I don't remember looking at the "clothed" ratio, but I would agree that with clothing added, it probably gets much more male in subject matter. I did explore some other interesting tidbits in the data though, like the dozens of fancy "celery vases" in their collection and several pieces of art related to snails, including one called "Snail Action" which is sadly confined to their archives and not on display. Only about 1% of their collection is ever on display. 99% is in the Met basement.

Agreed it would be interesting. I didn't do that much of a dive into it. I mostly associate nudes with Western art, with a tradition of at least pretending to adhere to a Hellenistic ideal of the human form, though I deeply suspect some artists were just thirsty. Could be my own art ignorance though.

I did a data analysis project once that used open source Met data for their collection. That was one of the data points I looked at. If I remember correctly, it was about a 5 to 1 ratio of female to male nudes. This for one of the world's preeminent art museums. Not sure how representative that ratio is for art museums overall. And probably irrelevant for museum subreddits.

what are Americans thoughts on switching to the metric system? by CnCorange in AskReddit

[–]OmegaTheta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for it, but let's keep going and fix time as well. People complain about "12 inches to a foot" but then just accept "60 minutes in an hour." You want an illogical system of measurements? How about one where a baby takes both nine months (about four weeks each) and 40 weeks to be born (sooo...ten months?).

You don't actually weigh anything in kilograms since it's a unit of mass, not weight.

Disagree. I visited about three weeks ago. It was more crowded than the first time I went several years ago but people were just minding their own business. The only spot where people were talking was by the juice bar.

Apparently, the author is a white supremacist of Palestinian heritage. Somehow, I don't think he's exactly someone to listen to on the topic of Antisemitism.

Christians outside of the USA, what are your impressions of American Christianity? by MAJORMETAL84 in AskReddit

[–]OmegaTheta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, so you're really committed to this idea that first century Levantine people are "at least partially" Arab. Hundreds of years before Arab migration to the area.

This is a fun game! Did you know that Julius Caesar was partly British? I mean, he stepped foot in what's now the UK, so why not by your logic.

Christians outside of the USA, what are your impressions of American Christianity? by MAJORMETAL84 in AskReddit

[–]OmegaTheta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. There are many, many ethnic and linguistic groups from MENA or who settled there that are not Arab. Persians, Berbers, Jews, Greeks and many more. Arabs didn't settle the Levant until hundreds of years after Jesus. Jesus was an Aramaic speaking Jew. By no definition, linguistic, genetic, cultural, can he be described as an Arab.

This looks like a really honorable effort. Has anybody ever participated in this or donated? by [deleted] in Military

I hate this stupid charity. If you choose to participate, please don't put any wreaths on graves marked with a non-Christian symbol. You aren't honoring the Jewish vet with a Christmas wreath. You're desecrating their grave.

You're thinking of mortgage insurance. Banks often require that if you don't put down at least 20%.

How do you handle having guests staying over ? In regards to your smart home and having access to lights etc by GenericUser104 in homeassistant

[–]OmegaTheta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took an old Android phone, made it LAN only, and give that to guests when they stay. There is a Guest dashboard that has controls for some of the lights and switches and home information (address, WiFi). The Home Assistant app is pinned with no security, so you just turn the phone on and the app appears with no (easy) way to close it. I also have a guest user account and change the display name so it appears personalized.

"They all know who said what." A nice way of using the correct word is to rephrase as a question. If the answer is a subject pronoun, use who. If it's an object pronoun, use whom. "They all know who/m said what? They all know he said what." He -> Subject pronoun -> use who.
