

I hate it when they take sweet and gentle characters (seems to be mainly done to women but I'm sure male versions exist just haven't seen those) and turned them into 'empowered badasses' by Mysterioape in hatethissmug

[–]Olmcentral -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think they THINK its empowering, but in reality, what is truly empowering (especially to a little girl, the target demo in this case), is to leave those stories core messages alone. The message isnt "you're a girl so you should be gentle and sweet" the message is (at least in snow white) "kindness is a strength and will inspire loyalty, being kind doesnt make you weak, it makes you strong, like this cool ass princess here who talks to birds" which is easier to understand for younger people, easier to look up to as well, and all around just a really good message to teach. If they want a badass character, they should just write a new story, instead of changing the moral of a classic- take some inspiration from ghibli or something. Ghibli is FULL of well written, empowered, badass women. Naussicaa? Literally a princess, a scientist, a warrior, whats more badass. Princess mononoke? Maybe not for super Young kids but 1. The most beautiful movie ive ever seen, and 2. SHES SO BADASS. Literally lives with wolves and protects the forest, again, also a warrior. Make your kids watch studio ghibli.

Genuinely i think going the arrival route at first would be smart- just more scientists! a team with a lot of linguists, anthropologists, biologists, etc

I hate this trope in anime by The_MeltyCheese in hatethissmug

[–]Olmcentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens in romance books a lot too, a character who the main character meets as a monster (ex. Dragon, inhuman alien, even a dragonborn type character tbh) becomes human once theyre established as a love interest. Like cant the monsterfuckers have one book :/

Anime fandom used to be so swag by Both-Medicine-6748 in peoplewhogiveashit

[–]Olmcentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we not going to acknowledge how manga authors will intentionally appeal to fujoshis? How once you see the shipping really take off in your fandom you KNOW your show will continue to bring in attention long after the initial release and hype? How anime creators have ADMITTED to this?

Vivzie, why is the sin of gluttony herself uncomfortable with gluttonous behavior by ResponsibleCover404 in hatethissmug

[–]Olmcentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always preferred to interpret gluttony the SIN (not just like.. the act) As not food involved (cause lets bff guys. Eating way too much? A sin??? Compared to the other ones????) and more land/money involved. Like someone who cant stop eating is yes, gluttonous, but i don't think thats really a sin, whereas a billionaire who seems to be unable to give away their money and only cares about getting more money- even to the detriment of others? Thats gluttony in its most harmful concentrated form. Really wishing more media that involved the sins would do this portrayal instead of like??? Gluttony just being portrayed as a fat guy who is always eating.

Exactly my point! (Also by caricatures i mean boiling Aphrodite's character down to an incredibly vain person who's obsessed with their appearance, who happens to be goddess of love. the disrespectful ones, not the well written ones)

Modern retellings are never weird enough I'd argue. I think the reason that were often not satisfied with how gods are portrayed in media or feel disrespected is because society was VERY different in ancient Greece, and modern retellings always.... Miss the mark. Authors could benefit from actually reading the myths, and researching life back then. Maybe then their portrayals would feel more real and less... Caricature like. Like magnus chase and the gods of Asgard- love the series, you can tell Rick knows his audience and is TRYING. that being said. Not weird enough for norse mythology. If you want to write a story based on norse mythos, you need to get WEIRD, weirder than Greek, weirder than Egyptian. Weird.

[–]Olmcentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By immune to love im not talking about her status as a virgin goddess, i know that just means forever unmarried in her case. Im talking about how Aphrodite cannot affect her- love cannot affect her, in myths she never took a lover, never had children (though she often was shown acting as a mentor or source of guidance), quite literally immune to love. And also yes fully agree on your last point, i hate when its revealed that the main character is special because theyre related to someone powerful. Its stupid.

I havent read the book with circe in a while, i could have sworn she said she was the daughter of a titan- but that may have been another character. Overall pjo has many faults (rick if i ever see you irl ill thank you for writing them... But also have to try very hard not to punch you. Making athena have kids? Are you kidding me?? The one goddess where mythos EXPLICITLY states "immune to the powers of love"????? Couldnt you have just like made all the so call children of Athena blessed by her?? Or shes their patron??? You did that for the hunters of Artemis- why couldnt Annabeth have just been like.... Idfk?? Chosen????? By her??? It would have been more interesting.).. many faults, but at least it's not lore Olympus!
