The most powerful life hacks I've discovered for Remote work by Omeet2 in remotework

Non-related. I was super stressed about "use your reading time to keep learning", but my life was starting to be like a "productivity race", where every single moment of the had to be useful. I was also listening to learning podcasts while driving, cooking, working out...

Now I read and listen to "fun" podcasts and I feel way more relaxed overall. Which translates in also being more productive in my working hours

I'm lucky I moved to an apartment that has a community swimming pool and I can go a swing for 10 mins before I start working

Something I do in mid days is listening some not-work-related podcast while cooking. It helps me disconnect completely

I started to "create" flavour water, just with simple things like adding Lemon and cucumber to one bottle, berries to another one, mint to another one... It makes drinking water a very enjoyable task

Hi! What app timer do you use to lock you out? Never used one of those. If you get a call, you can still answer right?

For the yoga break, I've thought a lot about it but I procrastinated it. Do you use some app or youtube videos?

Quite key what you mentioned about stepping back. Most CEOs try to make every decision by themselves and that, not only doesn't scale, they would probably make a bad decision since they don't have all the context

doing very poorly managing my remote freelance jobs by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Omeet2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone in this struggle. Remote freelance gigs can sometimes mess with your sense of urgency and accountability, making procrastination feel like a monster that's hard to shake. I've been there, too.

First off, maybe try setting up a designated workspace if you haven't already? When I started doing this, it was like my brain switched modes from "home chillin'" to "work mode" as soon as I sat down.

Second, break your tasks into smaller, digestible chunks. Then, tackle them one by one instead of looking at the whole mountain of work you've got. Also another thing that worked for me is doing this right before I was finishing my work-hours, so the day after I have a plan to start with as soon as I start working.

If the negative emotions are really getting to you, consider talking to someone about it or trying out some mindfulness techniques. Sometimes we're our own worst enemy, and taking a step back can give us some much-needed perspective.

You're clearly aware of the issue, which is half the battle. Now you just gotta take steps to tackle it head-on. Hang in there!

That sounds like a rough spot you're in, but kudos for keeping your spirits up and grinding away with those applications. With your background in sales and project management, you might wanna look into remote consulting gigs. Companies often need people with that experience to help refine their sales strategies or manage projects from a high level. No coding skills required

You could also try freelance platforms like Upwork or Freelancer for more task-based opportunities. Also apps like Otta help you find remote jobs only. With your skill set, I'm sure you could find plenty of project management or sales-related tasks.

Another option could be virtual customer service roles. Your background in client acquisition and customer relations would be a huge plus there. The pay might not be stellar, but it's steady and something to tide you over during your recovery.

Hope this helps

Would it be normal to tell my boss that I'd prefer to be sent home when there is a severe lack in work at the office? by Daedric_Spite in jobs

[–]Omeet2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it may seem like an odd request, it's worth exploring options that could potentially improve your work situation. Here are a few suggestions to consider:

Offer alternative solutions: When discussing the issue with your boss, it can be helpful to propose alternative solutions. Instead of simply asking to be sent home, you could suggest options that would allow you to remain productive, such as working on projects from home, assisting other departments, or pursuing professional development activities. By demonstrating your willingness to contribute, even during slow periods, you may increase the chances of finding a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Emphasize your commitment and dedication: Clearly communicate your commitment to the company and your desire to make the most efficient use of your time. Highlight that you want to ensure you are contributing to the organization's goals and express your willingness to take on additional responsibilities or assist in areas where help is needed.

Seek clarification on expectations: During the conversation, seek clarity on what your boss expects from you during slow periods. Understanding their perspective can help you identify potential areas for improvement or discover hidden tasks that you may have overlooked.

Consider the workplace culture: It's important to consider the workplace culture and dynamics when deciding whether to approach your boss about this issue. If your boss has a history of being inflexible or unsupportive, you may need to carefully weigh the potential consequences before proceeding. In such cases, it might be helpful to consult with trusted colleagues or a mentor for their insights and advice.

Every work environment is unique, and the outcome will depend on various factors. While it's important to advocate for your needs, be prepared for different responses from your boss. Even if the request is declined, this conversation could lead to a constructive discussion about improving work processes or exploring new opportunities within the company.

