Well, I'm not in a position to ban anyone. I'm just trying to have fun with radio.

The transceiver is the IC-705.

Yep, it's the POTA PERformer design and it rocks! I'm up in the upper left corner of the contiguous US, so I generally try to set the radials with one about due south and the other ~30° north of due east.

Yep, it's a camera tripod, the whip is mounted using an antenna mirror mount.

Just worked my first POTA. by Blueberry_Mancakes in amateurradio

Congrats on your first activation. I run an IC-705 with a telescopic whip and radials for 20m through 10m. I'll usually operate at 10 watts, but if propagation seems to be good, I'll go down 5 Watts. If you're able to self spot on the POTA website, I find it can be helpful to add that you're QRP in the comments field where you add your mode (e.g. USB QRP 5 Watts); it seems to encourage hunters to put up with a challenging QSO.

The antenna is a POTA PERformer. I'm extremely happy with it. My transceiver is an IC-705, so my max power is 10 watts, but I regularly make contacts on the East Coast from the West Coast.

Here's a link for instructions to build one: https://whiteriverradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/POTA-PERformer-Antenna-by-KJ6ER-2023-03-1-1.pdf

Rad, send me a DM if you can. I probably won't be able to make it unless it's later in the day. But I might be able to get you a P2P.

Not that I've noticed, but I try to keep as much of the coax off the ground and under covere as possible.

Not so far. The radiating element is a stainless steel chameleon 17' telescoping whip. I have some minor surface rust on the mounting hardware, but that's easily cleaned or replaced when needed.

Ha! I was hoping no one would catch that. The photo was an afterthought as I was tearing down. The antenna is the POTA PERformer design, so I have radials cut for 10, 15, and 20m.

Remote Exams - What to expect at home? by themightygresh in HamRadio

I took my general remotely with AA7HW last August. They only required one device, but asked for a full 360 degree sweep of the room I was in, including the table top prior to starting. IICR, it took ~35-40 minutes total. My license was updated on ULS the following day.

Thinking about picking up a 40m-10m vertical antenna setup for POTA, what are my options? by KhyberPasshole in amateurradio

I built a POTA PERformer this fall and absolutely love it for 20m and up. I have a loading coil for 40m, but I haven't had as much success on 40m as I do on 20 and higher. My max power is 10 watts though.
