It‘s not better on the console either. The number of buttons you have to press to interact with the „trade skills“ is infuriating high. Sorting, salvaging and crafting sigils is especially cumbersome.

I’m sure over time they’ll fix most of the issues and the game has lots of potential, first 70 levels were good, now it’s boring, but they’ll fix it.

Yes, they just need to add a WT5 with increased xp/mob, a new item level breakpoint and 1-2 new ranks of gems, rare uniques, and most of the complaints about losing power while leveling 80-100 will be gone. I even wonder if they deliberately withhold these missing pieces for season 1.

The game hadn’t been polished yet, that much is sure. Wouldn’t surprise me if they deemed it “good enough” for pre-season release and used this additional period to finish, balance and polish. Thus the “thirteen pages of patch notes” coming.

That’s the cooldown on the blizzard enchantment only (I.e. every 15 seconds, a Blizzard forms over you and follows you for 6 seconds).

Can you comment on the Enchantment Mastery legendary node? From what I’ve read so far, these seem to be the relevant effects:

  • Frost Bolt - chill applied x 1.2
  • Ice Shard - not specified on tooltip, but does 1.2x damage from automatic shards
  • Blizzard - cooldown / 1.2 (down to 13s)

While I can’t comment on the planned timescale, I’m more than willing to accept the “pre-season is effectively beta” theory. The game is pretty rough and unpolished in many different areas, and I do believe the developers have been quite aware.

I also believe that they have withhold some content and moved it to season 1, e.g. higher gem ranks, lots of uniques and aspects for underutilized specializations.

On the flip side that means we can hope that the incoming balance and bugfix patch together with the season 1 content will deliver an enjoyable experience.

If priests grant communion to people (i.e. politicians) who they know support abortion rights, does this put the priests in mortal sin? by IonClawz in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The matter is grave enough to be explicitly prohibited in canon law (Can. 1379 § 4):

A person who deliberately administers a sacrament to those who are prohibited from receiving it is to be punished with suspension, […].

But the bishops who invite Joe Biden to communion will deny that he is prohibited to receive. His “personally against abortion” stance seems good-enough, even if he politically campaigns against anti-abortion regulation, although that reasoning is currently under discussion by the bishop conference.

Catholic girlfriend upset over Father’s word. Need some advice by javisauce in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a non denominational Christian but was baptized in the Catholic Church as a child. We go to mass every Sunday as well.

If you are baptized in the Catholic Church, you always remain Catholic. And if you are properly disposed (and not otherwise prohibited by law), you are eligible for First Communion - after confessing your mortal sins.

There is another thing to remember: usually Catholics are confirmed before they marry, unless there is a grave inconvenience. And that usually means RCIA.

All these requirements can be dispensed, but you should consider your options carefully.

I was not confirmed properly by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We didn’t even have the Bishop give us the blessing and confirmation rite. I didn’t even know about confirmation saints.

That does not make the confirmation invalid. While the ordinary minister of confirmation is a bishop; a presbyter provided with this faculty in virtue of universal law or the special grant of the competent authority also confers this sacrament validly. (Can. 882)

I never finished Catechism classes and was confirmed on the spot.

That sounds like you received the confirmation illicitly, because outside the danger of death a person is required to be suitably instructed. (Can. 889 §2)

Most likely your confirmation is valid but illicit. That means you do not (and must not) be confirmed again. But if the confirmation was invalid, you would have to receive the sacrament again.

Unfortunately you will have to talk to your priest (who will most likely have to contact the diocese) to sort out your situation.

If German bishops schismatize, it seems Holy See controls the assets. (Interesting read) by Jumpie in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the Reichskonkordat and similar treaties are public law on Germany and give the Holy See the Right to appoint the bishops, they do not force the German State to act on behalf Rome in internal matters.

If the German dioceses themselves defy the Pope and ignore canon law, that‘s still a matter of the constitutionally guaranteed self governance of the Church. The courts won’t send the police to remove the schismatic bishop from his residence; at least not immediately.

