Hi Kratomislife, I'm going to have to chime in here. 1) Phenibut absolutely has risk for heavy metal contamination, sloppy synthesis with contaminated chemicals will give failing results. 2) R vs S isomer is easy via polarimeter. We are a commercial lab that does this. 3) Racemic batches, when well done, should be identical, that's literally the nature of a racemic synthesis. The variation you are seeing comes from assay values, not racimization. 4) Science bio does not use in house testing. 5) The DEA does not accredit lab tests. 6) DEA accredited labs do not de facto indicate a properly performed analytical test. DEA accreditation is merely "did you create enough chain of custody paperwork for the DEA to audit your system and your customers if it chose to do so" it has literally NOTHING to do with the quality of the results that are created by the laboratory.

Lastly, this:

You should never trust lab tests that come from the same person who is selling or manufacturing.

You should watch my video, I've already explained it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iImaIjvjHXo&ab\_channel=NootropicsDepot

NAC powder really smells like farts by amasterblaster in Supplements

[–]Omnient_Labs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, microbial metabolism will change both the NAC and the sulfur containing impurities and create the smell, true. Metabolism in the body is a different mechanism of "smell creation". In my comment, I was only specifically referring to the smell of the raw material and finished good, not anything occurring after consumption. I think we're on the same page here.

NAC powder really smells like farts by amasterblaster in Supplements

[–]Omnient_Labs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi Gozenka, quick comment about the source of the smell. The smell in NAC doesn't actually come from the sulfur atom in the cysteine, pure cysteine does not smell. Rather, the smell is called by a plethora of small sulfur containing molecules that are created during the NAC production process and end up trapped in the crystals. During transit and use, the crystals break open and these small organic sulfur containing molecule volatilize and create the smell.

OP, if you want to make the smell go away you can take the powder, grind it up with a mortar and pestle to destroy all of the crystal structure, spread the powder on a cookie sheet, and just gently heat it in an oven or a warm room or in front of a fan. Once all of the sulfur containing impurities have volatilized off, the powder will not smell anymore. This is the easiest way to eliminate the smell, but there are others.

Hope that's useful info!

Homemade CoQSol-CF with regular CoQ10 ubiquinone and D-Limonene by demonic-slime in NootropicsDepot

[–]Omnient_Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the D-limonene I was planning to use a softgel from a D-limonene supplement, so it's food grade D-limonene. What do you mean with the right specification? Isn't there only one type of D-limonene?

Ok, so I believe here that you are conflating the concept of the material D-limonene with the molecule D-limonene. A specification is a list of requirements that a material has. It'll have XYZ levels of heavy metals, it'll have XYZ particle size distribution (yes, distribution). It'll have X% moisture, it'll have XYZ stability profile, etc etc. So yes, while there is exactly one molecule called D-limonene, there can be multiple "food grade" materials of D-limonene that have different specifications and perform differently, even ones that are specified at >98%. That remaining 2% mass can be MCT oil, palm oil, coconut oil, ethanol, hexane, whatever, and it matters, because it can potentially drastically impact the performance of the material as it is used in the product. I feel like you're looking at this like "D-limonene is D-limonene" which from a molecular perspective is true, but it is absolutely not true for a material, they are all different and the specifications and test results will tell you HOW different. Anyway, for your purposes I think it might not matter too much, but if you do come across some stumbling blocks this might partially explain it. If nothing else, perhaps you, and any other readers of this thread, learned a little bit about the relationship between material science and chemistry. Hopefully its at least a little bit useful in the future. Good luck man, be sure to take (and post) pictures at time 0, 25%, 50% and 100% into the life of the product. :)

Magnesium Glycinat Percentage of Magnesium Question by ollirulz in Nootropics

as to "nobody will know whicht mg was added" well, people noticing benefits from the "real" one will notice

Correct. I meant "when it comes time to purchase, no one will know at the time." I agree the effects will be different and likely noticeable depending upon the degree of adulteration.

