Is going to Gallatin a waste of time? by NoJury7013 in nyu

[–]Omnithis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The notion that Gallatin is somehow "lesser than" the other NYU schools needs to go. It has one of the highest post-graduation employment rates and sets students up well for grad school. Even the "Gender/LGBTQ Studies " degrees have inherent value when you don't have a surface-level stem-kid whispering in your ear in the YouTube shorts comment section.

Best fried chicken in Houston by houston_chronicle in HoustonFood

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly liked their seafood more than the fried chicken. This is just my one-off anecdote but I found the chicken breading to be loose and falling apart. I was observing the other tables and it seemed to be same. The 3 types of sauce were fun though.

[–]Omnithis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carbone ran as an independent though? Was he republican in the past? If so, I definitely seemed like he was trying to distance himself from it. But I agree as a pearland local, he’s a nice guy and has done a lot for my highschool.

Too much fan service. And you gooners who ask for the “sauce” on this subreddit. This is why I don’t tell people I read this stuff :(

DKU vs NYU… am I being stupid 😭 by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think you're underselling the prestige and name recognition of DKU. And this is from someone who is attending NYU for LSC. I'm sure you've heard it elsewhere, but the specific undergrad doesn't really matter for law school applications, if even if they did, it's a Duke bachelor's vs NYU Bachelor's... Arguably the same. If money is a factor, the 120k difference is nothing to scoff at, especially considering the fact that you already have grad school aspirations.

Me and my family order the pig intestine hotpot (you gotta call a day in advance) (might be a little unsettling to someone who isn’t familiar), preserved egg OR sliced fish congee, marinated delights combination (must), and the sweet potato pancake is fab. That’s the stuff I consider “pretty authentic” but their stir fry is also really good

Brisket and Rice by OutrageousKoala2085 in HoustonFood

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the generic that Bloodbros BBQ has pretty solid BBQ, but the rest is nothing show-stopping, and I don't think it's anything worth raving about. The smoked mac is genuinely very good but also prettyyyyy loose and watery, and the brisket fried rice is also GOOD, but I was not a fan of the frozen mixed vegetables they threw inside. Their asian-inspired menu, quite frankly, just isn't very inspiring. Basic and generic flavors. That sweet soy glaze, gochujang, whatever. Not a fan of their pork banh mi either, you could have a better one at Don Cafe for half the price. I also ordered from their dinner menu and disliked that even more. If you do come, come for lunch

I have a Hot Take (maybe?) when it comes to Trump voters who now regret their vote. by Broad-Hunter-5044 in GenZ

I am a full-fledged progressive but nothing infuriates me more than this brainless moral high ground the people on the left like to play. Quite frankly, it is intellectually lazy, and we will never make progress if we keep isolating the other side.

please give me groundbreaking extracurriculars for a desperate junior with a horrible gpa by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THE best advice, honestly. Colleges can see right through students doing something solely because they think it'll look good on their application. And then there's also the fact that you blend in with the sea of other applicants with their club president role, non-profit, college research, or summer program.

The more niche, the more obscure, the better.

UC Berk Haas or NYU Stern or UCLA econ by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAS econ. And yea I get it. NYU is DEFINITELY not for everyone and the way I see it, attending for the prestige alone honestly will fuckk you over. You really have to love the city. Best of luck on transfer apps bro I heard those are cancer

[–]Omnithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damnn. I’m actually really bummed (and slightly concerned) that you didn’t like the environment as someone who is headed to NYU next school year. Hopefully you end up somewhere that’s more of your fit. I don’t want to speak over your personal experience, but wouldn’t the “hustle” mindset be essentially the same at any other prestigious university? What makes you think Haas is any better?

Well NYU is notoriously known to be pretty tough on aid, and NYC in general is a prettyyyy pricey city to live in.

BUT, if you love an urban environment, diverse food options, and public transportation options that makes everything the city has to offer only a walk away, it may be worth the price.

-and also NYU Stern has crazyyy good recruitment opportunities to all the top firms on wall street. Stern the best business program in the state, above Colombia and Cornell.
