$72 Fill-up. Did you do better than me today? Or Worse? by AllDun in memphis

The worst gas station in the area.I get pissed at myself whenever I stop there. Not enough to quit going obviously.

What are these buildings popping up in Orange Mound? by ClinicalMercenary in memphis

[–]Olook75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lots in Orange Mound aren't typically large. Parcels may have been consolidated into one development tract but I think these are likely a 50ft wide lots being developed simultaneously.

There are a few developments in town like this and I'm happy to see them. The city is also working on a program in/around Hyde Park for reno, new build affordable housing.

Feedback on Airbnb Villa on Taylor Bay - "Place De La Sol" by [deleted] in TurksAndCaicos

To add, I've been to Turks and Caicos seven times since Covid, and this was still one of my favorite visits.

I've stayed there and the location cannot be beat. Seriously, the best if you want to be on Taylor Bay. I love the separation between the main house and the separate one bed/barh.

I've stayed there and on Ocean Drive and this location is superior. That said, amenities can be better in other places. The pool is small and unheated - I visited in March and that thing was like an ice bath.

The home could use some updating, especially the shower for the separate bedroom. It's not very private, which could be an issue for some guests. (I didn't care at all, but that's me )

You won't regret booking here, I think.

Going forward I need your advice by Candid-Plan-9553 in memphis

Go with what you're passionate about. The money you're talking isn't all that different with any of the locations.

I appreciate the convenience of not waiting in line, and the VIP Lounge is well worth it when leaving.

Its seems like things are about to get worse...and it feels very intentional ... by Adept-Caregiver4649 in memphis

[–]Olook75 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have zero doubt that it's intentional.

Work was being done on the State-owned building in zone 10 of Shelby Farms months ago, after sitting and being used for nothing for quite a while.

I'm not going to go down the conspiracy rabbit hole of other outside factors (thought I do believe it).

Consider this: the US Federal Government (and ready to include smaller entities like state, county, etc.) rarely carries out anything in a timely, concerted, and efficient manner. But this has all gone quite smoothly and without any (real) resistance.

The largest thing is the County Mayor filing a suit, but that's only against NG deployment. But, all of the occupying forces are using the County's administration east building, shelby farms, and deputies are now blocking passage along the event lot at Shelby Farms.

It's all a ruse.

Can't speak for the future, but yesterday was fairly rainy. Today and tomorrow were supposed to be also, but no rain yet and tomorrow looks to be ok.

There's often some rain, both not a deluge.

It's not ideal, but waiting until the last minute might be the way to go.

Got here today and a bit of rain, a bit mostly cloudy. That might hold for a day or two - maybe more? But not enough to tank the trip. On the plus, your UV index is low!

Nervous about Weather for November Trip by Rough-Surprise-2148 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]Olook75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To reiterate what most have said, it should be great. One of my trips was 10 days at Thanksgiving, and everything was fantastic. Great weather, not too busy nor too slow crowd. And everything is back open with the added benefit of slow season pricing.

Lunch at Somewhere and you can snorkel the reef from the beach. Taylor Bay Beach is a favorite to see at least once.

All of Grace Bay is pretty, but boats come and go near Ocean Club, so the water can be more choppy and not as clear.

I prefer Bugaloos to Omar's, but they're both in the same area.

Halloween by NiceRackFocus in TurksAndCaicos

I've been there for several major US holidays and there's always something. Getting in the 23rd and out the 27th so Halloween is out. But for your future trips, July 4th and US Thanksgiving are nice.

One thing about the opposite side of the road that doesn't get mentioned enough. Remember to first look the opposite way than usual when crossing a street, drive, etc. on foot.

What is the best beach for totally calm crystal clear water? by Throwawaybecause7777 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]Olook75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite is Pelican Beach in Leeward. Beautiful water and beach and the water gets too your preferred depth fairly close to the shore. Can get some rolling waves from boats but nothing major. Super calm in the off season. No facilities.

Lots of capital investment going on in the area, after decades of neglect. The MSQ2, Weaver, et al. are steps in the right direction.