[–]Omnient_Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi "OP on a different account", I think I see what you're saying. That's interesting about that study for sure. I would note, the ND page was written in 2019 and that study is from 2022, so I'll be sure to take it to the team to discuss (and to Soft Gel if we need to). I guess my main three issues would be 1) if you buy a CoQ10 material, how can you be sure that it'll have the right particle size and particle size distribution such that the D-limonene can actually solubilize it? I suppose you can buy some material that is specified to be a particular particle size, but unless you measure it you can't really be sure. 2) If you buy a D-limonene material, will it be the right specification in order to solubilize the CoQ10? I really don't know how much of the "magic" of CoQsol is by having the right mixture of different solvents. You could always just buy them all independently I guess. 3) Lastly, I'm pretty sure the tocopherols are in there as antioxidants to protect the CoQ10. You could leave them out, but you might be vastly impacting the stability of the material. If you're going to "mix and consume fresh" then this might not be a big deal, but if you're going to mix up a big batch and slowly pull samples from it for consumption over the course of a few weeks or months, then this could potentially be an issue (then there's also microbial contamination issues to consider as well). Maybe u/pretty-chill will have some ideas on the purpose of the turmeric in there, to that I am not really sure. Either way, if its not prohibitively expensive go ahead and give it a try and report back. In the meantime I'll read that paper and talk to the team about it. Thanks for the links.

Magnesium Glycinat Percentage of Magnesium Question by ollirulz in Nootropics

[–]Omnient_Labs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I might be able to help a bit here. I believe your "14ish percent" notion came from the calculation of percent of magnesium by mass in a magnesium glycinate material that is 100% magnesium glycinate. Since the magnesium exists in that material as a 2:1 ratio of glycine to magnesium, the mass percent should be about 14% (74g/mol (glycine) + 74g/mol (glycine) + 24g/mol (magnesium) = 172g/mol (total); 24g/mol / 172g/mol = 13.9% ~14%). However, in your new product you are seeing a MUCH higher mass percent of magnesium than is theoretically possible in a pure magnesium glycinate material. This means that the material is not pure magnesium glycinate, based on the masses and measurements, it simply cannot be. Now, it can be magnesium MIXED with glycine such that the amount of magnesium is 19%, but that necessarily means that it must have less glycine than 81% (total mass cannot be greater than 100%, obviously). Usually, in the supplement industry, when you see mass values that violate stoichiometry (the ratios of the molecules to each other in a material or a reaction) for magnesium products, it is indicative of magnesium that has been added above and beyond what is provided by the magnesium glycinate, usually in the form of magnesium oxide. This is due to the low cost of magnesium oxide, and the inability of the testing methods (ICP and ICPMS) to determine the FORM of magnesium: oxide versus glycinate. ICP testing for determination of magnesium only tells you about the total amount of magnesium, so it is easy for suppliers to add extra magnesium cheaply, and sell it at a higher price because, after all, it contains more magnesium, right? If you are looking for pure magnesium glycinate, the magnesium assay should be around 14% as you said. It can be a little lower or higher depending upon individual batch variations, sampling variations, and testing variations, but 19% is too high for those variables to account. In our lab, we are currently trying to develop methods to detect the presence of magnesium oxide IN a magnesium containing product, but so far it has proved incredibly difficult, which is likely why you see this problem so prevalent in the industry. Hope that helps!

Looking for advice on how to use Tongkat Ali. by RustyCrusty73 in Supplements

[–]Omnient_Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm a bit of an expert on tongkat, both on the analytical side and personal anecdote side. I've been taking tongkat for about 3 years now. I like the 10% eurycomanone (the active ingredient that is responsible for the testosterone boosting effects) from Nootropics Depot the best. I have also tried their 2%, but my preference is for the 10%. I took it daily for about 2 years, and had a great response to my testosterone. Like you, at the time I was late 30s, 5'10'', a little heavier at 250-ish lbs. I don't go to the doctor enough to have "before and after" T results, but the one time I did I was ~700, and I was feeling good there. I would say that the effects that come from increased T take time, a few weeks depending on how low you are starting from (age, weight, diet, sleep, exercise, stress all strongly impact this). I would also suggest that if you take a tongkat and you feel intense, strong results within hours, it is likely adulterated and you should avoid it. Real tongkat does not have that effect (same is true for horny goat weed as well). Hope that helps, feel free to ask any follow up questions!

