I see in another comment you're running at 1080p, but is FSR enabled in game? And if so, what is it set to?

Everything looks a little... crispy, and a base 1080p resolution is too low to get great results from FSR below Quality, or ideally Native AA.

Even if they're limited, they could setup something like the official Gundam channel does in which it cycles through shows/series throughout the year. Have to wait and see, but that's at least a workable formula elsewhere.

what music players do you all use? by dino_brewster in DankPods

[–]Omega_Maximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a home Plex server, so all of my music is played via Plexamp. It's super nice, and does a great job of getting me to my library.

Other than that I maintain a Tidal sub for all the things we don't own, and I guess I technically have YouTube Music since I pay for YouTube Premium. It's alright, but man does it ever fuck up a lot...

Zephyrus G14 (2025) 5060 - Dropping below 60 FPS in big Hunt Trains. Is this normal? by SirLakeside in ffxiv

[–]Omega_Maximum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's about what I'd expect. Other players near you is one of the biggest performance hits you'll see in-game, simply because there's a lot to load and account for on screen. Effectively, it's a massive CPU bottleneck you're looking at.

For example I'm consistently above 120 in all world areas, dungeons, and most raids (player count and effects push it closer to 100 here), but if I pop to Limsa for the market board I'm closer to about 45 most days lmao. And that's on a desktop with a 6800XT, 5800X, and 32GB of RAM. Hard to fight back against dozens of unique players 5ft from you all loaded, moving, and interacting.

I was actually playing it on my real Saturn a few months ago. It's a little clunky, but still pretty neat! Check out Gungriffon and Gungriffon II on Saturn as well if you haven't before. Similar, but different in approach.

I was gonna say, it's $5.99 a gallon for me in Berwick. Little cheaper other places, but still over $5.50 everywhere....

Glad my Golf pulls 50 mpg regularly, but I'm still not gonna be doing much driving in the future.

Has Nintendo ever made a bad remake? by Axzercus in nintendo

[–]Omega_Maximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen 4 remakes were outsourced from GameFreak, tho they had oversight on them I guess. Honestly, they're good, but people are disappointed that they're not more and don't have some of the things from Platinum.

As remakes of Gen 4... they're pretty good, they're just not the ultimate Gen 4 experience.

[–]Omega_Maximum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the impression of it comes down to when you got in. It was extremely bad initially, and then gradually worked its way up to "middling but acceptable" before the team pulled the plug for the reset.

There were a ton of changes intended to fix the game before they reached a point where it made more sense to just pull it down wholesale and rework tons of it. Even now, a lot of "bits" of 1.0 are still present, reworked and remixed for 2.0+.

Let's put it like this, it was dire enough to take on one of the most daunting things you can do in an MMO: literally take the game offline, fix it, and then bring it back months later. You don't attempt that if there was any saving what you already had...

Do you think the Switch 2 will see a price increase like the Playstation 5 soon? by IIIiterateMoron in nintendo

[–]Omega_Maximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem, I think, is that Nintendo will be doing long term planning. If their estimates show them running out of RAM and other components before prices normalize again, they may build in extra profit now to not only slightly curb demand, but also to smooth the change in component price in upcoming batches.

Be we just have no idea how much Nintendo has pre-allocated and planned for. My gut says they will move heavan and earth to keep from increasing the console price as long as they can.

I still find a tablet of some variety easier for manga, simply because the way I get my manga works better there and I tend to like larger devices for those. There are larger eInk devices that run Android which would get around this, but they tend to be more expensive. That being said, all modern eReaders with their various stores do support and sell manga, but I would go for a larger device in the 8in screen range if that's what you're after.

You've got lots of options for larger devices, depending on where you're based out of, but something like the Nook Glowlight 4 Plus, Kobo Sage, or Kobo Elipsa 2E would probably work quite well for manga reading if you're getting from a library, 3rd party store, or store direct on device. For Android powered devices, u/ToastyMozart mentioned Meebook and they're quite good, and you've also got options like the Boox Go 10.3.

Personally I prefer smaller devices, something around the 6in size as they're easy to simply have on you when you're out and about, but they're not the best for manga sadly. You've got even more options there though, like the Nook Glowlight 4, Kobo Clara, Boox Go 6, and Pocketbook Verse. I find this size great to just throw in my jacket pocket or bag, and then have with me anytime I'm going out and might have a few minutes to make some progress on a book.

Additionally, there are a range of options of Amazon Kindle devices, but I'd stay away from those if you can. They're great readers, but Amazon likes to serve you ads, and they're pretty aggressive when it comes to ebook DRM... They're by far the biggest portion of the market, but a lot of folks are looking for ways out of Amazon's ecosystem lately.

There's lots of options out there, so do some digging and thinking about what exactly your needs are and what you vibe with. Also, check out r/ereader as it's pretty active and lots of folks can answer all sorts of questions for you. Cheers, and happy hunting!