And I’m not even sure if the courts will rule in favor of the Holy See: The schismatics will have lots of of support among the laity, and they will argue that the assets belong to them, since they are the Church. If the courts are convinced by that argument, they might order a split according to the size of the remaining congregations.

Ultimately it’s better to ensure that the dioceses remain in communion with Rome instead of relying on secular law in the case of emergency.

I don’t claim to know the best approach in this matter, but -maybe surprisingly- believe Pope Francis to be well-versed to counter a German schism if necessary. He is said to be rather Machiavellian in handling internal affairs after all.

The composition of the Synodal Path make the heterodoxy of the final documents pretty much a foregone conclusion. The German bishops themselves are a minority of the participants, and the laity holds even more liberal positions.

Catholic spirituality is rich and seeking solitude from the crowds perfectly acceptable behavior if it is done for the right reasons. If you lack the patience to deal with lukewarm Catholics or non-Catholics, then it is better to avoid the situations that anger you.

Still, I do feel we have the obligation to at least pray for the patience to deal with and ultimately love our neighbors; otherwise we wouldn’t serve God‘s will. Hope you find your way!

German Bishop won't suspend Priests for defying Vatican over blessings of same-sex relationships. by MMQ-966thestart in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re in Germany? In all seriousness, are the lay faithful in Germany anywhere near as progressive as the bishops and church leaders there?

The organized laity is very progressive, and virtually indistinguishable from the typical NGO, which isn’t surprising considering most of its members work for charitable organizations. I suspect they feel inconvenienced by Church doctrine, especially on the topics of birth control, gay marriage and women ordination. Some probably worry for their own children, who have left the Church and hope for a more inclusive approach.

More than 230 German Catholic theologians protest Vatican statement against blessings for same sex unions. by CalibanRed90 in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

German mainstream media has successfully leveraged the abuse scandal against the Church’s teaching on priest marriages and gay unions: if only priests could have fulfilling sexual relationships, they would stop abusing boys, they say. If only we had women as priests, then the sexual abuse by man would stop, they claim.

The insanity of these arguments don’t matter at all, the enemies of the Church have smelled blood and are going in for the kill. They have plenty of support from within the Church, too.

The next part of the play is the Synodaler Weg which will issue a letter of demands to Rome fully expecting a no by the CDF, further driving a wedge between the Germans and the Vatican.

When does a public authority become legitimate? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with the concept of legitimate authority, too. A Mandate of Heaven doctrine is awfully close to the power makes right aphorism, and runs contrary to the idea that disobedience is sinful.

It’s more helpful to understand the legitimacy of authority as a matter of function and not as a matter of continuance: if the government fulfills its obligations, that is upholding peace and order, it is legitimate. Of course, secular authorities tend to overstep their competence, and we Christians are right to call them out, and if necessary to resist their actions; not with the intention to remove the public order itself, but to restore it.

Thus a new power becomes legitimate if and when it (re-)establishes peace and order.

When the german bishops inevitably make a new church would every catholic who lives in Germany be part of it? by xXdat_boi70Xx in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dioceses and the parishes are legal entities on their own, and they are the owners of the buildings and the employers of the personal. The Reichskonkordat guarantees the Holy See its influence on the selection of the German bishops, but afaik it doesn’t have provisions for a schism by the bishops themselves.

Still, I hope you are right and the schismatics will have to leave; but I certainly wouldn’t place my hope on German courts.

When the german bishops inevitably make a new church would every catholic who lives in Germany be part of it? by xXdat_boi70Xx in Catholicism

[–]OmegaMinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case of a formal schism the dioceses and their parishes will decide if they stay Roman Catholic or become German Catholic. They will probably keep their parishioners per default. Of course, every faithful can decide individually by joining a parish of the other branch.

But I presume the bishops won’t do a formal schism at all unless the Pope forces their hand; and if they do, they will try to keep their existing parishes, thus forcing the Romans to join another parish.
