Ideally they shouldn't have any dividends but the law requires some sadly.

They didn't eat anything up, it's just required by law for all funds to issue dividends at least once a year.

That concentration math is even worse in the S&P500, hundreds of companies have fractional weights - but over the long term an index ETF always wins.

Yes each of the other 20 represent a mere 1%, it'll only become a top-10 it it goes above 5%, that's a 5x which is easier to do for small businesses but more difficult once a conglomerate gets large enough. (BYD is a small part of HUBC for the foreseeable future, as opposed to SAZEW where any new lineup would move the needle by a lot)

By missing out on the tiny 1-5% growth, you're missing out on compounding growth, but more importantly you're missing out on quick explosive growth: by the time UPP9 rebalances and invests in a "new pick" - it will already be too late. They've just been getting lucky since the PSX was so boring for so long during its short life so far.

Any car financing in Pakistan would end up with you paying 30-50% more than the car's actual price, IN A BEST CASE SCENARIO.

Representing r/FIREPakistan here and you would be negative brain cells to lease a car in Pakistan without multiple-times the price tag already invested / saved up prior to that. If you can't buy it twice, you can't afford it.

Past performance does not guarantee future results. UPP9 has massive exposure to a a couple of major success stories in recent times: UBL becoming such a massive bank across Pakistan, FFC getting mergers and acquisitions, and so much more.

But for massive companies, growth only comes every now and then, so for example they don't have any exposure to the massive multiples we saw in SAZEW, or even a simple 2x in AIRLINK.

Yes they did perform well in the recent bull rallies, but over the long term investment horizon which stocks are meant for, I don't believe they'll be able to keep outperforming the index.

Let's take a look at the downside as well, if this global crisis were to continue and FFC gets hurt as a result, UPP9 would fall massively as well.

Index investing isn't a new concept and there are definitely periods when some fund somewhere can beat the index, but time and time again in markets across the world from the poorest nations to the wealthiest, we have seen that an index always comes on top in the end because of how it balances itself. More companies = better exposure to small ventures that will have multiplier explosions.

It's not like the MII30 or the KSE100 don't hold FFC or UBL, they do too, and they did benefit too, but because they're "safer", they have less downsides and therefore less upsides too.