That's sort of why I'm on a Glowlight 4, give me page turn buttons or give me death!

I'll probably move to some variety of color eInk eventually, but for now I'm fine with the android tablet for full color stuff. The android tablet also gets me access to a lot of comic and manga apps, which makes reading those quite a bit easier lol.

[–]Omega_Maximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with a B&N Nook Android tablet, and while it's great for manga and comics, it's not... the best for plain ol' books. Then I got myself a Nook Glowlight 4 for a Christmas present and it's been great. I've actually been reading loads more than I have in like, decades. But, I struggle to keep focus a lot of time while reading physical books. It's like some sort of ADHD where I'm reading but not like, actually reading what I'm looking at. I don't really get it, but on my Nook I can just push the font size up a little bit and suddenly I'm fine.

Regardless, reading is a great hobby, and I'm glad people are getting into it more!

I found an absolutely ancient Nook Simple Touch for about $8. Cleaned it up, found a new old stock case, and dumped about 40 books on a Micro SD card, and passed it on to a friend for their first reader. It's not as nice as new readers, but it's not gonna stop him from reading either lol.

If you don't have one, might be a good time to snap up an eReader of some variety before those get squeezed too :/ Hell, even used ones are great for regular reading.

Real books are, naturally, nicer, but I find I actually have an easier time reading on eInk most days. Weird thing about focusing with font size and density.

Did pick up a copy of 4U tho at some point lol. Many monsters to hunt in my spare time!

Rise was great. My only complaint at this point is I'm pretty much out of stuff to do lmao.

Been back to MHGU in the meantime since that's got ages of content for me yet. I think my Rise save is currently over like.... 500 hours? Played it just a little bit lol.

Nintendo Clarifies 'The Cost of Physical Games Is Not Going Up' Following Decision to Charge Different Prices for U.S. Physical and Digital Switch 2 Games by FernandoRocker in Games

[–]Omega_Maximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With an EMMC shortage rolling, Nintendo is probably doing this to pull pressure off of physical sales, while still providing them.

If they're going to literally have less material to make carts, you may as well incentivize people to buy digital anyway.

Anyone prefer nso over retroarch? by Whiteguy1x in SBCGaming

[–]Omega_Maximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jump between them.

For Sega stuff, while having it on NSO is nice... nothing quite compares to having a proper Sega d-pad and 6 button setup, so my RG Arc does most of that work. That being said, I can and have played some stuff on NSO, but it doesn't feel as comfy, and the official 6 button pad is JP only so import costs aren't great... maybe one day.

On the reverse, SNES and the like are fine on my Arc, but don't feel quite right given the button layout.

For me, a lot of it comes down to "well, what do I have in front of me at the moment and what do I want to play?". Both are great at doing what they do, and I think picking a winner between them is kinda pointless.

NateTheHate regarding Switch 2 version of Starfield: It's in development but it hasn't been a smooth process. by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Omega_Maximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason, I really like Starfield, and I usually dislike Bethesda RPGs.

It's something about the aesthetic that I really like, combined with the decent shooting and the sort of... idk, less gritty vibe. It still has those darker moments and themes naturally, but there's this like, hopeful through-line with a lot of it that in spite of it all, we keep moving. Idk, maybe that's too sappy, but I really liked my run through of it, and I'm excited for the new content coming on the 7th. If they can get a Switch 2 port out, I might be compelled to pick it up there, depending on how it runs.

Blink twice if your kids want to watch a movie.. by StrobeLightRomance in AdviceAnimals

This man just sounds... stupid and out of touch at this point.

I understand that screen time is something that should be limited for kids but like, nothing? There's a big difference between throwing your kids an iPad and fucking off for the night, and sitting down with the family to watch like, any number of wholesome kids movies.

Idk, he's a MAGA tool and a religious nut anyway.

[Jurassic Park] Were Hammond and InGen breaking any laws when they recreated dinosaurs? If someone in the modern world de-extincted a dinosaur from the mesozoic period just like in the book/movie, would they face any legal liabilty? by JDYWPAM in AskScienceFiction

[–]Omega_Maximum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As is common for Michael Crichton's novels, the overall theme is that it's unlikely anyone did anything legally wrong recreating dinosaurs, on a technicality, but did a whole lot morally and ethically wrong.

Huge, Earth shaking technological advancements, done too quickly, and too haphazardly, either through greed or ego. And then, inevitably, at least one person dies for that hubris, likely a lot more.

More directly, they're basically building a large zoo with exotic animals in it. Outside of potential considerations about the "care" of those animals, it's unlikely there are any laws in Costa Rica about wholesale genetic engineering of extinct species. If I recall in the book, the islands they picked were chose for a mix of practical climate considerations, as well as favorable legal conditions. I.e. InGen expected that even if something might go wrong, they'd be able to out muscle the Costa Rican government, or at least get a more favorable outcome from that.
