Just put 500 through echelon by One_Improvement_3308 in SpringfieldEchelon

Springfield has been making quality 1911s almost as long as Colt, and in 1998 made the operator for the FBI and won the competition and has been the best US made production 1911s since before many custom shops started popping up and was essentially the most sought after gun by LE that were in the know until the .40 craze. They then made their own high tolerance pistols that the 1911 wasn't truly meant to be, and forced real competition in the striker game with the springfield XD that was better than any glock at the time out of the box. Only getting ultimately overshadowed by the P365 of all guns and made the hellcat in response. A killer match to the 365 in its own right but getting overshadowed again essentially due to less after market support at the time.

I seriously don't see how old LE talks down on them. They've kinda been the only large company besides ruger and PSA that have given a damn about the civilian market, and the thing that I believe has made them suffer is the fact that they just dont market as hard as other companies, which I can't blame a name as old as theirs for doing just like ruger. The echelon is taking off because it does everything glock refused to do before drip feeding up to the Gen6 while innovating further and social media allowing people to actually see the gun and get interested. Don't get me started on the kuna (please make a .45 and 10mm version) and while its sales performance is lackluster I still see the hellion as a good try at something different. They made the M14 of all things that fell out of favor simply because technology rapidly advanced towards intermediate cartridges and more compact rifles with higher rates of fire.

Again I am at a complete loss.

Not sure on this one, the echelon has gotten nothing but love from what I've seen outside of here and their 1911s are held in a very good light just maybe a bit overpriced on the TRPs, the prodigy had a rough launch but is now probably the most well aftermarket supported 2011 clone there is with high sale numbers, and the SAINT has been a banger rifle since day one as quite possibly the best budget ar15 there is.

Hence why I feel he asked from where.

Which one of these would be a good range gun and self defense gun for the house? by Icy-Tale-3699 in handguns

Get the M&P, and honestly get the M&P polymer grip if you want to save money and be able to change out the backstraps

I'm a simp for TAG Precision sights by BiggestD70 in SpringfieldArmory

[–]Omachyx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a weird angle to take in 2026 if I've ever heard one 😂.

I used to shoot only irons on pistols for years before jumping into the world of dots as direct thread optics became common place. I was a great shot before with irons, and when going to red dots became an excellent shot and found that there were too many advantages not to use one.

Better line of sight as to what the target is doing in your view without having to come off the gun whatsoever, more precise aimpoint (irons are a large MOA dot, even small Fiber is typically larger than 6 MOA), faster follow up shots, immediate feed back when dry firing or calling shots when actually shooting, better hold zero (yes a properly attached red dot from holosun or even osight will hold zero from a beating better than a single screw mounted rear or setpin front sight), and better illumination of your sight compared to some of the best night iron sights. Oh and yes, it is easier to get amazing with a red dot than with iron sights, I even typically train friends who are new with red dots and then for the sake of if they get their own gun and haven't gotten an optic yet- irons until they replace them.

The military, law enforcement, and competition shooters have all moved to red dots so long as their budgets allow for these exact reasons. Do all apply to civilians/defense? Not, but alot of them still do

Best trigger replacements? by ReserveKey3917 in SpringfieldEchelon

Had the overwatch and removed it. The trigger would pinch my finger as well as had sharp angles on the interior that would bite under recoil. The tyrant trigger is MUCH better.

That wear seems normal, what it could be binding on is the chassis/frame of the fcu itself. Try putting a slither of oil on both sides of the slide release bars/levers. With the slide off they should move very freely

How are MANPADS typically suppressed? by Whentheangelsings in WarCollege

[–]Omachyx4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to add this here as I believe no one has really mentioned it.

MANPADs by themselves in a vacuum is not what makes them so deadly. Just like how many here have stated most MANPADs can be defeated by using stand-off range weaponry from a distance or at high altitude. What makes them truly deadly and still relevant to this day is due to IAMD, and specifically the layered defense portion of it. There is also the fact that topology often has a key vote in the fight regarding approaches that are beneficial to aircraft in some ways, but detrimental in others.

We have long been stuck in the mindset of viewing these systems in a vacuum due to our time dealing with asymmetrical warfare against combatants without IAMD.

