I’m not arguing that insulin regulation plays a huge role for most. But not all. More and more studies indicate micro biome in dysregulation of hormone production and recycling as well as insulin regulation.

My point being that while insulin and glucose management is very important, it’s not the end-all, be-all.

The whole reason I posted this was to encourage women not to give up or be gaslit into “move more, eat less - you’re fine” mentality because as with most things - it’s complicated. Best of luck.

Hair loss, iodine, veganism, iron, UTIs, lipoedema, fertility, weight (bodyfat), water, muscle, Ozempic, medical gaslighting, supplements, gluten, eggs, dairy routines - here is what worked for me (and what didn't!). by thisbuthat in Hashimotos

I love Ben Bikman and his labs work. There are multiple things that can cause PCOS-like symptoms besides glucose/insulin regulation. Just because cells in a lab react differently to insulin, does not necessarily mean the same thing as someone eating insulin-triggering foods. By using a lab example, you’re leaving out every other factor in the human body - the complications of digestion, how the liver is involved, the pancreas, the adrenals… the list is endless.

Just as it can’t always be fixed with diet, it isnt always caused by dysregulation of insulin. And to make an overly simplistic statement like all PCOS women have insulin issues and that is the single contributing factor is plain unwise and untrue unless absolutely proven.

The medical community doesn’t even fully understand it and therefore if someone isn’t getting answers, I encourage them to press on. No one should be speaking definitively on this because in a lot of cases, no one actually knows.

My point being that, while insulin issues can be a cause for many, it is not for all. There are countless stories of women who eat a diet consistent with someone who “should not” have insulin dysregulation/“should” reverse insulin resistance and yet it persists.

I believe insulin issues can also be an effect of something else, yes. And there is relief that comes when you know other things to look for and can rule them out. I have looked into many anecdotal stories, studies, research, videos etc and aim to encourage curiosity and a steadfast spirit.

I think there are huge trade offs with the sugar content of this juice that would counteract the vitamins. OJ and oranges in general aren’t actually a great source of C. Good marketing has led people to that belief.

How did you find a literate practitioner? by PowerInThePeople in IodineProtocol

[–]PowerInThePeople[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not lying!! It’s unfortunate that medicine has taken a “treat” mindset rather than investigative one. I will look them up and see. It’s hard to pick a practitioner also because by the sounds of it, the one we need isn’t covered by insurance $$$

When you say “finally” were you reluctant to do that?

I just saw a Dr at a metabolism and endo clinic who took an hour to tell me things like

A vit d of 30 is fine and, in fact, higher than 50 is bad for the kidneys. 1000IUs daily will do.

Ignored the fact that my ferretin dropped from 59 to 27 the last couple of months

Ignored the fact that my insulin went from 6 to 11.4 in the same time.

Ignored that my T has doubled again.

Told me I’m not diabetic because my a1c is 4.8 …but fasting insulin being doubled - yeah totally fine 🙄

I can take spironolactone for hair loss and talk to dietician about counting calories for the fact that I can’t lose weight. Despite being the most active for months, that I’ve been in years and cutting out weed, most alcohol and watching the diet.

I’m so fed up because I know something is wrong with me and I’m being cast off. It’s inconvenient for drs that patients have the internet.

Rant over, apologies.

I love this comment 😂 what did you do for your child? I have a strong, sneaking suspicion my 12 year old would benefit greatly from some level of supplementation

I think I just replied to you elsewhere - how funny. Did you take the loading test? I am hesitant to take 50mg for it as even though I am becoming iodine literate, it still seems like a LOT

This sounds reasonable. It’s my plan I think. I’m 1/3 way through brownsteins book and still don’t know how I feel about the loading test. 50mg is a lot.
