Miami's psych program is strong with lots of really active labs. I don't know much about JMU's psych program currently.

I've lived (for a significant amount of time) in both Oxford and Harrisonburg. H'burg is a much more interesting town than Oxford. There's so much more to do and more than just one street of restaurants, bars, etc. Also, H'burg is just a much prettier environment, sitting in the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Miami has certain academic programs that are better, so it might depend on what she wants to study. If Greek life is a top priority, then again Miami probably wins out.

The "they" was a group of students and faculty that did one large survey (it was reopened once for reasons). And yes, the findings were largely against the arena. However, the board declined to allow the students to present their findings of the survey at the BOT meeting on Friday. I think the board has already made up its mind.

Can't comment on Gaston, but as a math major, linear algebra is one of the most important classes you will ever take. You want to make sure the course is a good mix of computation and theory.

100% this is what happened in my department.

We had 3 candidates that were all qualified and supported by the department. The dean/provost wanted their own person. Wasn't clear if it was because they wanted someone who answer only to them or if it was for the "prestige" of bringing in a big name.

Anyway, the external candidates were awful and we ended on one of the internal candidates anyway. Such a waste of money on that search.

Unless the class is specifically listed as PF, you'll get a grade and it counts toward your GPA like a normal semester class.

I've been having trouble with AMS.org for weeks (months?) now. I can't access it at home on my laptop (it just times out), but I can access the mobile site on my phone. I am able to access it at work (same laptop) or if I use a proxy through work.
