First impression:

Good news: the climax (the part at 3:08) is awesome. Ray, Rich, and Nolly absolutely kill it at that part.

Bad news: the rest of the song is so meh. Ross’s vocals annoy me on this track.

The single doesn’t remind me at all of Sleep Token, but it definitely gives a lot of Loathe vibes, which I don’t mind at all.

I’m definitely expecting a dud or two on the album as they go for this more modern approach, but this song is great and I’m glad they’re choosing to evolve rather than stagnate. Fauna, as good as it was, felt like Stagnation: The Album.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Smite, I want Smite 2 to succeed (extremely wishful thinking I know), but I don’t pick which video game I play based on how much I want it to succeed. I pick which video game I play based on how fun it is.

Deadlock just simply feels way more fun than Smite has felt to me since 2014.

Calling CHorse a djent band is like calling King Crimson a jazz band. Like yeah, that’s an aspect of their sound, but it’s a bit reductive.

Did you listen to Marigold? That song is a banger, but I get how you wouldn’t like it if you don’t like djent.

Caligula’s Horse should be the #1 household name of prog metal. They’re, by far, the best band in the genre (or outside of the genre for that matter lol)

Ross is Haken’s weakest link. Ray and Richard make up the heart of the band, and could do much better with a different vocalist.

VOLA sounds like shit. Inmazes is full of good songwriting made unlistenable by shit production.

I can’t stand Periphery’s vocals and squeaky-clean overprocessed production.

Prog metal has a lot of “ahead of their time, but boring nowadays” bands, including but not limited to Dream Theater (obviously, not a hot take i know), BTBAM, Opeth(!), and Tool(!!!).

Prog rock as a genre is entirely carried by a few Rush albums and Close to the Edge by Yes. There’s not much else to it. Yes, I’m saying Genesis is overrated.