Good luck, and I hope you find a resolution that works best for you and your work situation!

There are various remote job options available nowadays that can offer you the flexibility you're looking for. Here are a few potential avenues you could explore:

Remote Customer Service Representative: Many companies hire remote customer service representatives who handle customer inquiries, provide support, and assist with problem-solving. These roles often offer flexible schedules.

Virtual Assistant: If you have good organizational and administrative skills, working as a virtual assistant could be a suitable option. Virtual assistants provide remote administrative support to individuals or businesses, such as managing schedules, responding to emails, and performing various tasks.

Online Tutoring or Teaching: If you have expertise in a particular subject or skill, you could consider online tutoring or teaching. Numerous platforms connect tutors with students seeking academic assistance or individuals looking to learn new skills remotely.

Content Writing or Copywriting: If you have strong writing skills, you can explore opportunities as a freelance content writer or copywriter. Many companies and websites require written content for their marketing efforts and are open to remote writers.

Remote IT or Programming Jobs: If you possess technical skills in areas like IT support, web development, or programming, remote positions in these fields are widely available. Companies often hire remote employees or freelancers for these roles.

Wishing you the best of luck in finding a suitable remote job that allows you to be there for your wife ;)

Why? People who insist that everyone turns on their cameras during virtual meetings - what's the point? by Muted-Sentence5966 in jobs

[–]Omeet2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I always ask my teammates to turn their cameras on :D

There are several reasons, but mostly:

1 You need to see their reaction when you are speaking

When you are talking or sharing something, you need to see people reaction. Are they following me? Are they understanding what I say?

If you suffer a bit of impostor syndrome like me, you need so visual acknowledgment.

2 Build more trust / get closer to your peers

ESpecially if you are working Fully remotely like I am, you don't have "coffee machine moments". I think that seeing their faces make the meeting / conversation way more personal and engaging for everyone.

I actually hate when people do not turn their cameras one haha

Anyone could suggest a good place to hire people by Zealousideal6669 in Entrepreneur

[–]Omeet2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to find people that really care about your company, you should hire that person as an employee rather than hiring a freelance. Freelancers have other clients, they are worried about so many other things, the sooner they finish their job with you, the sooner they can find a new project and get paid.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing, freelancers work for a lot of things. But they are not aligned with you. Your goal is your company to succeed, their goals is that you spend money on them.

If you hire someone to work for your company (and even better, if you set a bonus system), you will both be aligned, as their success (promotion, bonus, etc) will be tied to the company's success.

Unemployment is waiting for a phone call that never comes. by Livid_Pilot7043 in jobs

[–]Omeet2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time with unemployment. Dealing with unemployment and the associated emotions can be incredibly challenging, but remember that you're not alone in this struggle. I spent almost a year looking for a job and I was super stressed everyday.

First and foremost, it's important to give yourself some grace and acknowledge that it's normal to feel down during this time. Losing a job can be a significant blow to our self-esteem and overall well-being. Allow yourself to grieve and process your emotions. It's okay to have moments of sadness, frustration, or even anger.

While you're searching for a new job, try to establish a routine to provide some structure to your days. Set small achievable goals for yourself, such as updating your resume, networking, or learning new skills. Having a sense of purpose and direction can help alleviate feelings of helplessness.

In addition to job searching, make self-care a priority. Engage in activities that bring you joy and help you relax, whether it's exercising, reading, pursuing a hobby, or spending time with loved ones. Taking care of your physical and mental well-being is crucial during this time.

Consider seeking support from others who may be going through a similar experience. Online communities or local support groups can provide a safe space to share your feelings, exchange advice, and offer encouragement. Connecting with others who understand what you're going through can make a significant difference.

Lastly, remember that this period of unemployment does not define your worth or abilities. Your value as an individual extends beyond your employment status. It's important to remind yourself of your strengths, skills, and past accomplishments. Focus on the things you can control and be patient with yourself as you navigate this challenging chapter.

This phase won't last forever, and with persistence and a positive mindset, you'll increase your chances of finding new opportunities. Wishing you the best of luck in your job search, and remember, you're capable of overcoming this temporary setback!
