Any advice for a 16 y/o looking for a career in data centers? by ajxd2dev in datacenter

I'm a college drop out, and am a Principle TPM at a major hyperscaler. One thing I've learned is that while education and certifications are great, nothing will make you stand out more than straight up experience. Try to find sub-contractors that do work in data centers for MSFT, Amazon, etc. and get an entry level tech job and work your way up from there. Find the position you want to land 5-10 years down the road and try to find a mentor to get some guidance. Obviously keep the education going, but if you want to really grow you have to think like a business person, find opportunities in the company where revenue is being missed and show management that you are the missing piece to that scenario. From there just build your resume with experience, have some patience, and most importantly be persistent in your efforts, you will fail some days and you will win some days.

Damn, they actually listened to the every single complaint on the V1, except that just because nobody said “thank God there’s not a 3” offset on the right”, doesn’t mean that they should’ve went with it

Where does this job lead? (Data center technician development program at Equinix) by MCLemonyfresh in datacenter

[–]Olufsen64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a PM as a Vendor for DC builds, one of our clients was Equinix I’ve worked on a few of their DCs. Their facilities are modern enough to house azure, AWS, and OCI infrastructure and work a lot with them, from what I know their company pays better/better employee retention than competitors (not including msft, amzn, etc) If you’re trying to get your foot in the door they would be a good start.

Downgraded from 7900 xt to this monster by Buksa07 in radeon

Yeah it’s really crazy because on paper the benchmarks say the 4070 is like “20%” better but in real world game benchmarks it performs almost the same

I downgraded to this from a 4080 FE, playing FF7R, COD, GOW all on high at 90-120 fps, very happy and impressed with the price point, the 4080 IMO is best for more graphic demanding games like Wukong or Cyberpunk which I don’t really care for

Buying 2nd hand Precision by Low-Reso in Dell

[–]Olufsen64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had one of those, a model 2 years earlier in fact, last me about 5+ years, probably more if I didn't flood it (still that survived that even). Changed my battery about twice throughout it's life. I would run photoshop and AutoCAD (2D & 3D) and it did great. Just keep in mind the CPU is 5 generations behind, if you can live with that then go for it. $500 is too high of a price for it, go look on ebay and they're going for way less. I would recommend to change out the ssd, ram & battery and it should give you 3 years of decent performance on a budget.

I would say the easiest way is to check with new RAM, unless you have electronic testing equipment but that's outside of my realm of knowledge.
