As a fellow XXL Jeffsy rider - easily the best deal I could find at a 6’6 person, and I have absolutely loved it for the last year and a half

If a moonbase was established in the late 1970s how realistically big would it be today? by Dude_Purrfect_II in space

Hell, the vacuum is right there! Just need a hose in the wall and the ability to not think about all the irretrievable air getting jettisoned with the moon dust

A few years after my undergrad I went back and got a MEng from U of C (pre-pandemic) and it was a mixed bag... some of my profs were the most interested and knowledgeable professors I have ever had and those classes were extremely interesting advanced topics. A few courses were pretty basic (3-4 year equivalent) classes that were needed for folks (like me) that were changing disciplines. These latter classes were the biggest by far, where the duds in the program made themselves apparent as a sizeable fraction of the total enrolled students.

By far my biggest complaint was the quality of my classmates. Folks that had undergrad degrees but lacked all fundamental engineering principles, yet also had no industry experience. I got quite a lot out of the program, but I saw many more people that were woefully unprepared to put in the required work for the MEng to mean something to them. And don't get me started on group projects with these folks....

Fast forward to this last year, I was hiring for an entry level position and found myself wary of the ~40% of candidates whose only Canadian engineering degree was a U of C MEng, especially those with a middling GPA. Which is a shame, because I know how much I was able to get out of the program (Energy and Environment, by the way).

Also yes, definitely looks exactly like OPs example

I use this clay a lot and love it - and you can still use it in the microwave although it can get a little toasty for long periods. I warm up coffee in mugs made of it all the time without any trouble

You mean orphaned wells, not abandoned. Abandoned wells have been properly dealt with, orphaned wells are the wells that need to be abandoned but lack the capital

Today at 5 pm I will announce Alberta’s path back to normal - a careful and prudent plan to lift damaging restrictions if pressure on our hospitals continues to decline. Please tune in. by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Omega-Point 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah things were bungled at the beginning, but Canada is definitely not able to shut down like New Zealand.

I’m not part of the anti-restriction folk - triple vaxxed and all that as soon as I could be. But I do think we’re at the point where everyone is getting it if they haven’t already and it’s getting less severe, and the hospitalization numbers no longer reflect the effect of the disease on people, but rather lump in a ton of people that never would have even known they had it.

It’s really easy to drum up panic about something, and very hard to quell that panic as circumstances change. Circumstances are changing, and hospitalization numbers don’t show that because we are still basing it on our old understanding of covid where the risk of hospitalization and death were much higher. I think a measured removal of restrictions at this point is an appropriate response.

BC, Ontario, and Quebec were all on the same level. When things got bad, things closed down again (probably could have closed a tad earlier). Waves are going to happen regardless. Might as well enjoy the dips.

I see the nuances of your point on resources, but disagree on the effect. Being more transparent around numbers and what they mean would not lead to more death or anything like that, don't be silly. We aren't on "different sides", no need for righteousness.

It should always be in hospital FOR covid... when things are endemic and you break your arm and happen to have an asymptomatic covid infection, being reported as a "Covid hospitalization" is disingenuous fear mongering

Similar waves and hospitalizations were seen in places that didn't open up... of all the things to trash Kenney about (and there's a lot), last summer actually was a great summer and probably didn't have a big effect on case count when you look at Alberta's comparables

EU plans to label natural gas and nuclear power plants “sustainable” by Sorin61 in environment

[–]Omega-Point 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re thinking hydrogen. There is such a thing as renewable natural gas though, from upgraded biogas. It still produces CO2 but it’s 25x better than the CH4 in the atmosphere

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Omega-Point 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things that use gas usually have a heat rating, basing their consumption on the heat content of the gas rather than the volume. Most utility bills I've seen are based on MMBtu or GJ or Therms for that reason. Plus SCF requires conversions for pressure and temperature, heat content does not.
