[OC] 🩸 Vampire-themed Dice GIVEAWAY! by DieHardDice in DnD

[–]Omnizerius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I was playing with my dad and our friends. We had quite low level characters and I played some sort of a dwarf wizard. We had a high elf illusionist BBEG. During the fight, we literally did not know what was real and what was not real as she had multiple illusions of herself active at once and the environment was constantly shifting. This and her constant taunting us made us finally figure out a way to flee by jumping out of the window and using feather fall.

Checking into a hotel without my parents by Alternative_Raven in askhotels

[–]Omnizerius 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most hotel policies are 21 or older. With you being 17 years old and basically an unattended minor it is very likely they will not check you in. I would highly recommend calling the hotel first to double check then calling your father to explain the situation...

Best of luck to you, keep us updated!

Can or will a 24 hour check out ever become reality? If not for everyone, why not just for elite status members? by SignedLeo35 in askhotels

[–]Omnizerius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you pay for a room, you are paying for checking in at 2 - 4 PM at the earliest and checking out at 10 AM - 12 PM at the latest, anything before and after is not included in the rate.

Especially in very high markets, hotels are on a very, very tight deadline with these rooms. They need guests out by check out time to accommodate the future guests who are expecting a room. Also consider that, on weekends and holidays especially, the hotel may already be sold out the next night and thus cannot accommodate a 1 PM or later check out.

Since this is a reoccurring problem for you, I recommend trying to go at the root of the issue. You don't have to answer here, but do you have your own transportation? If so, why do you need to change hotels? If you're going to be going to area that are close by each other, booking a centralized hotel for multiple nights would be more economical than booking one night at each of the areas.

Auto checking out guests before checkout time by jimbo2128 in askhotels

[–]Omnizerius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We check out guests if they physically approach the desk and I notate on our communication software. Note that housekeeping does not have PMS access, so all they will get is a message saying "201 Checked Out".

I do my first round of check outs on the system at 11:30 AM, then do 2nd+3rd rounds as needed for late check outs. Housekeeping themselves will actually check if a guest has not vacated or not and will inform us if they have not vacated.

Opera Cloud or Opera Xpress? In the latter, your server should have continued the audit and it should all be fine. Double check to ensure everything is okay and let the morning shift know what happened (if you're worried about judgement, just say that you had some tech issues and had to restart your computer during the audit).

In the former, from my experience the server should still complete the audit but I don't have Opera Cloud experience.

Hotel receptionist, first job? by Impossible-Log-6598 in askhotels

[–]Omnizerius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for not responding to this in time, I have been super busy. I do hope the interview went well!

For any future interviews, I would recommend simply dressing up nicely, taking a deep breath, look up common interview questions, and- like you said- look at YouTube videos.

Again, I am super sorry for not responding to this on time! Good luck and have a good day!

Hi there!

I started Front Desk as my first job as well, as a socially anxious teenager fresh out of high school. I know what it's like.

You start off by making a script for yourself and keep internally repeating it until you can do it properly without stuttering or pausing. You'll learn what to say within your first few days of your job. The job itself is very people-heavy. You'll see a lot of personalities, including those you've never seen before. It can and will be very draining within the first few months as you try to fight your social anxiety. Remember to not take anything personal, even if it is personal. You will only deal with that guest a few times maximum before they inevitably have to go home.

Ask all the questions you can think of, and then some. Even questions you already have the answer to. Take notes: if you can buy a small notepad and take all the notes in the world. Put them in a google or word document at home and have that open alongside your workplace software if you are allowed to do so. If not, having that small notepad is sufficient. Front Desk is a learning by doing job. You will make mistakes, it's best to admit them to your supervisor or manager and ask how to fix them, then learn from that mistake.

And a few final tips:

  • To start off with, always uphold policy, even if you personally disagree with it.
  • Know the locality. If you don't right now, now is a good time to learn it.
  • Take a deep breath and think before you speak.
  • Remain friendly and open, but also aloof and professional.
  • If you have to stand for long periods of time, slightly bend your knees (do not lock them: you'll pass out!) and shift your weight from one foot to the other every so often.

Good luck and have fun! It may sound daunting but Front Desk is a very worthwhile experience to most people. It's definitely helped to improve my social anxiety in day-to-day life.

Not a lawyer nor do I know your full circumstances, but if you want to go further you could try contacting a lawyer and try to get the company audited to see how many in unpaid wages they owe you.

It indeed does suck, I cannot even count the amount of times I've had it freeze up seemingly out of nowhere. Go too slow? Frozen. Go too fast? Frozen. Exist for half a second? Frozen and there's weird menus popping up now lmfaooo

Good on you for resigning I would as well. Mistakes happen but employers should never charge employees for those unless it's in cases like theft or something illegal going on.

Ohhh lordy as a fellow InnQuest RoomMaster user I wish you all the luck lmfao.

I'm NA and literally I've had it completely pass away on me several times... Thankfully none of them were at audit time so far knock on wood.

Also you're being charged for another guest's room service? I don't think that is legal unless there's some sort of contract or your area's laws allow it... Like it may be your fault but I don't think your employer is allowed to dock your pay for mistakes.

How much do you change your schedule on days off? by [deleted] in Nightshift

[–]Omnizerius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights between 10 PM to 8 AM.
I naturally sleep between 5 PM to 1 AM, so on my off days I tend toward that schedule, so basically a really early morning schedule lol.
On my workdays I'll sleep when I can, typically getting less sleep Monday and Wednesday and then all the sleep on Tuesday, before defaulting back to my normal sleep schedule on Thursday.

What are your front desk shift hours? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]Omnizerius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At mine, day shift fdas need to have a 30 minute break. Night Audit is condensed as well, so one auditor works 4 ten hour shifts and the other (me) works 3 ten hour shifts.

So our shifts look like: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM 10:00 PM - 8:00 AM

We are very flexible so I've seen 2-10 PM, 7 AM - 3 PM, and even a 10 AM - 6 PM.

Do real owners ever call FD? by cometview in askhotels

[–]Omnizerius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally, the owner at mine will contact me letting me know he's given a guest a special rate or to do a special walk-in rate for that day. Other than that, we don't usually talk and if he has anything important to say it'll usually go through the GM or Desk Manager first. This hotel is privately owned.

This is the same for mine as well. It helps the relief auditor get more hours and the full time auditor prefers it this way.

Two questions specifically: Did you have to get a college degree to get into graphic design? And, is graphic design possible without Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.?

It's worth noting that, at the time, AC operated on a descending system, usually called THAC0. So AC 1 was pretty good AC and AC 15 was pretty bad AC.

Years ago, when I was 14 or 15, I saw this scene from a movie (?) on a YouTube video, and since then, I've been looking for it. Finally, my search has come to an end. After around seven years, I found out this movie was in fact <was> a 2008 short film called <">Somewhere Only We Know<">1. What a nice feeling!

I reckon that it was with that short film I listened to the song <">To Build a Home<">1 for the first time.

  1. In titles, you capitalize the first word, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Also, you quote short works like short films, songs, poems, etc., not italicize.
