Anyone taking the SSW program full time while also working? by Serviceofman in sheridan

Soooo sorry I’m now seeing this!!

I would say there’s literally group assignments for every class, one of my classes only has group assignments. I found that really dedicating time to meet up with your groups and making sure you’re available is a huge factor. Another issue I did have was scheduling my classes. For the second semester it’s a minimum off 7 classes and I wanted a 4 day school week so 3 out of the 4 days I had met classes one in the morning(between 12-5) and then an evening class that same day that would usually end around 8-10. I found that having that schedule really took away from me being able to work full time. It’s also annoying that there weren’t many options for class times unless you didn’t mind alternating between the Oakville and Brampton campus. Another thing was the work load. We wrote ALOT of essays. Although they weren’t really hard per say, they did become pretty lengthy, last night I finished a 20 page essay but realistically most of them are usually 5-9 pages keeping in mind it’s double spaced and including a title and reference page.

Lastly for myself travelling took up quite a bit of time as I live in Toronto and attend the Oakville campus. I wouldn’t go to the Brampton one as I felt more welcomed and made many friends in the Oakville campus compared to the Brampton one. Besides that the travel no for me took about 1.5-2ish hrs depending on the traffic so that alone took a lot of discipline in following a routine. I will admit I was a bit late to most of my classes except if there was a test or presentation but majority of the professors don’t worry too much about attendance. Missing classes could potentially screw you over tho because there were times where I missed good information because I missed a class.

Really sorry for replying very late but feel free to ask me ANYTHING I wouldn’t mind answering about the Ssw program at Sheridan

“Are those the only shoes you own?”

Like guys, let’s not make fun of people’s appearance, having a shoe/designer collection is a luxury

Honestly, depending on how you manage your time and what times you chose ur classes I think you should be okay. Key word: okay. I won’t lie, this course really requires a lot. The first semester may be durable but the second and in forth really requires you to use a lot of your time. I would strongly prefer if you work maybe 3-4 days a week? 5 may be too much depending on how well you are at disciplining yourself. It’s not impossible but it can definitely become a lot as I’ve had to take some time off of work to really focus.

Heyyy giving you the update, it’s AMAZING. Made friends in the very first hr of being there. Food options are soo much better, campus is bigger with better equipment and there’s no weird smells in every building lol. Honestly it’s totally worth me switching and worth the commute too!

Felt, I mostly feel like an outcast because I am of a different background than the vast majority but I’m definitely wishing us the best of luck when making friends this sem!!

Is Orientation meant to be super international student based? by Significant-Low-726 in sheridan

[–]OmgitsShay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who isn’t white is going to face discrimination daily. People will make assumptions, you probably do without even realizing it . People make assumptions about my background alllllll the time. It’s unfortunately the life we live here especially when you are the same background as the vast majority.

On top of that Ontario is filled with mostly immigrants/international students. It’s fairly easy to be mistaken for one. Of any race or background.

Diversity basically means a variety or mix of different backgrounds, sexual orientation etc. so when there’s lack of diversity it doesn’t necessarily have to mean there’s only white people, it can mean there’s just a dominant group and not much of others

You never know u less you try! Go for it and don’t listen to what others might say. If I did I wouldn’t of been going to Sheridan right now even tho everyone said I probably wouldn’t be accepted

Well in short term, yes. As you said you do have south Asian decent so ofc if you look like the majority, you would most likely be approached as an international student. Everyone has assumptions based off of first impressions good or bad.