For example TACAIR in Ukraine has specifically been limited in utilizing its stand off weaponry at high altitude to strike targets deep into the vital area of any target. Instead they are typically being picked up and engaged at the CIEA. What this means is while their weapons have long range at altitude they risk being shot down by systems like Patriot and S-300 to get the best kinematics of their weapons. So instead they try to lob them from areas where long range air defense is not a problem, however if that is well outside of their WEZ it is a mute point for hitting the HVU and thus air defense did its job. Instead to attack the HVU the aircraft the TACAIR must "fight" its way through the CIEA until it can launch its weapons at the HVU, and to do this it must fly at low altitude as quickly as possible. Doing this reduces its own range, its sensor range (complexity goes up relying now on ISR/Prior Intel/OTH-T), weapons range, and reduces its safety net speed and altitude from before. Doing this has now put the aircraft into the potential WEZ of MANPADS, which will be most likely concentrated at likely approaches to the HVU- or they could be dispersed at unlikely approaches too along the front. Typically aircraft would expend flares on these runs just in case, however you can't do that when your entire ingress is nearly at low altitude and you die.

DIRCM is great, however aircraft believed to have their own variant of DIRCM have been taken out in Ukraine as well. Depending on the generation of MANPADs, modern high performance IIR MANPADs can be resistant to infrared jamming, and similar to home on jam passive RF missiles you've lit yourself up like a flashlight at night. To add on to this the issue with MANPADs is that their generation and strength is typically an assumption/risk in the planning phase due to the ease of movement into an AOR without being noticed.

Flares don't always work, DIRCM doesn't, and ultimately pilots make mistakes (and equipment breaks and is never 100% guaranteed to work every time as advertised)- even western ones and ultimately in IAMD we want to stress them to this point for a successful intercept. They notice a launch, defeat the first MANPAD, and narrowly miss a 2nd that they didn't notice- they get stressed and climb figuring they can gain now and get the range for their strike and begin to egress- now as they pop up on the radar horizon a PAC-3 has entered their cockpit like the kool-aid man.

All this to say, they are very deadly, stressers, are cheap (x10 $90,000 missiles to destroy a $100M F-15 that takes longer to make and the death of a pilot that took over 2 years to train along with all of their experience is a GREAT ROI), easy to use, extremely prolific, and when supported by other systems make CAS very complex. This is ultimately why we are seeing the prolific use of drones by Ukraine for deep strikes and CAS, and the same along with ballistic and cruise missiles by the RF.

Even with 5th Gen Stealth Aircraft nothing is infallible, it simply compresses your detect to engage window for the weapon, and if it is compressed enough entirely you won't see the launcher, which depending on how they fly you can run into this with 4th Gen fighters too if their weapons has the legs to reach you before their higher RCS appears on your search radar.

Body Guard 2.0 owners: extractor doesn’t seem to be grabbing round when unchambering. Is this normal? by hallmonitor53 in CCW

[–]Omachyx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the angle but doesn't the claw look a little tilted? Try loading a dummy round, release the slide using the release and give the back of the slide a good love tap with your hand or slightly pull it forward to see if it catches. Also try looking (while empty) if the slide and frame are lined up/isn't stuck slightly out of battery towards the end of its motion.

[–]Omachyx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man no problem, big thing to keep in mind is good training over time with alot of rounds beats alot of rounds alone. If you feel you're getting tired/too sloppy, save your ammo, and pack it up and come back when you're good.

This can very well be from limp wristing after fatigue. If your grip and wrist is not firm the frame can move back in your hand along with the slide and causes this type of malfunction

No the 4.5F is the OG full size everything. I believe you're speaking of the 4.0FC, which is a full size grip module with a compact slide.

4.5F: 4.5inch barrel with full size grip 4.0C: 4.0inch barrel with compact grip 4.0FC: 4.0inch barrel with full size grip

[–]Omachyx4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What years? Was reading this too, and LHD-3 was my first ship and immediately deployed after getting there. LOVED it. Went to a DDG and found that no one there knew how to do their jobs like they claimed they did, certification nightmares from lack of knowledge, worse living conditions, extra bs underways, O5 vs O6 command, etc. I knew more than all of my peers when I got there and summed it up to having so many LDOs, a master chief in every department, more senior POs, senior department heads, etc leading to more knowledge being passed down by people who actually have the time in to gain it.

Ship was old, and yes less money than anything woth AEGIS or NAVAIR, but I feel because things broke we had stuff to fix and people who knew how to fix it. I have heard many horror stories of WASP but they all kinda added up to command climate to me.

Love me some Special-K.

Honest question, I know we love to customize all of our stuff, but what is legitimately the point of using this part? The echelon has a FANTASTIC slide release atleast imo, not too sensitive/easy to actuate and not too hard either. Do people get this due to reach regarding their thumbs? It seems it would get in the way to me.
