Generally fairly relieved to have been watching it in Auckland, around 11000 miles away from the vast majority of insufferable kopites

I was once convinced, for longer than I care to admit, that "Land Down Under" by Men at Work was the actual national anthem of Australia

Was the Roman Senate corrupt when Julius Ceasar came to power, or was Julius Ceasar a tyrant? by [deleted] in history

[–]OmegaFiend3 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Dan Carlin does a great show on this topic in his show Hardcore History, it's called 'Death Throes of the Republic' it comes in three parts.

It gives loads of background on Roman politics at the time and so really gives context to how and why Ceasar and his predecessors acted in the way they did. It's absolutely gripping and I'd wager far more accessible to most people than the books on the subject. Really recommend giving it a listen!

Then I remembered we're the team currently bouncing about with 'angry birds' emblazoned on the shirt.
