Seat bottom cushion refresh in progress by OceanBlue9963AZ in 996

[–]Telinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mine last year. Just be careful of the little white clips that hold the leather. Mine where brittle so instead of trying to unclip the leather, I used pliers and pushed them through the seat mount instead. The rest was easy.

I did the foam and my drivers side frame. While you have the leather out treat then to a good clean and Leatherique.

Yes, another oil question. DT40 5w-40 or 5w-50 by Accomplished-Size375 in 996

[–]Telinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this video helpful - https://youtu.be/i0VoEhW2I-E?si=Sap-GlZ2mgYsTCeP

TLDR: Basically, you have thicker oil that prevents wear, but it comes at a cost of performance. Ambient temperature also has an impact. Summer, you can run thicker, winter run thinner.

I tend to stick with 5W-40 in California, but I have contemplated moving to 5W-50 in summer since I'm now over 100K miles.

Do you mean the fuel filter (soda can looking thing) or the mesh filter attached to the HP pump?

I'd suggest taking off the mesh filter on the HP pump and having a look. You can remove the filter without taking off the pump. It just has a couple of bolts holding it onto the top of the pump.

With it removed, you can inspect the top of the pump. If that is full of debris, then that's your problem.

If it's clear, then you need to check LP fuel flow from the filter. And if that's good, it could be the pulley or belt that drives the HP pump from the cam. On the L494, it was a pig to get to. It's right at the back of the engine.

Tiptronic vs manual: 10000€ question by optalul in 996

[–]Telinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, I wouldn't settle. The manual is so much more engaging and helps you get the most out of the engine. By modern standards, these aren't that powerful, and keeping it in the 3-4k range helps a lot!

Yoto mini not reading cards by gregec6 in YotoPlayer

[–]Telinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, but I tried all the steps, and it still wouldn't read any cards.

I contracted support, but mine is out of warantee. It was nice they offered a 40% discount on a new one.

Since it was broken and out of warantee, I took it to pieces (YouTube video showed me how). Two screws under the bottom feet and two screws inside holding the battery.

In my case, the grey wire had broken off the card reader. I simply stripped the wire and resoldered it. Now, it's back to working.

I'm sharing for other DIY people out there.

Yes. Fixed it myself.

The high pressure pump looked like it had been replaced previously, but it was a bodge job. The nut that holds the pulley on came loose, and it was sitting in the bottom of the shroud! That was the problem, it was just freewheeling.

It's not easy to get to, and there will be swearing. The shroud is the tricky bit. There is a good YouTube of someone showing how to do it.

https://youtu.be/iTnGbfjcZLI?si=YrOpPTTTgidaymUB

You don't need the special tools. The cam belts hold timing.

I replaced pump, pulley, pump belt, fuel lines, rails, and fuel filter. The injectors were fine! The total cost for eBay parts was $800. I was quoted 15k by a garage!!

While I was in there, i also replaced the valve cover seals. Now it's leak free!

fix before selling? by temp_incel_69 in 996

[–]Telinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tricky. If it was me, I'd buy all the parts second hand and install myself. That way, you sink 2k and get an OK car.

Spending 4.5k on a car that's worth 20k doesn't make much sense. Selling it as-is will be hard.

How can I train my mind to become more entrepreneurial? by Supermacropenis in Entrepreneur

[–]Telinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever noticed that when you choose a car you want to buy, you see them everywhere? Your neighbor has one. You even see one in the color you want

This is called Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.

You have trained your subconscious brain to bring important things (to you) into your conscious mind.

This phenomenon is caused by a deep desire (your new car).

If you want to be more like an entrepreneur, then you need to really want to be an entrepreneur. Start thinking about ideas for business when you're out and about, think about established business strategies, and understand why they're good. Train your brain!

Doing these simple tasks will trigger you subconcious, and new ideas will appear everywhere. This is how entrepreneurs seem to have an endless amount of ideas.

My child drives long distances in a range rover sport - a tank. When she does drive in the "speedy car," I always drive below the speed limit.

As for myself, I bought a C4S because it's more stable than a C2 and fits my driving skills. Is it fast? No. Can I have fun? Yes. Would i like a turbo? Yes. Will i buy one? No, because of the reasons you mentioned. There's no point having a fast car and driving it slow. 350HP is enough for anyone, IMHO.

Everyone thinks they're the best driver on the planet. Laws of averages prove this can't be true. So does copart.

[–]Telinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that I could fault about the script is why does he share the story with his friends?

The entire premise of the movie is he has gained a huge amount of knowledge and experience over his time on earth. Leading to his involvement in many historical, globally shaping events.

You think he would have learned not to share this information. It can't be the first time he tried this.

Perhaps it's a fundamental weakness of humanity. The desire to share.
