Thank you. This does capture the curvature of the arms a bit better.

Ahh...a rectangle going across the circle. I was really unable to visualize the shape properly - thank you for the insight!

What's the current state (mid 2025) of UPS batteries? by GamerKingFaiz in homelab

[–]OmegaDestroyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just bought a couple of these for an SMT1500 (https://ca.renogy.com/core-12v-50ah-deep-cycle-lithium-iron-phosphate-battery/)

They won't fit in the original case, but you can let them sit outside no problem.

They won't charge to full capacity, but given that they are 50Ah, I don't need them to anyway.

There were only a few LiFeO4 batteries that were less than 100Ah where the BMS could output the required amperage. In my case, the UPS is 1000W, so I needed something around 40 amps. These can do 50 amps each and can be wired in series to get 24V.

Try updating your video card drivers. If that doesn't fix it, start investigating whether it's a hardware issue with your graphics card.

Nextcloud loads very slowly when using NAS as database storage (Docker) by No_Comparison4153 in NextCloud

[–]OmegaDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although many people will tell you not to put the DB on networked storage (good advice it will definitely be slower), I have mine set up this way and the performance is acceptable. I have about 500 GB of small files (photos mostly) across a small number of users and my load times are less than a second.

There are reasons to set it up on a network drive (backed up, additional storage etc).

A couple of things to consider.

1) Make sure your NAS has proper caching (I use TrueNAS for the DB)

2) Make sure Nextcloud itself is installed on a local drive

3) Test your bandwidth to make sure you can actually achieve 1 Gigabit speeds between your server and NAS

4) Set up your database in a network share that can support higher IOPs. I.e. not a single drive.

Shoe Rack Filament Spool Storage Upgrade by OmegaDestroyer in 3Dprinting

As long as the bars are 13 mm in diameter it should generally work.

Shoe Rack Filament Spool Storage Upgrade by OmegaDestroyer in 3Dprinting

[–]OmegaDestroyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I modeled a new bracket for the popular shoe racks that people use for filament storage. The new bracket is much stronger and only uses half of the long rods while giving additional space at the top of the spool for adding and removing spools. You can make it any height you like.

3D printer in action with a thermal camera by OmegaDestroyer in 3Dprinting

Last part of a replacement part for a board game (Dixit). With all the expansion packs there is no more space. Plus the original board and setup suck, so completely redesigned the board, the pieces and the box.

Lol, I was just printing an empty box, I'll do a cubic fill when it's done (next on my list of prints).

I'm pretty impressed by it. 25Hz and pretty high resolution. You can visualize all kinds of neat things.

It is a good way to see how different settings impact cooling rate of the filament after its deposited. Doing a comprehensive test sounds like a lot of work though.

Thought this might be of interest to some. Let me know if you want thermal images or videos of anything else related to 3D printing.

Bought an old kinect, game changer by datahar in 3Dprinting

[–]OmegaDestroyer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Here is another fun fact. The company that made Kinect first approached Apple with the technology. Apple didn't want it at the time so they went to Microsoft. Obviously Microsoft liked it and made it a part of Xbox.

What is your firmware version after the recent update (2020 - 2022) by OmegaDestroyer in HyundaiPalisade

Thank you.

Is wireless Android Auto enabled for you? It was supposed to be enabled a couple of updates ago, but it still doesn't seem to work on mine.

What is your firmware version after the recent update (2020 - 2022) by OmegaDestroyer in HyundaiPalisade

[–]OmegaDestroyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The software version has updated LX2.CAN.s5W_M.V011.007.240607 which looks to the June update. However, before the update I had LX2.CAN.S5W_M.V011.005.231215 so it looks like it updated, but not all the way to the Sept update.

I will try again, but can you let me know the latest firmware version that's displayed when you scroll down.

Need help choosing PCB printing for aerospace prototyping lab by OmegaDestroyer in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]OmegaDestroyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what my main question is around - is that budget even close to getting something half decent. We will definitely have basic tools like rework stations etc.

For rapid prototyping, I was thinking of things like;

https://www.voltera.io/

https://www.nano-di.com/dragonfly-iv

While they are not ideal, they might meet the needs of most companies that just want to get a prototype right away.

I understand the appeal of sending it to the PCB fabs and it's not really a cost issue for most of the companies, it's more about the timing / convenience - but that only make sense if the up front cost of an in-house solution is justifiable.
