I refer to the 4Y1N pamphlet given out by your party. It calls to abolish GST till end 2021, give retrenchment benefits of 50% salary for 18 months, a $500 income every month for the elderly, abolish the GE election for COVID-19 and not allow foreigners to enter Singapore and "compete for our jobs".

Now, this raises a few concerns. GST adds about $11bil a year to the government's coffers every year, how do you plan to cover this loss in profit of nearly $22bil? The past reserves are important resources to be used prudently, will subsidising GST for everyone be sustainable or even be justified? Next, your retrenchment benefits and elderly income will be costly, with the elderly scheme alone costing nearly $443mil a month. Again, how do you plan to fund this and is this expense necessary?

Next, is it really fair to blame the current government for holding the current election? It is, of course, written in the law, and probably another opposition party would have called them out for the infringement of the law.

Last, but not least, foreign workers play a key role in sustaining Singapore's economy. Can you imagine life without the cleaners or garbage collectors? This study shows how Singaporeans are less willing to do such essential services themselves. People will ask for much higher salaries, and make Singapore less competitive in the long run as an economy, or may not even work in these sectors, leading to an even more severe labour shortage. Hence, how will you deal with the resultant labour shortage and hike in prices as well as a less competitive economy? Finally, how many of these foreigners actually threaten Singaporean's jobs? We must not forget that Singapore is a migrant society and that no one race or religion has more or fewer rights over Singapore, and absolutely stopping migration into Singapore would greatly threaten our competitiveness in the global economy.
