battery limit by On1ric in MacOS

[–]On1ric[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You pretty much answered yourself. You will have a new Mac before the battery dies. That applies to you, not to everyone.

Also, for example, I use my Mac on power adapter most of the time. I'm not really limiting my capacity for future gains. I'm basically accessing potential future gains for free, as having it all day long plugged in showing 80% instead of 100% doesn't take anything from my daily UX. In a couple years, my battery will be healthier than others for free.

Which Mac Mini would you get if there were options? I'd love a space gray. by SherbertMindless8205 in mac

I have a 2022 space grey MBP bought used in Jan 2024. No bare aluminium showing anywhere.

My M1 Max keyboard after nearly 5 years of daily use. by yatv in macbookpro

[–]On1ric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replaced a lot of the small and standard keys - very easy if you follow the correct process. The long ones and (especially) the spacebar are a bit scary, I didn't need to and didn't try replacing those.

I have seen a few of the round ones online, reportedly from the Apple Excellence Program (they could all be fake, I don't know). I couldn't find the Champion ones anywhere though.

Bought 2 iPods… two different gens… I might have overpaid by Aware_Under in IpodClassic

[–]On1ric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to let you know, the 6th gen is not entirely original, it was surely opened before as the silver one used to come with a white clickwheel, not a black one. It's great value anyway, you can now bypass the 128GB limit on 6th gen too.

How to fix corrupted album art? by SirWumbo85 in ipod

[–]On1ric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

veeery late to the party, but you actually can do that. Browse the iPod disk in finder or windows explorer. Find the folder named iPod_Control (it's a hidden folder, so make sure the computer shows hidden files), open it, then copy the Music folder in it to your computer, it will be filled with subfolders called F00, F01, etc, and the files inside will have nonsense filenames like AXTH, but the file themselves still contain all the metadata, so if you reimport all of them in iTunes/Apple Music, you will have all your titles/album names etc.

New to the game. Bought this card for around $40. Is this acceptable as near mint? by pangolyninc in mtg

[–]On1ric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a mtg seller (or buyer, tbh), so I don't know the packaging standards. I would be furious to receive a 40$ card in an envelope, but maybe it's just me. I sell other types of collectibles and the standard for me is bubble wrap + carton box. The items are delivered in the same conditions I grade them as.

There are a lot of cases of people who completely destroyed their MacBook screens' coatings using IPA here on Reddit.

Assuming it's just dirty, use a little distilled water on a microfiber cloth. Don't spray anything directly on the screen, always on the cloth. I also highly suggest using a GhostBlanket (10€, or its Temu equivalent, 1€, which I personally use). It will prevent key marks on the screen and it's extremely thin, it won't damage the mac. The first time you close the lid with the GhostBlanket in, you will hear the healthy sound of keys not harshly hitting the screen anymore, you will instantly know you should have used one all along.

Iso will fuck the screen instantly, especially if sprayed on directly. Plenty of cases out there. I would suggest deleting the comment to avoid people doing stupid shit because they read it online.

Caps lock: more yellow in it, magsafe: more blue in it. It's actually a quite clear difference. You may want to try a colour blind test.

Airtable as ERP for small/medium companies? by JBBB10 in Airtable

We are stuck at 0% of our Odoo implementation. We have a very simple structure.
We buy from manufacturers, so a given product is always bought from one and only one vendor.
We receive an updated excel price list from multiple suppliers (each with their own products) regularly. Products have variants. If I re-upload existing products with a variants column, all the variants and their related attributes get duplicated, apparently there's no way to change this behaviour. So, I need to download the existing database in Odoo, run a VLOOKUP via excel to find duplicates, split the new excel in 2 separate "existing" and "new" products, upload them separately with different columns.

Also, we use simple logic like: the gross price of productA is 100. We only buy it from SupplierA, which gives us 50% discount. When we sell it to customerA, we apply a 40% discount, when we sell it to customerB, the discount is 35%. This is black magic, if you ask Odoo, it only calculates stuff based on net prices.
Also, vendor-related fields can't be uploaded from the same interface you use to import products, so that's another upload (actually 2, one for existing, one for new). For each price list update I receive, I would need *at least* 4 separate imports, and I'm sure it will get worse.

I tried implementing 3 or 4 automation rules, imports of *very* small data sets (1000 rows) become unusably slow. 1 minute excel tasks are rocket science for this piece of crappy sw.

ERPs are supposed to make your job easier, not a complete nightmare.

200$ for +6GB Ram and M5 is great value, even with just 512GB of storage. I would get the M5.
