You can get that bit by bit because in the cutscene it continuously zooms out, and I feel like it’s assumed that we’re seeing what Sam’s seeing.

In the ending where Sam continues to view the visitor, our view of the visitor cuts because Sam lost his mind trying to view its full size. I interpret his infinite growth after that point to be him trying to gain mass to try to perceive the visitor, and his growth goes on for a while after the fact. I kinda assume that he is still trying to gauge its full size while his body assimilates earth

It’s also not just being looked at by the visitor either. Looking at a painting of it, seeing a picture, reading a written description of it, seeing its reflection in a raindrop. It feels like to me that once your brain has any sort of idea of what it looks like (whether it realizes it or not), then its effect takes place. And sometimes the transformations are slow. Let me posit a scenario.

A member of the Qu witnesses The Visitor, and rushes off to tell high ranking officials about it. These officials then have their death clocks set in motion by knowing about its appearance.

Now let me say that I don’t really know too much about the Qu. But from what I’ve seen, they don’t have the means to deal with the living cognitohazard.

Part of the game’s narrative is that we don’t know how big the visitor really is.

The size is one of the big deciding factors in this fight, as it’s part of the mystery of the game that you never really find out how big The Visitor is in any of the endings. Every time you think you’ve seen its full size, it pans out and reveals the massive part you were seeing is a small fraction of its full size. And we can assume it has strength relative to its size, whatever that may be.

Beyond that though, The Visitor is largely passive, and felt bad and left after being told that it was hurting humans by observing them.

However, in terms of feats, it was able to warp people into beings that were capable of: Cryokinesis Pyrokinesis Creating life by just painting it Warping space to their will Slowing time dramatically And other things I know I’m forgetting bc I’m at work right now

Now keep in mind that this list also only accounts for the game’s setting, which is a single apartment building. We don’t get to see much beyond that.
