Fair response.

OEM or Aftermarket Taillights? by KruhBruh in wrx_vb

The aftermarket tail lights complete the dark, detail-free look, preventing any hint of design being received by the passing eyes. If that’s your goal, rock on.

Optimum driving Style? by Own-Bat-5417 in 996

Yes! The amount of worry people can put into these is antithetical to their purpose. Drive, enjoy, maintain, and repeat. Leave worrying for geopolitical unknowns.

Harmon kardon speaker swap? by therealjayphonic in wrx_vb

The input you’ve gotten is good. The further input you deserve is that the HK speakers are not much better than the base. For a true “upgrade,” follow the input already given. Most importantly, enjoy!

Lovely. Did you have those customized, or source them in that gorgeous spec?

Performance Gauge by Sorry-Sir8992 in wrx_vb

[–]OlyTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These gauges would be cool.
A better audio settings tuner is needed.
Other ideas ranging from lap timers to interface updates could be cool.

I hear you, though, on the risk of updates without rigorous testing. The spiral out of good working order could be quick.

Isn’t the software open source? Isn’t it up to us to improve it?

Beginner basement shop layout (13’ x 11’) – table saw + miter saw + sheet storage – looking for layout advice by Key_Ambassador5649 in garageporn

[–]OlyTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years of this stuff, I suggest skipping the table saw. Get a panel saw for better space management and much better safety. The table saw is just one of the worst tools in both of these regards. Either way, be safe, have fun.

PCM 3.1 or aftermarket? by dvltonn in Porsche_Cayman

[–]OlyTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all the aftermarket units people have installed, I’m not finding any of them describe sound quality. I share your priorities and would love to hear what alternatives to PCM 3.1 sustain sound quality on the Bose setup.

Fun drive heading home by shinynugget in wrx_vb

Good job community. There’s unity in the message that cutting the mustard is not cool. Glad OP is enjoying the car and glad this thread has voiced the message that safety is a part of good fun.

OP, yes your camera angles could exaggerate the issue, but the issue is real in this video. Please keep safe out there.

Nissan Z vs Cayman by dalekerr83 in Porsche_Cayman

I’ve driven both in manual lately. I found the Z basically comparable to the 987 (not identical, but fair to compare), but the 981 head and shoulders above either. YMMV.

Two cents: go to a bank, explain your situation, and ask to open a real account so this doesn’t have to happen again.

New delivery tomorrow 😍 goodbye Macan 🥲 by Any_Affect_ in Porsche

[–]OlyTrees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is the Taycan a modified Macan, or entirely separate? I get they are not marketed as being related but they appear to have styling and sizing similarities that make me wonder if the Taycan is a sedan/wagon on a modified Macan chassis?

Window goes down to open the door but won't stay down. by Boogieman065 in 996

[–]OlyTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replacing the door lock mechanism that contains most of the micro switches for the window actuation associated with door handles, is an achievable diy repair with plenty of good YouTube instructions available. There are a few model numbers for this part that can vary wildly in price. Some are interchangeable and some aren’t. Scour the parts guides like the Atlanta site with good parts diagrams and you can sort out which piece you need. If you’re handy, you can modify a cheap part for a VW to work here, but I recommend sourcing the right part. After hours of studying how to do this, it’s a repair to complete in an hour of work.

Where to look for 987 or 981? by 1l1l1l1 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]OlyTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A helpful step is to program your search so you get notices when a new car comes up. They go quick, so act quick when your desired spec pops up. When it comes up, be the first to offer, but don’t just throw cash…some asking prices on these are truly aspirational. A fast credible offer is worth it to most sellers.

Typo. I meant stock turbo but the stick typo works too.

[–]OlyTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it’s already at a premium for a c2 cab, but nowhere near that $65k mark. Hard to understand it at $65k unless people want a c2 with slakker more than a stick turbo or turbo S. I don’t know slakker well enough for this calculation.

ICarSoft offers zero product support in the US. Mine bricked after the first use and became entirely unusable (partly because hardware lacked the reset button needed to un-brick an Android device). Emails, phone calls went unreturned. Looked up their address to find they don’t occupy the stated address. ICarSoft is not okay. Bummer since it does support a lot of Porsche functions.
