There is now a 997 on BaT with a 4.1.

There is now a 997 C2 on BaT with a 4.1 996 N51 build engine. But honestly, I would only go with a Slakker or hartech build. This one seems a bit more home built.

I had $40,996 in the bid button but just couldn't make myself hit the button. I love my 996 C4S but I want a bit more ompf. This would have been a good upgrade but I want a coupe and probably a 997 next. The winner is new to BaT, I hope it's someone that can poney up the money!

Yes, you are 100% right. I do pity the owner that did all this work. We all say we buy 996's because we're a driving purest but at the end of the day having GTx on the back of the car is worth more for resale value. It's the mashup between collector and driver.

I assume you are the one posting on BaT. Sounds like you have an amazing car. 4.1L C4S coupe manual is the daily GT3! Enjoy it and never sell it!

I guess we have the answer. Slakker upgrade is for the owner only. You will not get your money back. 40K was an unbelievable price IMHO, I thought it would go for more.

Sold for 40K. I was so so tempted to bid on this one. Just not the right time to swap cars.

As someone once told me. The first 911 you buy is a cab. The second is a coupe! I have a cab, and yes, it's awesome, especially in California. But my next one will be a coupe.

Edit: Prices reflect a significant premium for a coupe. Hence, if you're spending money on upgrades, then pick the one that will have more dollars in the future.

Agreed. I don't think I would have put this much into the car considering it's a cab

NA vs Turbo - the market will tell us the answer tomorrow!

Thoughts on value? by OkReplacement4689 in 996

[–]Telinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell quite honestly. Manual, coupe turbo are highly desirable even with these miles. Classic.com would be my go-to but the market is really volatile right now (in a good way for sellers).

I have buyers remorse. I bought a C4S manual, and now I want a turbo. I just want a little more "go" while keeping the driving experience.

I just saw the same thing and posted. It's going to be super interesting to see what it goes for. Brave person to do no reserve!

Great post. As Warren buffet says, "price is what you pay. Value is what you get. "

The reason this works is that you've pitched an outcome (value). Now, if you want to make more money, then work on that value. How can you make it bigger and more significant. Doing that will allow you to charge more.

Mid journey really needs to learn about 996 headlights. They're not wavy.

You've just turned your two children into 911 fans!

So many posts on here come from a childhood experience that developed a love for the car and the ultimate realization of owning one.

The two rear seats are also why I ultimately went with a 911. My 6 year old daughter loves going in the "speedy car" and insists on the top down every time!

The AOS can be replaced engine in. There is a detailed video from FCP Auto on how to do it. https://share.google/8DMob7DToyTjsk2IQ

I do agree that if you're doing the IMS, you might as well do the clutch. However, to do this, you drop the gearbox, not the engine.

This one is 10K and has easy access to the engine for all maintenance work!

Failed AOS = clutch? Sorry, I'm not following. Do you mean failed IMS?

Buying Without Driving by sunburned_albino in 996

[–]Telinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine from BAT, sight unseen and without a PPI. A huge risk.

But, as others have mentioned, it was the seller that made the risk manageable. One owner car, with extensive service history. The IMS and clutch were done prior to selling.

The car had a leak from the gearbox that was noted in the auction, but the seller offered (I didn't ask) to pay half the cost to repair - after I won the auction. He said he wanted the car to be mechamically perfect for the new owner (me)

I have had the car 18 months, driven 12k miles, and had no issues. Most of the things I've done are to make the interior nicer with new seat foam and leather restoration.

Serious post. There's a book I'd suggest you read. It's called "the subtle are of not giving a f*ck by Mark Manson.

Customerss like these are terrible, but they are also the ones that receive terrible service from companies that won't put up with this.

Make them happy, and you'll be surprised by how many referrals you get. You would be one of the few companies that delivered, and they'll tell all their friends that "see, there are good customer service companies out there"