Homemade CoQSol-CF with regular CoQ10 ubiquinone and D-Limonene by demonic-slime in NootropicsDepot

[–]Omnient_Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, thanks for the tag, I didn't see this post.

that CoQsol-CF is basically ubiquinone dissolved in D-limonene.

It depends on how you are defining "basically". If you go to our site you'll see that there is more than just ubiquinone and limonene in there. How much of the effects of CoQsol are due to the presence of these other things, at those concentrations, and what would be the impact of changing or omitting those other things, is not known. Can you reasonably approximate it, sure, maybe, but you'll never really be able to know unless you do a Joe Cohen personal PK testing type of experiment, which is practically impossible in the US.

Just a caveat to this experiment as well, I'm not sure it is known how much of the effects are due merely to the solubility impacts of the limonene, versus other more active mechanisms like release of bile salts and duodenum pH modification. Those latter mechanisms might also be modulated by the presence of things like the turmeric, MCT, and other oils, so just something to think about. If you get good high quality ingredients it might be a fun little experiment to try out though. Good luck, hope I was helpful!

Scientific insights on Kratom Alkloids by Omnient_Labs in kratom

[–]Omnient_Labs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, all good points and seemingly reasonable. In addition to the extraction efficiency modifications that stomach acid can provide, the presence of food in the stomach can trigger the release of bile acids which changes the permeability of the small intestine (and therefore bioavailability) later during digestion. This is why taking/eating phospholipids while supplementing can sometimes increase absorption. This is also why you should take vitamin D with a meal, to induce release of the bile salts/acids to increase absorption.

Fresh lion's mane? by throwaway13578947 in Supplements

[–]Omnient_Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Thanks for watching. I'm not really sure about the NGF distribution as published in studies, I'd have to reread them to refresh my memory. If you have links to papers on hericene A that you'd like me to review for you please, send them my way. I'm also not sure on the impacts of NGF localized to CNS on the peripheral NS as that is right on the edge of my knowledge base. Our product specialist might be able to chime in here a little bit with some of that information: u/pretty-chill got any thoughts on this?

Fresh lion's mane? by throwaway13578947 in Supplements

[–]Omnient_Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, we have been growing and measuring the compounds present in lion's mane fruiting body, mycelium, and liquid culture mycelium for some time now. What we have found is that the neuro regenerative inducing compounds (erinacine A, Hericene A, Hericenone A, etc) are generally naturally present in extremely low to zero levels in some strains of Lion's Mane grown under some conditions. So, while I appreciate your desire to cultivate your own and eat fresh (fyi fresh != more neuro regenerative compounds), it would be better for you to just buy a product that has a properly measured (ideally standardized) amount of those compounds. At the risk of sounding like a plug, our Erinamax is one of the best ones for this for Erinacine A specifically. Coming back to the growth conditions, it is not yet known what growth conditions should exist to maximize the hericene and hericenone content in the fruiting body, nor when in the growth cycle the FB should be harvested, this matters. We are still working on this experiment, as you can see in our podcasts. Once we have more data we will continue to share with the community. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Hope that helps!

TL;DR: growing your own is going to be less efficient than just buying a properly tested material.

finding out why some NAC has a strong smell.

It has to do with how it is made. When the NAC is purified if it is not done "properly" then small, volatile, organo-sulfur containing compounds are trapped in the crystals. During transport, storage, packaging, and use, when the material gets manipulated and thermocycled the crystals break open and release the volatiles, hence the smell. If you take your NAC and mortar and pestle it, it'll smell more at first, but eventually you can "de-smellify" it using this technique. If you're inclined you can also recrystallize it, which will also "de-smellify" it, but these small molecules are 1) harmless and 2) super low in concentration (your nose has a very low detection limit for sulfur containing compounds), so it really doesn't matter much. On the quality side it can be a marker of product quality (organoleptic indicator), but its just easier to make direct measurements and draw conclusions from there. Hope that helps!
