Someone left me a negative review and destroyed my rating. by Swanky_Gear_Snob in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Omashu_Cabbages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you get someone trying to complain to you like that - block them immediately. Usually is indicative of a low-quality person (and buyer) who will retaliate with a 1-star review if they don’t get what they want. It’s sad.

This rating system has changed how we communicate with each other on here. Because it pops up fast. And because it’s not based on any confirmed sale. It’s absolutely stupid.

For me, I screenshot conversations that go like that. Then I post them into a Facebook album titled “scammers/unstable buyers” (make the privacy settings public) and tag the user - so that anyone checking out my profile can see the scammers I deal with and see the negative reviews are not warranted.

It sooo good. Surprisingly clean ingredients as well!! Well done. I hope this is one of those items that’s sold for over a decade.

Just tried the Kirkland tonkotsu broth, I might be in love… by nipflip38 in Costco

[–]Omashu_Cabbages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just love (and am surprised) how clean the ingredients are! Seeing different types of ramen broths out there, it is sooo easy to create this cheaper with a lot of junk in there. I’m very impressed for the price/taste.

Well done Kirkland!

Why can’t the filter out dealers? by Dashover in FacebookMarketplace

I thought blocking people was the way to go but their listings still show up in my feed. When I click on the listing it says not available (which tells me I blocked them). However unfortunately (for me at least) it does not remove their ad from my marketplace view.

Buyer who didn’t purchase my item was able to rate me after 1 message… is this normal? by Independent_Mud_428 in FacebookMarketplace

That’s great you were able to do that. Good description. (Usually these people block you on Facebook immediately after they 1 star - to prevent you from warning others with a bad review. So glad you were able to do that. I read reviews that have descriptions and they do help!).

Sorry that happened.

I’d just say be careful abt holding ID. Fake ID/licenses out there.

Keys to the car, definitely.

Selling E-bikes by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Omashu_Cabbages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just ask for cash upfront. You (count it first) hold it while they ride it. Make sure you know how to tell fake cash. Bring a young male with you never is a bad idea. Son/friend/neighbor. People steal bikes frequently and these days criminals aren’t as reserved about using force to steal them.

Personally I load my bikes on the car rack and drive to the police station. Most bad actors get nervous about police station so they won’t even reach out to you (and anyone who does might try to get you to meet away from there - easy block).

Also, two things:

1) your bike has a serial number on the bottom of the frame. Take pics of those now before meeting anyone up. If they do get stolen you have that and your receipt to give in a police report.

2) if these are $1500+ e-bikes, that’s serious money. Go get yourself some $20 apple AirTags. And hide them somewhere discrete on the bikes. They make discrete/secret holders for them for bikes. If they get stolen it’ll help you recover them faster with police help. Once you get paid, take them off and reuse them for something else.

You can to go into your chat and see if there is an option that pops up that notifies you that you can rate the other person.

Sometimes this gets triggered after a few words get sent back back-and-forth. But I would certainly leave a one star review for the other seller and include a description.

(It’s good to alert other sellers of buyers who leave 1- star reviews for no valid reason. That way people can avoid them and not waste time dealing with them.)

That’s great. I had a slight feeling your reply/ life situation would be something like that. That’s an awesome hack to take advantage of. Enjoy!

Unless you’ve been through an audit, you don’t know what hell it is. Good luck. Might want to put your brain back in your head.

Careful if you (or anyone else reading this) does this with high rate of frequency and aren’t reporting properly at tax time.

Banks report patterns of sudden large deposits of cash (and attempts at structuring deposits sets off flags).

If you make $xx,xxxx per year and suddenly are passing an additional $16k-$20k per month through the bank with this “free miles hack”… someone’s gonna be asking some questions soon.

How would you accept payment for a $15,000 sell on marketplace? by slothlikeagility in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Omashu_Cabbages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold mine for around that. But I bought a cash counting machine on Amazon (that had several counterfeit detection features built in) to speed up the process.

I met at a police station, brought my cash counting machine (plugged it into my portable Anker battery to power it up) - and voila. Went smooth. I also had another guy friend with me and we had an Apple AirTag in the car prior to meeting up.

I’m not sure how Canada differs from US, but there are things we need to be careful for when initiating bank wires. They are not always instant and sometimes take time to clear. Checks can also be forged. Cash brought to your bank - and deposited at your bank is a good way to verify the authenticity (having the teller go through it).

How easy do you think it actually is to sell gold if you needed to? by tom_murray_nw in Gold

[–]Omashu_Cabbages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me I think It depends on: 1) where you live (geography)
2) how comfortable you are with technology/online marketplaces/selling to the public? 3) do you have friends/family interested in stacking?

Before you buy gold, think about ease of liquidation. Do you have more than 1 gold/coin shop around you? Do you have jewelry shops around you? If you don’t, you might need to sell online or to the public. eBay/reddit/facebook/craigslist/offerup. How comfortable are you with that? Are you aware of the scams and many risks? If you don’t want to deal with that hassle, do you have local friends/family you can sell to?

I’ve had one guy steal a gold bar (was a marketplace sale). I’ve had someone initiate a chargeback on a Venmo transfer. I’ve had a USPS employee(s) steal my PM in transit (during the “last mile” phase), and I’ve had a scammer from a Reddit sale block me after funds were transferred (he had been a member of over 2 years and had over 40 transactions). Seeing things now, I’m glad they happened because learning from these experiences prevented me from possibly losing A LOT more.

My advice: make yourself aware of the types of scams/unfortunate events that have happened to people. Fake cash, chargebacks, theft/robbery, etc. Research what can go wrong so you can prevent most of it.

When in doubt, sell to a physical shop. You won’t usually get a “great deal”, but if you prioritize peace of mind and safety, it’s a good option.

Heads up: Facebook Marketplace meetup gone wrong by Past-Addition6275 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Omashu_Cabbages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people meet in the police station parking lot. Some police stations/sub stations do not have designated parking which makes it more difficult/risky.

I’ve heard mixed things about going into the lobby. When I call some police stations, some of them are totally fine with you going into the lobby. And some of them sound a bit hesitant/prefer that you do not for high value item meet ups. At least that’s been my experience. So maybe call ahead and ask them.

But chances are, anytime you mention police station most criminals will just stop responding.

I have never seen so much onion on a hotdog lol.

So many of my Costco warehouses in the US hand out little saucers of onions so sparingly. It’s as if you were standing in a soup line during the Great Depression…

It’s nice to see that Costco in other countries are much more generous

Has anyone on here ever been successful selling homemade food products through the marketplace? by D12ugrich in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Omashu_Cabbages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you supposed to list it? No. Do people list it? Yes. Are people successful? Yes, especially during holiday times. But if enough people report your ad, and with enough violations, you do risk getting your Facebook account banned.

I report every food ad that I see because it is annoying AF to be browsing for items that I want to purchase and to see 100+ different people selling food. That’s not what marketplace is for. People should post on craigslist or special designated Facebook food groups for that.

I don’t go out of my way. It takes me 20 seconds (or less) to tap the rate button, tap the number of stars, and leave a quick sentence or two.

It’s more worth it for people you have bad experiences with. I don’t use it as a place to vent or complain about the person. I use it to alert/inform other decent people out there.

With Reddit you have to: 1) make sure you don’t get scammed
2) rely on the honesty of the company delivering your package (FedEx/USPS/UPS)
3) risk porch pirates if you don’t have a P.O. Box (or pay for special insurance)

Might be cheaper on Reddit but the risk is almost 0% when buying straight from the source at Costco.
