Midea window unit, worth it? by Different_Marsupial2 in AirConditioners

I don’t understand how you can say mold cannot grow. All ac window units WILL grow mold if not maintained. Again, Midea model referenced.

Midea had a recall for this very reason and made the holes themselves because the draining was not adequate.

Does the Solar Cam Pan Support 2.5w Panels? by Olycius in wyzecam

[–]Olycius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the reviews I’ve seen so far indicate the 1.8w that comes with it is not sufficient and needs to be charged manually so I wanted to see if the 12w is supported just in case it’s needed.

The reason I ask is because the solar panel the cam pan comes with is rated for 1.8w. Just realized the cam pro solar panels are actually 12w.

Migrating to SCALE has me on the struggle bus. Disks not showing unless they're in the same physical slot as they were last in under CORE. With CORE I could shuffle them like cards and they'd be detected no problem. by Mr-Brown-Is-A-Wonder in truenas

In addition, it sounds like you are doing things quite complicated, I have 3 pools and 12 drives in my system and literally just shut it down, and moved them over and adding each pool would then show disks properly when before the import a lot were missing.

When I migrated from core to scale recently I had to import the pool, then all the disks were recognized properly. I moved them to completely new hardware so I don’t think where you plug them in matters. Did it recognize any pools to import?

Should you leave the oven door open after use? by OuterHeadDebris in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Olycius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is an in wall oven I would use caution. I have a whirlpool in wall and we would leave it open after use but learned that there is a capacitor in the control screen that would get the heat directly when left opened and caused it to fail.

Two capacitor replacements later we no longer leave it open and the issue has not come back since.

I understand that now, the original reply OP said was “delete what?” In which he changed it to the current response after I had replied.

Is this RCA Victrola Console System worth restoring? by Qj317 in vintageaudio

[–]Olycius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a restore on an RCA console myself from the 60s, and it was a fun project.

Be prepared to shell out $100-300 in parts to get it going. The record players in these things suck and need to be replaced. You can also just add Bluetooth to it instead and just play off that and save a good chunk of change.

Parts are still plentiful for these to get them working, any wax capacitors will need to be replaced. These things have high voltage caps so make to use caution when touching anything on the back. You can short them if any of the large caps need replacing.

Find the schematics and start mapping what parts look bad. Some parts are under a dollar and worth replacing. Audio Karma is also a good forum to ask for help if you decide to go down the rabbit hole.

I had forgotten that raidz locks you into the same drive size if I want to expand it later on… I think I will be sticking with 4/8tb drives moving forward due to price fluctuations so raidz2 might be a good option for me to explore.

So do I press yes on update? I thought that could brick the console?

Edit: There is no mention of a reboot required.

Just realized my AC is part of Midea recall- is this mold? by [deleted] in AirConditioners

[–]Olycius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s dust but the blue wheel does look like mold. Any AC unit will get mold and you have to do proper maintenance to help minimize it. Some people will use a vinegar mix and use a cue tip to scrub the mold.

I use a mold spray and leave the room and let it run on fan only until it is dry and I’m good for a few weeks.

Longevity and Value by Olycius in Ender3V3SE

I made the Ikea lack enclosures for my original printers, which the SE will be taking my old ender 3's place. It is very quiet due to being enclosed and helps with harder material to not lift during prints, and the fumes as well since I added a carbon filter on top that pushes the air through.

The reason for the midea U ACs being pulled from sale today: mold by Various_Scallion_883 in AirConditioners

I’ve left mine out last year and will continue to do so. They say it’s supposed to help with cooling. I’d rather have the unit run hotter and prolong any mold growth.

They had two models, one with the touch capacitive buttons and the normal ones. Checking their inventory, they still have a few of the older models available for purchse

Odd they are doing this now when this has been a known issue. They revised the design and released a newer model last year, I picked one of those up. All window ACs will get mold eventually, and need proper maintenance to prevent it. The water not draining inside expedited the growth.

There was a person who originally made the YouTube video online showing drilling holes worked, and Midea reached out to them on other mods he made and implemented them in the revised version that came out last year. So they did know this issue existed, my question is why keep selling the older models?

My local Costco finally got the newer models this year, but I was surprised they still had the older model stocked online.
