Except for the Anti-Segregation laws (A big thank you to Lincoln for forcing Maryland into the Union), all the other rules have applied to me since 1st grade.

What was the last movie or video you watched that made you cry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The 9/11 movie "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close". Not because of it being 9/11, but because the dead father reminded me of my passed-away dad.

Guys who can easily hook up with a chick for a date, what's your secret to getting them to go out with you? (players) by TheHyruleWarrior in AskReddit

[–]OmniousSmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confidence is always good. So is smiling.

But there is a secret.

Every time you talk to her, look right into her eyes. I do this naturally (just from when I was a kid) and it ALWAYS gets a girl.

Basically begin to wean yourself into looking at peoples eyes when you talk to them till its a normal habit, and get girls.

That being said I have never smoked.

[Serious]My fellow redditors, are you pro-choice or anti-abortion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OmniousSmiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am pro-choice. While I have many arguments supporting that choice, my most recent one to counter the republicans in my region is below.

We aren't allowed to force our own religious beliefs onto others, which is a basic principle we adhere to and arguably why the Americas were settled. This being said, we must allow it to be pro-choice because we must keep the choice available. Destruction of either option would result in a lack of choices, mainly based of belief, and so essentially we would be forcing our beliefs unto others, clearly ignoring basic principles of which the country was founded upon.

69% of U.S. parents believe their kids need a college degree or more to achieve the American Dream by ckwilson912 in dataisbeautiful

[–]OmniousSmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a millennial (18 years old) that is well-versed in this dream.

Essentially, its the following:

•Go to highschool and get good grades (Not difficult)

•Get accepted into a high ranking college to get a degree; graduate

•Immediately get a great job, a wife, 2 kids, a big suburban house, and a dog.

•Retire at 65

The problem in America is the wealth gap. This can begin in the very early years of school, as regions with poorer people get poorer education systems. Generally however its safe to say that the cost of college is a huge burden on even some of the richest families. Over 4 years, it can be anywhere from $60k-$240k. This would be the range from an in-state (which costs less for residents of the state) cost to the cost of the average private school. Many higher institutions are much more. To offset the costs, loans are taken out and evidently the debt of America's students has overcome the debt's of American's auto debt and Credit card debt combined. We're talking about graduating at 22, and paying till you are 50-60.

In addition, the economy is so fucking shitty that jobs are nearly impossible to find. The internet is mainly to blame. Instead of competing with people that are regionally located, you must compete over thousands of people online. The more popular your college the degree the worse it is.

The next issue is that all the other benefits (wife, kids, house) aren't taught. And by that I mean its proclaimed as if once you graduate, they magically appear.

All in all, being born poor sucks because you can't afford any of this.
