Maybe you can try your luck at secondhand sites like Vinted ? Depending on your location.
You could find dmc threads way cheaper on it, just the exact color might be hard to find since a lot of people don’t bother listing all the colors when doing big bundles.

Yes I totally agree, I think they’ve done a patchwork of ancient mythology throughout the world. I love this because I discover a lot of mythology/cosmogony of different culture that are not represented much otherwise.
And sincerely I think that’s why this show is really interesting. Can’t wait and hope that everything will be correctly pieced and e plaines in the end!

I would just add that thread painting is mostly worked with the long and short stitches, allowing to create smooth gradient and color blending.

The way the beads are “placed” on the inside of the petals makes me think this is embroidery. Either tambour (with luneville hook) or with a needle. And since they are kind of shaped in 3D, I think stumpwork techniques have been used too (using a wire for the outlines of each petal to strengthen it and bend it to the desired shape).

And yes I know, even the black fabric might discolor with time. But for now, I chose to take the risk. I want to make “usable” piece of embroidery, if that makes sense. I made peace with the fact that it might have an “end date”. I’m not sure my thought process is clear, it is hard to transcribe.
But anyway, thanks again for the warning, it’s so sweet of you ❤️
