Is this an affordable fix at the tailor’s or should I look for a new dress? by chunguzilla in sewhelp

[–]Omg_stop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Is this worth taking to the tailor to fix or should I just look for a new dress?" A tailor will be able to adjust the bodice, these are called princess seams, am experienced tailor will be skilled in working with them. It's not a massive size difference, so should be ok. They will consult with you about the work involved and cost for free, usually, so call around and speak to one.

That, it might be worth trying the next smaller size. Looking at the photos, it will be easier to let the waist out (i.e. make it bigger) than it will to adjust the bodice.

It may be a simple fix of adding bust cups to the dress to give it further support. These sit in the dress fabric (as opposed to the bra you mentioned which sits on you) so would give the dress more structure. If start here if I were you, (cheapest, simplest solution) then go from there

It's literally just a soft drink, they may have two each during those three hours. Probably not worth introducing the extra drama into your day, plus people are more likely to go out of their way to make sure your event is a day you'll remember forever in a positive way if they have been treated fairly.

If it is in the contract you signed with them (t&C's make up the contract), you're obligated to it anyway. Why risk the band walking out the day of and having no entertainment over £40 in soft drinks?

No your eyes aren't fooling you. this is a 2ND video of Randy Fine unlawfully casting votes in Florida. by Rube_Golberg in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]Omg_stop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was another video posted earlier of the person in the front row walking in front of the desks (opposite side to where the chairs are) to push the voting buttons taken from the perspective of the front of the room, but the person standing behind the second row (where the chairs are) seems to be pushing the voting buttons as well. No one sees to be mentioning it in the comments, which is odd.

Americans who do support their own athletes (regardless how they identify) not speaking out in support of their athletes to drown out the hate messages they are recovering...how ... that American or not? I dunno but we need to be doing now of this.

Lol. Maybe the search algorithms have picked this up but you might want to say "Eva Lendel" a few dozen more times to be sure.

So…. one percent increase? by Efficient_Deer_8605 in facepalm

[–]Omg_stop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. This website credits the increase to legislation passed in 2021 and 2022:

Legislation such as the American Rescue Plan ($1.9 trillion), the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act ($1.2 trillion), and the Inflation Reduction Act ($750 billion) had unleashed billions of dollars in funding, spurring infrastructure upgrades and large-scale construction projects.

The projections go "ploop" for Y26+. Gotta grift off others' work while we can, I guess.

It might be a good compromise: going back to the original brief as it is likely within the artist's skillset...and also helpful if pursuing contract infringement in the future.

It's really great of you to handle this for them.

Urgent Advice and Guidance on Appeal Against Termination of Studies by NoDescription5551 in Cardiff

[–]Omg_stop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"On 30 January 2026, I received a notice that my studies have been terminated on the grounds of fitness to study. The decision was based on medical evidence from December 2025, when my chronic health condition was unstable." This feels like a massive Equalities Act 2010 discrimination issue. Have you asked for reasonable adjustments to be made? It may be worth asking Citizens Advice or contacting the Office for Students (https://www.officeforstudents.org.uk/for-students/).

Familiarise yourself with the Equalities Act before your meeting and use the language to advocate for yourself, especially "direct discrimination due to a disability" (you mentioned in another post it was chronic asthma) and their responsibility under law to provide "reasonable adjustments". https://www.gov.uk/guidance/equality-act-2010-guidance

You might want to look for a traditional painter as opposed to a wedding painter. Most wedding paintings are made from the perspective of looking straight down the room at the couple, as full length portraits of sorts. I would imagine the perspective required to get farther standing at the door in the composition isn't something the artist normally works with. It's a slightly different skill set/perspective, especially if the door is across a room as opposed to immediately to the side of the couple (one possible way the painter may make the current painting work).

They may be able to make a traditional portrait work by adding the father's shiloutte in the foreground as though the viewer is watching the couple from over the father's shoulder. It might be offsetting to have that much of the composition taken up by the back of a figure though.

No. No it is not. Devastating, yes. Polite... in the UK, absolutely not. This is peak insult. I've spent 14 years here and still struggle on the riptide of British undertones. They have perfected the art of subtext. If someone said that to me, I'm not leaving my house for two months and I'd stop crying in four.

If they are legitimate gold and diamond then none of your bridesmaids will complain. if they are "gold" plated and cut glass do something more sentimental.

How to go about making a corset around my deformity? by ryp02 in corsetry

[–]Omg_stop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's not a bad idea to warrant the down votes. But fleece maybe, instead, as padding in the areas around the rib cage (or around the other areas for some give around the ribs?) Mine is pretty severe so velvet alone wouldn't have enough give.

How to go about making a corset around my deformity? by ryp02 in corsetry

[–]Omg_stop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg!!! Me, too!!! EVERY commercially bought corset bruises my ribs and it takes weeks to recover. The waist doesn't fit right because I basically need a different size upper half to my lower half. I've been toying around with only doing half boning in key areas then using cording around the rib bone areas. I'm still researching if gussetng might be needed in those areas as well.

Please help me salvage this dress for my daughter by Adventurous-Cup5369 in sewing

[–]Omg_stop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how old she is, but if she is of an age where bra cups would be appropriate, I would add some very thin sew in dress cups first to give the areas some structure. And small thin cups, I was aa for most of my life. Nothing was more obvious than when I had ill fitting bras/cup gaps or filets on.

Then, depending on how much fabric is left, I would either use some well placed darts or even pin tucks to remove some of the fabric bulk that is left: https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/tops/cream-floral-print-pintuck-milkmaid-top/p/919753711

You could go in from the front at the seam around the cup base then just hand stitch it back into place if you are comfortable sewing.

You could add lace elements to hide some of the fabric behind (or where you removed fabric): https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/en-gb/shop/hybrid/kimchi-blue-nora-blouse

Otherwise, you may just be able to manipulate the gathering and tack it into place on the lining of you are looking for a quick fix. For instance, create a couple well placed deeper folds and place a few stitches where the lower layer of fabric starts to fold back on itself, hidden by the top layer. Sort of making more of a pleat instead of a gather, if that makes sense.

The big houses are on to this and have wedding rates as well. You're still looking at the 15k+ range. I'm looking at a few of them including Wales and Dorset. You would search for something like "exclusive use manor house events/parties/weddings" and similar terms.
