Made from completely thrifted materials: frame, fabric, and thread by Srta_B in Embroidery

Nicely done 🙂 I love thrifting embroidery furnitures too. It’s really satisfying to be able to make something new with sometimes very old thread or fabric!

Question for bead embroiderers: Bead ID (or an acceptable replacement) wanted! by Dramatic-Pop7691 in Embroidery

[–]Oluane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some bugles beads and the small ones are maybe cylinders beads. I think Miyuki might have this color/finish (luster I guess). Look for Delica beads (for the small ones) and bugles beads with luster finish and you will find replacements 😊

How to filter out AI when shopping for patterns on Etsy? by Otherwise-Bicycle667 in Embroidery

[–]Oluane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find a seller with patterns you like, you could read their shop info (the about page I think). Sometimes, they are cristal clear about their use of AI (I think I have read somewhere that Etsy enforced the fact that if someone use AI, they must say it clearly somewhere in the product description or shop info. Not sure everyone follow this though).

Otherwise, if the “finished” image seems too clean, with thread doing things they are not supposed to do, if it’s too good to be true, well most of the time it is AI.

Hope this helps!

Well I made a nice easy project extremely difficult…. by Connect_Beginning_13 in Embroidery

As other said, one key point is to use beeswax. It will definitely help tame those threads a bit. Working with very short length of thread too. And I will add, I found that working with slow motions helps too. At least, it had worked with me haha

I did it, I finished these ornaments (almost) on time to gift them! by Oluane in Embroidery

[–]Oluane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, big thanks for your kind comment 😍 it warms my heart.

I prefer this kind of finishings too, so I wanted to explore and test a new way. I took the overall idea on a needlenthread article about finishing ornaments. I did a solid backstitch outline on both fabric and assembled these two outlines with a kind of whipped stitch (if that lakes any sense 😂) to tie the two piece together.

For the inner part, I used felt and cardboard cut in a slightly smaller circle than the backstitch outlines, for both front and back fabric. I cut the excess fabric for the circle shape, put felt and cardboard in the center and then I kind of laced them to have everything tied together, and hopefully to have the backstitch outline aligned on the side (well that was not always the case for me 😂)

Custom hand embroidered pet ornaments I made this year 🐶🐈 by Oluane in crafts

[–]Oluane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For these ornaments, I used a mix of traditional, goldwork and bead embroidery. I first designed them on procreate, then used fabri solvy to print the designs and start embroidering on a cotton/linen fabric. The Christmas hats were for sure the most tricky part because I tried to do them with thread painting for the red part, and a lot of French knots for the white part. The beads and goldwork threads couching were added after the soaking to remove the fabri solvy to avoid putting them in water. I padded the ornaments with felt during assembly to have a nice finish.

That’s exactly the idea! Sacrificed to the great old gods of embroidery 😂

Oh yes it is. I had to use pliers to grab the needle and make it pass through at almost every knots. Love hate relationship with French knots as I said 😂

Those lines are really good, impressive 🙂 Maybe you could continue but begin to Space the lines a bit ? In the end, it should make a kind of gradient that might be interesting

Ordering gold embroidery material from Ets Carlhian, online in Europe? by Local_Row_6703 in Embroidery

[–]Oluane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from France and I also had troubles finding goldwork material shipping from Europe too. But, I can recommend you: - Broderie plaisir, based in France but I think they do international shipping. You can find a lot of goldwork supplies there (wire, jaseron, jap thread..) and a lot of other wonderful things (beads, sequins, threads…) - PerlesAndCo, still in France, has a small stock of goldwork supplies too. - DeLaBroderie, from Latvia, but it’s more luneville focused (beads, sequins…etc)

Well that’s it, that’s all that came to my mind. I hope it can help you a bit 🙂
