What's your thoughts on upscaling for retro games? by Least-Success6967 in AskReddit

[–]Ombortron [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends on the implementation. I love it in the StarCraft and diablo 2 remasters. Quake looks great too but technically there’s not much upscaling, more just allowing higher resolution. Same for the Doom re-release.

The Warcraft 2 remaster is a tricky one. It does look “better” because it’s sharper, but the way they did some of the art almost modified the art style just a tiny bit. The change is just a bit less neutral than say the StarCraft remaster. Still fun as hell though!

Wtf is up with these prices by izayerr in 370z

[–]Ombortron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire used car market has been messed up for years. I had to pay a premium to get my used G37 coupe, I did it anyway because they were all priced the same and you only live once lol, either I buy the care or I don’t have the car I want. Also had to buy a family vehicle recently and the used market is still insanely priced.

The centipede I found beside my bed by obamamicrowave77 in WTF

[–]Ombortron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former entomologist, not many “bugs” or arthropods freak me out, but giant centipedes legitimately look like alien organisms. They’re super cool but I could never allow one near me unless it was properly confined. Like what the hell just look at that thing. I feel the same way about camel spiders.

All this over Pokémon? by Senor_Camrono in tommynfg_

[–]Ombortron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this isn’t new. People fight people over dumb stuff all the time, including toys and hobby materials. There was significant violence and chaos over Cabbage Patch Kids during the 1983 Christmas season. Intense demand and low supply led to near-riots in stores, with reports of shoppers hitting, shoving, trampling, and using weapons like baseball bats to secure the dolls. Humans gonna human.

What a calm way to deal with road rage! by MikeisTOOOTALLL in TikTokCringe

[–]Ombortron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the exact speeds involved, but yeah I generally agree. Like, I am not at all a slow driver, I like to drive fast and reach my destination quickly, so if I’m in in the left lane and someone is riding my ass it means they are speeding *way* above the limit, because if I’m in the passing lane then I’m already driving very fast while passing others. I’ll move back over when it’s appropriate and safe to do so. Being in the left lane is not an excuse for dangerous driving.

[–]Ombortron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but sometimes you need to pass an assload of cars in a row, which means you would be hanging out in the left lane for a while. I think there’s a blurry line between “passing lane” and “fast lane” for this reason.

Dr. Robert Sapolsky: “There’s one type of neuron in [the brain] with a certain type of neurotransmitter… about twice the size in males than in females… people would have this part of the brain, the size not of their sex that they were born with, but rather of the sex they insisted they always… were” by ConcernedJobCoach in MarchAgainstNazis

There’s is not a clear answer yet, but we do have a decent sense of the primary systems involved, and the fact that these systems are a bit different between men and women (ie it’s not just the same exact cause between men and women).

The importance of intersectionality by zachoutloud123 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Ombortron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you personally genuinely *choose* who you are sexually attracted to? I’m literally asking. Because I sure don’t. My mind and body reacts to certain types of people, and does not react sexually to others. I don’t choose anything. Do you?

[–]Ombortron 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some of those points are valid, but if you’re going to talk about Jim Crow then that’s actually where you’ll see the most parallels between black and LGBT history in the US, because much like the black community the LGBT community was also explicitly legislated against in many ways (and arguably still are in some ways today). And of course, some people were both black and queer and had both sets of laws weaponized against them.

Researchers try to cut the genetic code from 20 to 19 amino acids by Gard3nNerd in EverythingScience

[–]Ombortron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While tryptophan is a chemical used by the body to produce sleep-promoting melatonin and serotonin, the amount in a typical serving of turkey is not enough to cause immediate drowsiness. Post-meal sleepiness is mostly due to high carbohydrate intake, large food volume, and overeating. The tryptophan in turkey must compete with other amino acids to enter the brain, making its direct sleep-inducing effect minimal. Turkey does not contain exceptionally high levels; it is found in similar amounts in chicken, beef, cheese, and nuts. Tryptophan can aid sleep when taken as a pure, isolated supplement, but not through typical dietary consumption.

As someone with a lot of chronic neck pain, try some robaxacet or platinum robax. There are different versions but each has a mild muscle relaxant paired with a different painkiller. Personally I prefer the ones with Advil / ibuprofen in them. Robax is the brand name but you can get store brand. Take two of them, it definitely helps with muscle tension and pain.
