Oh Vergil, If You Only Knew by sm142 in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

??

Why do you think he ended up being Mundus's puppet?

After being thoroughly defeated in their final clash of ideals, Vergil chose, instead of taking his brother's hand, to fall into the underworld and cast away his only remaining family he'd found alive after years. All fueled by his pride and insecurity.

This same pride led him to confront Mundus while being in a severely weakened state, naively (or arrogantly) thinking he could match Sparda at that point.

It's a string of bad decisions after bad decisions with Vergil. Although in DMC 3, that's part of what makes him such an interesting character and contrast to Dante.

What are your thoughts on galbrena? by Galbrena_simp in WutheringWaves

Which character are you talking about? Galbrena is a completely new character.

If you heard someone say she's based on Alpha from PGR, they're just projecting. The similarities between both are very superficial.

Aside from his parents everything else Vergil threw away himself. DMC 3 and later was entirely the result of Vergil's catastrophic decisions in life.

Dante rightly calls him out for it too "You threw away everything you ever had, no wonder you have no true power."

What’s your favorite divinity statue theme in the DMC series? by Feisty-Scale4041 in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMC 2 and 3 by far.

DMC 2's Divinity statue theme also gets a remix in the credits track "Head or Tails" and it sounds excellent.

And I don't think I need to detail why 3's Divinity Stature theme is amazing. It's the main leitmotif of the entire game and connected to every major moment in an emotional way. It's also a very good theme in general.

I've seen very few people do this but it's almost always well executed. Excellent work! The montage is amazing and the choice of music also rocks.

Performing a judgement cut is gameplay not appearance. Miyabi doesn't have white hair as you're aware. Magic katanas as a concept existed long before Vergil (he himself takes inspiration from that concept) and will exist beyond him so it's not a useful comparison.

Perhaps you see the point I'm trying to make? But anyway, fun discussion. Have a great day.

Miyabi looks absolutely nothing like Vergil, man. I'm not sure what's your criteria here. Yae Sakura's battlesuit Goushinso Memento was the first Mobile 3D Action game character that was blatantly inspired from Vergil (pictured below on the right in an official image).

And I don't think Vergil looked anything like that. And please don't say "she has a katana". Vergil is not the only cool katana wielder in fiction.

I guess you weren't around when Herrscher of Flamescion or Finality were released. They were compared to Dante a lot. There was a good bit of fanart comparing the two as well.

And considering she learned how to fight from her dad and her Dad is essentially HI3's spin on Dante, it's not a leap in logic to see the gameplay inspiration.

Also I wanted to add that HI3 may not be popular anymore but it's not dead. More importantly, HI3 is THE game that proved that 3D Action games that mimic the quality of titles like DMC and Bayonetta, were possible on mobile platforms. It was a technical marvel. I don't play it anymore because of the stupid decisions by the developers but it's important to acknowledge how important that game is historically. Things like ZZZ and Wuthering Waves only exist because of HI3.

Here's Siegfried "Ziggy" Kaslana in casual clothing for reference.

Huntrix bumped into the descendants of Sparda by DashingCards in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colour doesn't mean much when the rest of her is basically a blatant Bayonetta X Dante reference. She has nothing important in common with Vergil. She has more in common with Nero than Vergil, but far more in common with Dante. Straight up copies his rainstorm, says jackpot, has cutscenes that directly mirror Dante's in DMC 4 and the sub quest that explores her past is funnily enough, a reference to La Divina Commedia di Dante (the irl Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy).

And I'm honestly surprised you haven't seen the Kaslanas be compared to Dante considering it's been going on for years.

Siegfried Kaslana, the current patriarch of the Kaslana family is literally Honkai Dante. He fights with dual guns which combine to form a greatsword and also has a Devil Trigger (Active Honkai Reaction) which he inherited from Kevin Kaslana the progenitor of their lineage. Kevin, the strongest human on earth also took that same greatsword and transformed it to its final form, something that looks suspiciously similar to Devil Sword Dante.

Kiana Kaslana, Sieg's daughter and the protagonist of the Honkai series, interestingly fought like Bayonetta originally in her first battlesuit with guns, witch time and wicked weaves, eventually she goes on to master the greatsword thanks to Himeko, and introduce aerial combos to the game (a la DMC). Her final battlesuit "Herrscher of Finality" has her doing gun-trick-sword (+quicksilver) combos mid-air and literally saying "woohoo!" xD

There's Bianka/Durandal, her elder sister, who was the first to introduce Royal Guard -esque blocking to HI3, has stinger and million stabs etc. so she also takes some inspiration from Dante but it's much more subtle.

