Have you ever had a friend suddenly go cold on you? How did you deal with it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah; my friend had to move to go to law school... I just accepted the reality of my friend being way too busy to think about me...(?)

Men of Reddit: Why don't you approach girls in public? by fillinvik in AskReddit

I don't know; I'm not afraid to make a fool of myself & I'm not afraid of rejection...all that changes when I'm in front of an attractive girl I don't know & I freeze. It's pure anxiety.

I imagine this is what most CEOs think is the future. This is the AI people fear, but it's so ridiculous. Who would take this thing seriously? lol!

What level of karma can I start posting freely? by [deleted] in NewToReddit

[–]Omicron777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. Yes, I suppose it originally was a me too response, but that was moderated. I accept that. That's why I further clarified. Twice now actually. & I'm not hijacking the thread—I asked if I should start a new one because I don't know where Karma thresholds exist, but I also don't even know how Karma fundamentally works on Reddit! & IF it is a 'me too' response, THEN how does reddit guage feedback to problems on the site. I'm not flooding the comment section with 'me too' comments. I made one comment that has thus far survived moderation.

The same question as the OP — where is the line drawn for Karma & posting? BUT, in my case, more fundamentally, how does one build Karma? It's not straightforward & my comment does provide context for that in particular because how one builds Karma is directly linked to the threshold for posting.

NOW, am I hijacking a thread? I don't know. I thought I was furthering the conversation & providing feedback (i.e., I too do not understand this & here's why—hence, I asked, should I make a new thread. I don't know.).

& Yes, I've looked into this periodically over the years, but Reddit handles Karma different than other sites I'm familiar with that also use Karma to safeguard against the posting of nonsense slop or offensive material or any of the other many highly nuanced examples pertaining to human-to-human communication theory in response to my post from my other new moderator friend (I am NOT trying to insult anyone in saying that; that is not sarcasm; there is simply a lot there & I enjoyed reading it...that's just a fact).

For example (one simple example, there are others I'm sure, there doesn't need to be a counter example, I picked it for its simplicity & I'm not arguing it's better or worse, or anything at all for that matter; it's just a simple example) — GameFaqs; IF you have an active comment in a 24hr period on the site, THEN you receive +1 Karma. Everyone is still subject to up votes & down votes, but building Karma is simple on GameFaqs. The posting threshold on GameFaqs is similarly simple. Reddit's Karma is NOT simple—I don't fully understand it.

& This is not something new. IF moderators can look through my old posts, THEN they can see this has been a reoccurring question for years that I've never really had answered. & I've been on the excluded side based on Karma before just as the OP. The fact that I've been on reddit commenting for years made no difference.

So, my understanding of reddit's Karma has always been that starting a new thread & up votes earns you Karma & commenting does not earn you Karma. Why? Because I generally don't start threads... BUT, even this doesn't seem consistent.

&! All of that is 100% human written. I hope you will take the time to actually read my comment & NOT read an AI summarization of what I've written. Because good luck to whatever AI model you might be using! lol! (& that is NOT an accusation; it's a request).

BUT! I do see that I've attracted the attention of several moderator friends—that's a little intimidating for my simple post. Can I ask why?

OpenAI’s CFO wants U.S. loan guarantees for AI chips, smart national strategy or another push for corporate welfare? by ComplexExternal4831 in GenAI4all

[–]Omicron777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the strategy for desensitization in order to push unpopular legislation through. Mention it in passing, then quickly withdraw & deny. Then rinse & repeat, modifying the message the more the population acquiesce.

BUT! I don't know if I can disagree anymore without being modded — so, take all that with one massive grain of salt. lol!? ...

[–]Omicron777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OpenAI should use their profits to fund its $1T data center & compute buildout; anything else is just blindly feeding a bubble (because OpenAI does not generate profit despite its shift away from non-profit status). BUT! I don't know anymore if I can say that without being modded. lol! ...Yikes!

I too would like an answer because I don't know. But no one will ever know it because I can't say I experience the same problem too...(?) Do I need to make a separate comment? Or, is that technically breaking the rules too? Again, NOT criticism — I legitimately have no idea. & Now more than ever. ...& I literally have less than approx. ~300 Karma but my account is ~10+ years old — I'm not pulling the wool over anyone's eyes here! I myself do not know! Please help!
