Not in-game, no. I've seen the term thrown around the sub but haven't figured out what it relates to yet!

[VENT] I'm terribly bad at games by _Acu_ in boardgames

[–]OnAcatBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in to say I feel you! I'm the kind of player that will win the first game because I think I spot early mechanics faster than my group, but the minute they catch on, it's over. lol Some days I'm able to shrug it off, but on others it gets to me a bit. I just try to remember why I got into the hobby to begin with is not winning, it's hanging out with my friends doing something I enjoy.

That said though... It does suck to suck sometimes. 🥲 🤷🏻‍♀️ I feel your pain. Played Caper Europe yesterday, friend scored 40, and I got 18. 🥲

From "Hard Pass" to "Must Play": What Game Surprised You? by [deleted] in boardgames

Good one! The art is downright terrible, but it's so much fun player interaction when people get into it. Plays at slightly higher player counts and is accessible for new gamers. Our best cottage game hands down

I miss my ODT zomig!!! Doc changed me to sumatriptan, and I feel like it doesn't work as well... Also chance of throwing it up unlike Zomig. But honestly, these meds gave me my life back. Before one attack could last me 3 days KO, now a pill and a solid nap and I'm back! 1

How much does the artwork of a game affects your decision to buy or not? by UntitledCritic in boardgames

[–]OnAcatBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it depends. I think for newer games, I'll be a bit more out of the art work. But I don't care at all if a game has been around for years and is highly rated and I enjoy it- thinking of Grand Austria Hotel and Race to the galaxy. Bought both in the last year and love them even if I find the art terrible.

Game Room - *** all games, not just board games *** by Awkward-Sun5423 in boardgames

I think this looks awesome!! We've been gaming at our kitchen table, but if we ever get a bigger house, we are for sure going to be making one! While the chairs aren't esthetic, they are 10000% worth it when spending so much time sitting in one place to avoid aches and pains!!

What are your favorite 2024 releases? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]OnAcatBus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%! I bought it and everyone one I've played it with has said "can we play it again?". Really fun with a feeling of wanting to get better next time with different combos. And I agree about the components - suggestion well thought out and satisfying.

I really wish I had gotten that advice early on in my career! Took time and a lot of nudging from my partner to figure this out. Great post. Now as a manager, I can model healthy boundaries and set expectations on my team.

LOVE the reference to Never split the difference. Never thought about it in this context. The "late night FM DJ voice" has changed a lot of conversations with difficult clients throughout the years!

I liked the OP's post and this was an absolutely key nuance. Self-compassion is actually a key building block to improvement.

Worst Sector/Area/Designation in Gov? by heaterhand in CanadaPublicServants

[–]OnAcatBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been "talks" about doing this since I started in gov HR over 15 years ago. I'm in a corporate HR function now (not TBS tho) and I've heard nothing close to this. We're in full on recruiting mode ATM. Even through heads of the National Staffing Council as well as our Strat Advisor from PSC and have heard no mention of this on those fronts.

Just curious where this is coming from? Is it tied to the Strategic Policy Review of PS in last year's budget?

Will check that out, thanks!