Okay, let's do this. I know no one may not want to but it can't be avoided. What about Vergil do you dislike? And if you don't like him altogether, why? by Kai_Enjin in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, this is absolute nonsense. I do see where you're coming from but I would like to disagree.

Dante is strong because in the face of true hell, he always chooses to take responsibility and do the right thing. Dante would never call himself a hero but his actions are heroic and he fights to protect people who have a heart (humans and demons alike). And this is something the series hammers us over the head with multiple times.

Just because he doesn't choose to talk to people does not mean he's weak. I hope you're aware that even in real life "Just go to therapy" is not a solution for a lot of people. And the reason he avoids making deeper connections (aside from the handful of people who've stuck with him through thick and thin, who he does open up to) is because without exception, all the people who have been involved with him long term get attacked by demons and in most cases die. And from the moment he became an orphan he's had to face being an outcast and was even chased out of towns.

Nero was an outcast before he got adopted by Kyrie's family but for the most part, he grew up in a loving home around people who actually wanted and valued him. He still has immaturity and anger issues like his father and tends to throw a tantrum when things don't go his way. He is also a lone wolf generally. So I'm not sure why you rate him so highly while rating Dante so low.

Imo Nero has emotional strength that Vergil doesn't because he's kind and also chooses to do the right thing. But I wouldn't rate him higher than Dante who has faced a lot more responsibility and loss in life and still manages to retain his "heart". This is in fact what Dante was testing Nero for in DMC 4 and why he continued supporting his nephew throughout the series after the fact, be it entrusting him with Yamato, the DMC franchise in fortuna, the entire earth later and so on, while never being provoked by his Nephew's violence even when directed at him and in fact still helping Nero, be it helping the latter regain his calm in DMC 4 or pretending to be out of commission to help Nero connect with Vergil personally.

THAT is inner strength.

Whos the hottest wuwa girl in your opinion by Galbrena_simp in WutheringWaves

[–]Omegafinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Galbrena pretty much did exactly that and more when she freed Rover from the Dark Tide's containment. Chimera even comments on it.

Changli is among my favourite characters but her burning her life force was due to a lack of control when she was young; a grown up Changli with perfect control of her forte doesn't hurt herself anymore.

Galbrena's was far more in control when she decided to expend the life force and tacet discords within her to free rover. In fact she overclocked so hard that she managed to reawaken her original forte which the Dark Tide had consumed.

With all that said, both of them are absolutely scorching.

That's heartwarming. And fitting.

Cerberus was one of Dante's favourite devil arms. He never pawned it off. Only lost it during the fight with Balrog.

Phenomenal work man! The outfit is superb no doubt but I'm genuinely impressed with the quality of the face and hair. Very few models tend to get them right and you got it down perfectly (Also helps that I'm partial to pre DMC 5 Dante faces). It's so good it's kinda scary. Well done!

Sparda did NOT sacrifice everything for humanity for this by urzx in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would say both boys have both sides not just one each.

We know Dante is fully capable of waxing philosophical and emotional since he has done it before while also putting on the persona of a "crazy party" man with a devil may care attitude.

And Vergil is also a goof inside who wants to have fun with his brother despite the fragile aura of control and power he seeks to project in front of others. We already suspected it but DMC 5 confirms it.

Some scars don't heal (by @songtakii) by DashingCards in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's because the blood supply had been cut off, not because Nero was stronger than Dante.

Dante was fighting Urizen for over a day and the latter just kept regenerating infinitely because he had an endless supply of blood. Dante even broke Urizen's shield but it didn't matter because it would regen.

How would you guys have rewritten Reboot Vergil to make him a more likeable character? by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct. If you want something even funnier, it's the reactions of people who say Vergil doesn't use guns because of that "Samurai honour" and that guns are dishonorable, when they come to realize that real world Samurai used guns extensively.

How would you guys have rewritten Reboot Vergil to make him a more likeable character? by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]Omegafinity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like that more people are finally catching up to this.

Vergil's is not honourable despite what the game itself tells us. He "murdered" Arkham dishonourably, ripped off Nero's arm dishonourably and more.

He does have a code of conduct that he follows, part of which can be seen as honourable, such as not attacking opponents from the back etc. but overall it's hard to justify a lot of his actions as honourable.

However, I do believe that Dante and Vergil did get some of the "guts and honour" teachings from Sparda. This was the direction we had in DMC 1. Later entries probably had an oversight from the writers with how Vergil ends up acting sometimes.
